Heightened cartel and security activity in parts of western Mexico

There are reports circulating this morning that El Mencho, a major cartel leader, was killed. As a result, there has been heightened cartel and security activity in parts of western Mexico, including Puerto Vallarta.

I want to be very clear for friends and family who’ve reached out:

This is not an attack on civilians or tourists.

This activity is strictly between the cartels and authorities - local police, federal police, and now the military.

Yes, there have been vehicles burned (people are being pulled from the vehicles before burning) some gunfire reported, and lockdowns in certain areas as a precaution.

That said, we are safe at our condo stocked up with supplies.

Authorities are actively handling the situation, I’ll share updates if anything changes, for now everyone is okay.
