The Georgia Guidestones themselves are not located near caves, but the surrounding region of northeastern Georgia features several notable cave systems. The closest significant cave attraction is Serpentine Cave, located about 15 miles west of Elberton in the Cumberland Plateau region. This cave is part of a larger network of limestone caves formed by the region’s geology, which includes the Serpentine River and the Serpentine Cave Preserve.

Another notable cave site is Hawkins Cave, located in nearby Bartow County, approximately 45 miles northwest of the Guidestones. It is part of the Cave of the Winds complex, a popular destination for spelunking and guided tours.

Additionally, Walker County, about 60 miles southeast of Elberton, is home to Mammoth Cave, which is part of the Mammoth Cave National Park system and features one of the deepest cave drops in the continental U.S.

While the Guidestones are situated on a high plateau in Elbert County, the area’s geology—characterized by limestone and granite—supports a rich network of underground passages and karst features, making it a region of interest for cave exploration.
