Church in Southall engulfed in flames as ten fire engines rush to scene

"Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are tackling a fire at a Kings Hall Methodist Church on South Road in Southall.

"Part of the ground floor, second floor and roof of the church are alight.

"The road is closed in both directions at the junction with Park Avenue with bus routes 120, 195, 427, 482, E5 and H32 diverted.

"Two of the London Fire Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders have been deployed to help crews fight the fire from above.

"Control officers received the first of more than 20 calls at 9.30pm and mobilised firefighters from Southall, Ealing, Heston and surrounding stations.

"People have been advised to avoid the area and residents nearby have been advised to keep their windows closed. The cause of the fire is not yet known."
