Bondi’s DOJ Still Refusing To Disclose Gov’t Payments To Twitter During Peak Censorship

President Donald Trump’s Justice Department is continuing to conceal details of payments the government made to Twitter amid its push to censor “misinformation” online.

Judge James Boasberg, an Obama appointee, agreed that the Department of Justice (DOJ) can withhold the FBI’s quarterly payments to Twitter for “legal-process requests” between 2016 to 2023 in a Feb. 4 opinion.

The FBI paid Twitter nearly $3.5 million between October 2019 and February 2021, an email in the “Twitter Files” reported by journalist Michael Shellenberger revealed. The exact purpose of the payment, which took place during peak government pressure on platforms to patrol content about COVID-19, remains unclear.

Judicial Watch sued in October 2023 to obtain records of any payments after the FBI “failed to respond adequately” to their initial Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking details about the payments in December 2022.

“These records were created as part of serving subpoenas, warrants, and other requests on Twitter to retrieve information that would help the FBI investigate crimes and national-security threats,” Boasberg wrote in his Feb. 4 opinion. “The investigatory activities that gave rise to the documents were thus related to enforcing federal laws and maintaining national security, and there was a rational relationship between those investigations and the Bureau’s law-enforcement duties.”

While Twitter already releases semi-annual reports showing how many “legal process requests” it received and complied with, making quarterly payments for FBI-specific requests public could add detail that reveals “how, when, and under which circumstances certain techniques are employed by law enforcement and investigative agencies,” Boasberg wrote.

Internal documents released in the Twitter Files revealed in 2023 how government officials flagged posts deemed COVID-19 “misinformation” for the company to take down.

Former General Manager for U.S. Defense Contractor Sentenced to 87 Months for Selling Stolen Trade Secrets to Russian Broker

Peter Williams, 39, an Australian national, was sentenced in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to 87 months in prison for selling his employer’s trade secrets — sensitive and protected cyber-exploit components — to a Russian cyber-tools broker, announced the Department of Justice. In addition to the 87-month prison term, U.S. District Court Judge AliKhan for the District of Columbia ordered Williams to serve three years of supervised release with special conditions, to forfeit a money judgment of $1.3 million, cryptocurrency and property to include a house, and luxury items such as watches and jewelry. The Court also set a restitution hearing for May 12, 2026.

“Williams exploited his senior role at a U.S. defense contractor to enrich himself at the expense of the United States and his employer,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg. “The tools he compromised were intended to protect this Nation; instead, he auctioned them off to a Russian bidder. We are committed to ensuring that those who abuse their access to sensitive information and thereby harm our national security face severe consequences.”

“Peter Williams stole a U.S. defense contractor’s trade secrets about highly sensitive cyber capabilities and sold them to a broker whose clients include the Russian government, putting our national security and countless potential victims at risk,” said Assistant Director Roman Rozhavsky of the FBI’s Counterintelligence and Espionage Division. “The FBI and our partners remain unwavering in our commitment to protecting America’s critical technologies, and we will ensure any who attempt to profit at our nation’s expense face the full weight of the criminal justice system. Let this be a clear warning to all who consider placing greed over country: If you betray your position of trust and sell sensitive American technology to our foreign adversaries, the FBI will not rest until you’re brought to justice.”

“Williams took trade secrets comprised of national security software and sold them for up to $4 million in crypto currency. These incredibly powerful tools would have allowed Russia to access millions of digital devices,” said U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro for the District of Columbia. “By betraying a position of trust and selling sensitive American technology, Williams’ crime is not only one of theft, it is a crime of national security. During Tucker Carlson’s interview last week with Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to Israel, both men made considerable waves with their takes on history and theology.

Huckabee sparked a diplomatic row by citing the Bible to argue that Israel had a divine right to claim all of the Middle East - even though he didn’t back doing so politically.

But Carlson’s own interpretation of Israeli sovereignty was also notable, as the far-right pundit insisted that Israelis should undergo genetic testing to determine if they have a rightful claim to the land.

“Why don’t we do genetic testing on everybody in the land and find out who Abram’s descendants are?” Carlson asked Huckabee at one point, using the name Abraham used before he made a covenant with God to become the first Jew. “It’s really simple. We’ve cracked the human genome. We can do that. Why don’t we do that?”

