Shits been going on ever since kids were put on computers.
The underlying systems themselves interact with a child's mind at a deeper level than most are aware. Pretty sure this is how autism exploded, that children have been learning to interact with a world which is fabricated at a very deep level, leaving them struggling to understand the real world. That's why their efforts to program children with digital propaganda have failed so spectacularly: many children are interacting with the deeper systems rather than the paint job.
They still don't seem to have noticed what they've actually done.
The question is: Was it legit?
