The IDF launched a series of strikes across Lebanon early Monday in response to rocket fire by Hezbollah toward the Haifa area, opening a new front as the war with Iran intensified. Meanwhile, the military said it began a new round of strikes against Iranian regime targets in the heart of Tehran.

Military officials said Hezbollah was responsible for the rockets fired earlier from Lebanese territory, which triggered air-raid sirens in Haifa and surrounding communities without the advance warning typically provided by alert systems.

Communities in northern Israel told residents that the military had begun what it described as a “wave of strikes” across Lebanon and that the attacks were expected to continue in the coming days.

In light of the escalation, local authorities reiterated emergency guidelines, emphasizing that launches from Lebanon can occur without prior warning. Residents were instructed to immediately head to a protected space upon hearing a siren.

Police find warhead, incendiary material in Sultan’s Pool venue just meters outside Old City of Jerusalem. Missile could ‘very possibly’ have hit key holy site, police say

The warhead of an Iranian missile hit a site just several dozen meters from the Old City of Jerusalem, and just several hundred meters from the Western Wall and the Temple Mount, during the course of Saturday, police announced on Sunday.

According to police, an explosion was heard and smoke was seen rising from a site just west of the Old City on Saturday morning, shortly after the beginning of the latest armed conflict with Iran.

The impact site appears to have been the Sultan’s Pool outdoor events venue, which lies just a few dozen meters to the west of the Old City and just under a kilometer west of the Temple Mount, as the crow flies.

Police and sappers conducted searches of the area and found the warhead from an Iranian ballistic missile, along with “incendiary and explosive materials” scattered nearby, the police said.

The warhead was then neutralized by sappers from the police’s Jerusalem District.

Remind me again — how exactly was this war supposed to stay in the Middle East?

This is the part where the commentators who couldn’t find Iran on a map suddenly transform into wartime philosophers, urging us to “stay the course” while they sit safely behind studio lights. Meanwhile, Cyprus — a supposedly peaceful European outpost — just found itself pulled into the blast radius of a conflict it didn’t start.

And here’s the uncomfortable truth no one wants to say out loud:

A war with Iran is not a “regional dust-up.”

It is the textbook opening sequence of a global conflict.

The alliances are already lined up.

The grievances are already decades deep.

Russia and China are watching, laughing, and calculating their next move.

How does this not end in World War Three?

We keep pretending that Europe can fan flames in the Middle East without getting burned. We keep pretending that poking a sworn enemy will never provoke retaliation. We keep pretending that missiles don’t cross borders just because the Foreign Office wishes they didn’t.

And now here we are — a European island suddenly in the trajectory of Iranian rockets — and Western leaders are still playing shock and denial.

So please, someone explain one more time how this war was a “good idea.”

Because Europe just got its first warning shot, and the next one might not miss.

Hezbollah has officially claimed responsibility for the attack on the Mishmar HaCarmel missile defense site in northern Israel, saying it was in retaliation for the blood of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei “shed by the criminal Zionist enemy” and in defense of Lebanon and its people.

“The Resistance leadership said that continued Israeli attacks and the assassination of its leaders and members give it the right to respond at a time and place of its choosing,” the Lebanese militant group said in a statement.

Hezbollah described the strikes as a “legitimate act of self-defense” and reaffirmed its right to respond at a time and place of its choosing for the assassination of its leaders in the pager bombing attack and Israeli raids in 2024.
