France summons US ambassador over Trump team’s comments on activist’s death

(Interesting Macron trying to pressure Trump on the BS limiting free speech in EU. He’s supposedly coming to discuss it. Sounds like France is trying to Trump what to do. Weird timing)

Trump appointee Charles Kushner is being summoned after the U.S. State Department weighed in on 23-year-old far-right activist’s killing.

PARIS — U.S. Ambassador Charles Kushner is being summoned by the French government for thesecond time in six months after the Trump administration commented on the death of a young activist that has roiled France.

Far-right activist Quentin Deranque, 23, was killed in Lyon earlier this month on the sidelines of a political conference. The events leading up to the fight that cost Deranque his life remain unclear, but the National Rally has pointed to his killing as proof that the poll-topping populist party is the victim of an increasingly radical political left.

The U.S. State Department weighed in late last week, saying in a post on social media that “violent radical leftism is on the rise and its role in Quentin Deranque’s death demonstrates the threat it poses to public safety.”

“We will continue to monitor the situation and expect to see the perpetrators of violence brought to justice,” it posted on X, which was retweeted by the U.S. embassy in Paris.

The publication angered the French government, which has been trying to contain the political fallout from Deranque’s death and its risks to public safety, weeks ahead of local elections in March.

“We refuse to allow this tragedy to be exploited for political ends,” French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said on radio France Inter on Sunday. “We have no lessons to learn, particularly when it comes to violence, from international reactionary [forces],” he added.

In the same interview,Barrot criticized U.S. sanctions against former EU Commissioner Thierry Bretonand French International Criminal Court judge Nicolas Guillou, calling them unjustified.

Kushner has been summoned to the foreign ministry Monday at 7 p.m. He was also summoned in August after writing in the Wall Street Journalthat France was not doing enough to combat antisemitism.

The Trump-appointed ambassador is being closely watched after receiving National Rally leaders Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella in December, days after the U.S. administration had words of support for “patriotic European parties” in its eyebrow-raising National Security Strategy. Kushner has met with other French political leaders in recent months as well, including presidential candidates Edouard Philippe and Bruno Retailleau.

Binance Employees Find $1.7 Billion in Crypto Was Sent to Iranian Entities

Binance pledged to crack down on crime. But internal investigators at the world’s largest crypto exchange continued to find evidence of potential legal violations on the platform.

A group of internal investigators at the giant cryptocurrency exchange Binance made a series of startling discoveries last year.

People in Iran had gained access to more than 1,500 accounts on the Binance platform over the previous year.About $1.7 billion had flowed from two Binance accounts to Iranian entities with links to terrorist groups, a possible violation of global sanctions. And one of those accounts belonged to a Binance vendor.

After uncovering the transactions, the investigators reported them to top executives, according to company records and other documents reviewed by The New York Times.

Within weeks, Binance fired or suspended at least four employees involved in the investigation, according to the documents and three people with knowledge of the situation. The company cited issues such as “violations of company protocol” related to the handling of client data.

The sequence of events shows that Binance, the world’s largest venue for crypto trading, has continued to find evidence of potential legal violations on its platform, even after it pleaded guilty to breaking anti-money-laundering laws in 2023. At the time, the company pledged to crack down on bad actors who used its platform to move money, and said it had hired more than 60 employees with law enforcement or regulatory experience to address the problem.

==But internal warnings about the Iranian transactions surfaced last year, in the months before President Trump granted a pardon to Binance’s founder, Changpeng Zhao, who had spent four months in federal prison in 2024 for his role in the firm’s crimes. The Trump family’s crypto start-up, World Liberty Financial, has forged close business ties with Binance, and Mr. Zhao was a guest this month at a conference at Mar-a-Lago, Mr. Trump’s club in Palm Beach, Fla.

“Learned a lot,” Mr. Zhao posted on social media on Wednesday, along with a photo from the event.

By analyzing crypto transactions, Binance investigators found that accounts on the exchange had moved funds to entities tied to Iran, a major foreign adversary that the Trump administration has been preparing to strike. When Binance pleaded guilty three years ago, it agreed to pay a $4.3 billion penalty and admitted that it had violated U.S. sanctions, including by allowing customers from Iran to use its platform. It also agreed to alert U.S. authorities to any lawbreaking detected on the exchange.

A Binance representative, Rachel Conlan, said in a statement that the exchange took action to address the issues raised by its investigators. The accounts linked to the $1.7 billion in Iranian transactions were removed, she said, and Binance notified the authorities.

“Any suggestion that Binance knowingly allowed sanctionable activity to continue unchecked is incorrect and defamatory,” Ms. Conlan said.….

Public Storage Moving Headquarters Out of L.A.

The company, which earned $5 billion last year, is moving from Glendale to Frisco, Texas

CHRIS NICHOLS

Public Storage, the world’s largest self-storage company, is leaving its Glendale home of more than 50 years and moving its corporate headquarters to Frisco, Texas. The company operates more than 250 million square feet at 3,500 locations in 40 states.

In-N-Out Burger has plans to split its management between Baldwin Park and Nashville, and the Lone Star state seems to have wooed away SpaceX and John Paul Mitchell hair products, which have also announced plans to leave L.A. Dallas-Fort Worth was recently ranked the fastest growing headquarters market in America, gaining 100 companies between 2018 and 2024, while L.A. lost 106.

Public Storage announced the deal to move into a newly constructed building in the Dallas suburb of Frisco at the same time as a stable of new leaders came on board. When current CEO Joe Russell retires next month, he will be replaced by current CFO Tom Boyle. “The opportunity ahead for Public Storage has never been stronger,” Boyle said in a press release.

“This Company has a proven ability to outperform through cycles, deliver industry-leading margins driven by digital and AI advancement.” We’re going to guess that translates into less humans working for the company.

The parents of Public Storage founder B. Wayne Hughes fled Dust Bowl Oklahoma in the 1930s,settling in El Monte, just east of downtown Los Angeles.

He won a scholarship to USC and was a lifelong supporter of the school, donating some $400 million over his years. Until he died in 2021, the billionaire could still be seen in old jeans, hanging out at fast-food joints. He loved the races at Santa Anita and owned a Kentucky Derby-winning horse named Authentic.

Hughes worked for developers gobbling up undeveloped land at the edge of L.A. for new housing in the 1960s before starting his own investment company. His pal Kenneth Volk spotted a self-storage operation in Texas, and the two realized it was a far easier and cheaper way to build investment properties than commercial development.

(Newsom has fucked CA for decades to come.)
