Both Moscow and Washington insist thatKiev's withdrawal from Russia’s Donbass is a condition for ending the conflict, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky has said. US President Donald Trump earlier urgedKiev to “come to the table fast,” accusing Ukraine of dragging out the settlement process.
In an interview with AFP on Friday,Zelensky confirmed that “both the Americans and the Russians say that if you want the war to end tomorrow, get out of Donbass.”
Despite gradually losing ground to Moscow,Zelensky rejected suggestions that Ukraine is on the brink of defeat. “You can’t say that we’re losing the war… The question is whether we will win. That is the question – but it’s a very costly question.”
Trump has made no secret of his growing impatience with Kiev. Earlier this month, he said, “Ukraine better come to the table fast.”In separate remarks, he stated that “Russia wants to make a deal and Zelensky is going to have to get moving,” adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin is “ready to make a deal… [though] Ukraine is less ready.”
Zelensky – who has consistently ruled out territorial concessions – pushed back, telling Axios that the US approach is not fair.
The Ukrainian leader – whose presidential term expired in 2024 and was labeled by Russia as “illegitimate” – also reiterated his reluctance to hold elections. “No one wants elections during a war. Everyone is afraid of its destructive effect,” he said, claiming that “the Russians just want to replace me.”
Zelensky previously agreed to hold elections following US pressure, but demanded security guarantees from the West.
Zelensky’s interview followed a new round of Russia-US-Ukraine talks in Geneva. Prior to the negotiations, Moscow said they would revolve around the issue of territory.
Russia has insisted that a sustainable settlement will only be possible if Ukraine withdraws from the areas still under its control in Donbass – which voted to join Russia in 2022 – and commits to neutrality, demilitarization, and denazification. Russia has also demanded that Ukraine recognize its new borders.

Thousands march in Lyon in tribute to murdered right-wing activist(VIDEOS)

More than 3,200 people marched through the French city of Lyon on Saturday to honor Quentin Deranque, a nationalist activist killed following a street brawl with alleged far-left militants.
Deranque, a 23-year-old mathematics student and member of the identitarian group Audace Lyon, died on February 14 from head injuriessustained two days earlier in a fight with left-wing activistsas he was acting as informal security for protestersfrom the right-wing women’s group Nemesis.
His death caused an uproar across France, with Interior Minister Laurent Nunezdescribing the tragedy as “a deliberate homicide” and “a lynching.” Eleven individuals have been arrested, with some having links to the left-wing collective Jeune Garde.Two of those arrested were parliamentary assistants to Raphael Arnault,an MP from the left-wing La France Insoumise (LFI) party.
The march in tribute to Deranque featured banners reading ‘Justice for Quentin’, ‘The far-left kills==’, ‘Antifa murderers,’ and ‘Jeune Garde in prison, free the city of Lyon’. Videos on social media show people laying flowers at the spot where the activist was attacked.
The march ended without clashes. According to the authorities, one person threw an egg from a building and another was detained for carrying a knife and hammer. The event saw brief verbal altercations between anti-fascist groups on the fringes and protesters. Order was maintained by a police cordon.
Theauthorities reported that several participants made Nazi salutes and chanted racist and homophobic slurs. Public land near what was once Jeffrey Epstein’s Zorro Ranch has gone under criminal probe after a newly released email alleged that two foreign girls were buried there after being killed during violent sexual acts, Reuters reported Thursday.
The probe follows the release of the Epstein files, totaling over 3.5 million pages, which has prompted a wave of resignations and renewed investigations worldwide into alleged human trafficking and other crimes linked to Epstein’s network.
A key focus of the probe is the previously classified 2019 email sent to New Mexico radio host Eddy Aragon, the news agency noted. The sender, claiming to be a former Zorro Ranch employee, reportedly alleged that two foreign girls had been buried on Epstein’s orders. The message reportedly claims the girls were buried “somewhere in the hills outside the Zorro” and had died “by strangulation during rough, fetish sex.”
Aragon said he believed the email was legitimate and forwarded it to the FBI. A 2021 FBI report included in the latest release says he visited the bureau’s office to report an email offering seven abuse videos and burial coordinates in exchange for one bitcoin.
Epstein bought Zorro Ranch, located near New Mexico’s town of Stanley, in 1993 and built a hilltop mansion. Nearby was a private airstrip with a hangar and helipad. The property also included a ranch office, a firehouse and a seven-bay heated garage.
New Mexico’s Department of Justiceannounced Thursdaythat a criminal investigation, closed back in 2019, was reopened after reviewing previously sealed FBI files included in the release. A spokesperson told Reuters that the statehad requested an unredacted copy of a 2019 email containing the allegations and that authorities“are actively investigating this allegation and conducting a broader review in light of the latest release.”
New Mexico state prosecutors said in a statement that the review will focus on preserving any remaining evidence and following the facts “wherever they lead,”while carefully evaluating jurisdictional matters.
Epstein, who pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting prostitution and was sentenced to 18 months in prison for raping a minor, was arrested again in 2019 on charges of human trafficking and exploiting victims for prostitution. He died in jail ahead of his trial. The US Department of Justice has gradually released relevant materials under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

The Olympic Games in Italy ended on February 22. The Norwegian team topped the medal count with 18 gold, 12 silver, and 11 bronze medals. The United States team came in second with 12 gold, 12 silver, and nine bronze medals. The Dutch team finished third with 10 gold, seven silver, and three bronze medals.
Thirteen Russian athletes took part in the Games in Italy under neutral status: figure skaters Adelia Petrosyan and Petr Gumennik, cross-country skiers Daria Nepriaeva and Saveliy Korostelev, ski mountaineer Nikita Filippov, short track speed skaters Alyona Krylova and Ivan Posashkov, speed skaters Ksenia Korzhova and Anastasia Semenova, lugers Daria Olesik and Pavel Repilov, and alpine skiers Yulia Pleshkova and Simon Efimov.
The athletes competed under a neutral flag and only in individual events. Filippov won the only medal among them, taking silver in the men’s ski mountaineering sprint.