At another point, Carlson singled out Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu specifically as an illegitimate Israeli.

“What you’re saying is that certain people have a title to a highly contested region. They own it, in some deep sense,” he told Huckabee. “So I think it’s fair to ask, who are they, and how do we know? So the current prime minister’s ancestors weren’t from here within recorded history. He has no deed. Bibi Netanyahu, on one side, his family’s from Poland, they’re from Eastern Europe. So how do we know he has a connection to the people who God promised the land to?”

The line of questioning made little sense to many Jewish listeners, who understand Judaism as a blend of religion, ethnicity, and community in which converts have always been accepted. For Jewish listeners, too, the idea of tracing bloodlines is often associated with the Nazis, who chose their victims based on how many Jewish ancestors they had.

But both Carlson’s critics and supporters across the ideological spectrum who have agreed with his views on Israel understood what he was getting at. An inventory of the contents was reportedly emailed to Epstein and his lawyers in August 2009, just one month after he was released from jail following his 2008 conviction for child sex crimes.

Even more troubling is that some computer-related material “appeared to be missing,” including equipment that may have been connected to surveillance cameras.

Surveillance and Blackmail Questions

The missing hardware has fueled long-running suspicions that Epstein may have secretly recorded encounters inside his homes, potentially for blackmail.

Adding to the intrigue, emails reportedly reference a Logitech cloud server containing camera recordings from Epstein’s island, data that allegedly could not be physically destroyed.

The technician responsible for installing recording equipment on Epstein’s private island in 2014, Jermaine Ruan, was later named as a $1 million beneficiary in Epstein’s trust.

Ruan handled cameras and networking systems at Epstein’s property known as “LSJ” (Little Saint James) and later transitioned the island’s systems to Ubiquiti equipment beginning in late 2017.

He now works for the U.S. Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections.

The Investigation Washington Never Told You About

A 2015 DEA memo – surfaced this week in the Justice Department's Epstein files release – shows federal drug agents opened a case on December 17, 2010 in New York targeting Epstein and 14 other individuals whose names remain blacked out.

The file is 69 pages long, stamped "law enforcement sensitive," and still heavily redacted.

It describes approximately $50 million in suspicious wire transfers from 2010 to 2015.

Those transfers were "tied to illicit drug and/or prostitution activities occurring in the U.S. Virgin Islands and New York City," the DEA documented.

The operation had a name: Operation Chain Reaction.

It ran for at least five years – while Epstein walked free.

The DEA routed this case through an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces Fusion Center in Virginia – a Reagan-era clearinghouse built so federal agencies could share intelligence on major criminal operations.

Law enforcement sources told CBS News the request to that Fusion Center flagged this as a "significant" case, not a routine inquiry.

The file also identifies bank accounts linked to Epstein in Switzerland, France, the Cayman Islands, and New York – a financial web spanning four countries that federal investigators were quietly mapping while Epstein attended black-tie dinners with presidents and princes.

The memo notes the matter was still "judicial pending" five years after it opened – meaning in 2015, investigators were still actively working it, possibly awaiting court approval for search warrants or tracking an arrest connected to the case.

One name slipped through the redactions by accident: a Polish fashion model connected to approximately $2 million of those transfers, identified as both a target of the investigation and a survivor of Epstein's abuse.

China's Top Legislature Abruptly Sacks 9 Top Military Officials

China has removed nine military lawmakers from its national parliament, escalating President Xi Jinping's purge of senior defense officials, which has been a months-long trend, tracked closely by global headlines.

In this latest move, first reported internationally by Bloomberg Thursday, the country's top legislative body stripped Ground Force Commander Li Qiaoming and Information Support Force Political Commissar Li Wei of their seats, along with seven other officers.

Such language is often presented in such crackdowns as a euphemism for corruption, which President Xi has in the recent past described as "the biggest threat". But critics as well as Western observers say this has served as a convenient and public PR mechanism for sidelining political rivals, and strengthening Xi's power and hold on the levers of power.

Such is likely also the case with the new firings of these nine military officials. In this fresh case, Beijing has only offered that the officials are suspected of "serious discipline and law violations" - again, just like with the ambiguous Zhang Youxia case.
