Incredible rate of fire. That has always been my main concern for our troops; fighting drone swarms. We have to think in swarms of 500 per barrage, from a full 180 degrees. Think how China synchronizes drones swarms for shows. Which is done with CNC logic of p-code. This is a perfect solution for a few drones, but against 500 coming in at 180 degrees at various lengths, would not fair as well. Get those 16 inch guns online as support vessels, and use them like a shotgun against the large drone swarms. You do not need bullets either, which can cause collateral damage to vessels operating in the theater, but just enough mass to damage or take down the drone swarms such as sand, salt, or pellets. How much damage is needed to take down these drones is the question?

Those old battleships with the 16 guns are solid steel and could take the brunt of most drone swarms and still keep chugging along. If we put them forward of our cruise missile destroyers, those big guns could probably knock out most large drone swarms with their array of 3 to 6 guns which can reach dozens of miles taking care of a staggered array of drones at various distances all at once. Use their heavy anchors to drop a large siphon to pull sand from the bottom of the ocean as limitless ammo. Just need the right charge to send it flying dozens of miles and any fallout would not harm forward smaller vessels. We can make it happen, as we have some of the best military minds to ever exist!!!

ThankQ, I know about this, and it is promising, but I thought it was still in a testing phase but regardless, we should always have digital and analog systems that are impervious to EMP or hacking. Battleships are just rusting away and could be easily retrofitted somehow to be a forward vessel barrier and those 16 guns can shoot shells, I believe 26 miles, so why not try, it wouldn't cost too much. Russia was the first to take my suggestion of using shotguns against drones which proved to be affective for infantry.

That is truly amazing, and they are just about impossible to sink. No imagine instead of a 1 ton shell being shot 20 miles, we shot sand at a swarm of 500 drones at that speed an velocity in a shotgun spread. We could wipe out most of them within a 20 miles range because some of the battleships had more than 1 16 inch gun but as many as 6. And all we would need is a charge coupled with sand from the ocean floor. It might be something to try or think about because for infantry a shotgun against a drone is better than an automatic rifle or machine gun.
