"Not long ago, the United States military commenced extensive combat operations in Iran. Our goal is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime—a cruel, ruthless, and horrifying group. Their destructive activities have directly endangered the United States, our forces, our bases abroad, and our allies around the world.
For 47 years, the Iranian regime has shouted 'Death to America' and waged an endless campaign of bloodshed and slaughter against the United States, our forces, and innocent people in many countries. Their initial act was the violent takeover of the American embassy in Tehran, where dozens of Americans were held hostage for 444 days.
In 1983, an Iranian proxy carried out the bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, killing 241 American military personnel. In 2000, they were aware of the attack on the USS Cole and were possibly involved in it. Many lives were lost. Iranian forces have killed hundreds of American servicemen in Iraq. In recent years, this regime’s proxy forces have conducted numerous attacks against U.S. forces stationed in the Middle East, as well as against America’s naval fleet, commercial vessels, and international shipping routes. This has been widespread terrorism, and we will no longer tolerate it.
From Lebanon to Yemen, and from Syria to Iraq, this regime has armed, trained, and financed terrorist groups that have soaked the ground with blood and corpses. It was this terrorist proxy force, Hamas, that conducted the horrific attacks on October 7 against Israel, massacring over a thousand innocent people, including 46 Americans, and taking 12 of our citizens hostage. This was a brutal assault—something the world has never seen before.
Iran is the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism and has recently killed tens of thousands of its own citizens while they were protesting in the streets. The U.S. policy, especially during my administration, has been that this terrorist regime must never obtain nuclear weapons. Again, I say: they must never have nuclear weapons.
That is why, in Operation Midnight Hammer last June, we destroyed the regime's nuclear program in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. After that attack, we warned them never to resume their hostile pursuit of nuclear weapons and have repeatedly sought a deal. We tried. Sometimes they wanted to negotiate, then they didn’t. They wanted, they didn’t want. They didn’t know what they were doing. They only wanted to continue their evil. But Iran, just as it has for decades, refused to accept. They turned down every opportunity to abandon their nuclear ambitions, and we can no longer tolerate this situation.

Instead, they have attempted to rebuild their nuclear program and continue developing long-range missiles that can now threaten our very good friends and allies in Europe, target our forces overseas, and soon reach American soil as well. Imagine if this regime really got its hands on nuclear weapons—how bold they would become.
For these reasons, the United States military has initiated a broad and sustained operation to counter this radical and evil dictatorship’s threat against America and our fundamental national security interests. We will destroy their missiles and completely obliterate their missile industry. Once again, it will be entirely destroyed. We will annihilate their navy. We will ensure that the regime’s terrorist proxy forces cannot destabilize the region or attack our forces any longer, nor will they be able to use roadside bombs and improvised explosive devices to kill and injure thousands, including many Americans. And we will guarantee that Iran never obtains nuclear weapons. The message is very simple: they will never have nuclear weapons.
This regime will soon learn that no one should challenge the power and capability of the armed forces of the United States. I built and rebuilt our military during my first term, and no military in the world even comes close to its power, capability, and sophistication.
My administration will take every possible action to mitigate risks to American forces in the region. However—and I do not say this lightly—the Iranian regime seeks to kill Americans. We may lose brave American heroes, and there may be casualties; these things happen in war. But we are not doing this only for today; we are doing this for the future. This is a noble mission.
We pray for every soldier who courageously puts themselves in harm's way to ensure that Americans and our children are never threatened by a nuclear-armed Iran. We ask God to protect all our heroes in the field of danger, and we are confident that with His help, the men and women of our armed forces will prevail. We have the greatest forces in the world, and they will prevail.
To the members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the armed forces, and all police forces, I say tonight: you must lay down your weapons and receive full immunity, or you will face certain death. Lay down your weapons; you will be treated fairly and receive full immunity, or you will face certain death.
And finally, to the great and proud people of Iran, I say: your hour of freedom has arrived tonight. Stay in your shelters. Do not leave your homes. It is very dangerous outside.
