Not knowing what causes autism, it's basically just disassociation from the world to a greater degree than is ordinary. It's hardly one thing, despite being placed under a common umbrella term, and how it manifests in each individual can vary substantially.
If you met me once, you wouldn't be able to tell, yet if you actually got to know me over time you'd understand that I'm about as far from normal as can be.
