Aussie motorists have been issued a grim warning on petrol prices as deadly conflict in the Middle East plunges global markets into chaos.
Australian motorists could face petrol price hikes in as little as a week amid deadly conflict in the Middle East, the NRMA has warned.
Fears of skyrocketing petrol prices have grown in the days since the US and Israel launched a joint strike operation on Iran, sparking retaliatory attacks and plunging the Middle East into chaos.
Urging Australians not to panic, NRMA spokesman Peter Khoury said they were currently expecting a jump of about 10 per cent, with the coming days and weeks to prove critical.
“In the first instance, whatever happens overseas takes about seven to 10 days to flow on here at home,” he said.
“We should not see an impact at the bowser immediately.”

The US and Israel are fully prepared to sustain the intensity of their assault on Iran for over a month, even if it means more American casualties, President Donald Trump told The New York Times in a brief interview on Sunday.
“We have tremendous amounts of ammunition. You know, we have ammunition stored all over the world in different countries,” Trump said, insisting that it “won’t be difficult” to keep fighting for another “four to five weeks.”
The US president also acknowledged that based on the Pentagon’s projections, he expected more American casualties than the three service members officially confirmed dead so far.
“Three is three too many as far as I’m concerned,” Trump said. “If you look at projections, they do projections, it, you know, it could be quite a bit higher than that… We expect casualties.”
Asked about his vision for a regime change in Iran, Trump expressed hope that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other security forces would simply lay down their arms and “surrender to the people” – while simultaneously citing the US raid on Venezuela as a “perfect scenario.”
“What we did in Venezuela, I think, is the perfect, the perfect scenario,” Trump said. “Everybody’s kept their job except for two people.”

The British Royal Air Force base Akrotiri in Cyprus was indeed targeted by a “suspected drone strike” earlier in the night, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed, without clarifying whether there was any damage or casualties.
“Our armed forces are responding to a suspected drone strike at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus at midnight local time,” an MoD spokesperson told the media. “Our force protection in the region is at the highest level and the base has responded to defend our people.”
The incident took place shortly after PM Keir Starmer said the UK had agreed to allow the US to use British military bases for “defensive” strikes against Iran.

Rory Amon, 36, returned to the witness box today to defend a slew of child sex charges relating to various acts done to the teen in 2017.
The boy, who was 13 years old at the time, met the future politician through a gay dating app before the alleged rape and sexual abuse took place.
Amon says he drove to the teen's Sydney apartment on July 22, 2017, believing the youth was 17-years-old.
Today, he told a NSW Supreme Court jury he had met the boy outside the unit complex before being led to the underground car park's bathroom.
He was hazy on the details about what happened next but said he likely would have asked the boy for a kiss.
"My usual approach would be to ask someone if I could kiss them before I kissed them," he said.

Minutes after Defrin finished his press conference, Defense Minister Israel Katz posted that Hezbollah Chief Naim Qassem is now in the IDF's crosshairs.
IDF Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Effie Defrin on Monday said that it was still possible that the IDF might invade southern Lebanon in response to Hezbollah's rocket attacks overnight.
Defrin did not commit to such an invasion, but notably did not rule it out.
The IDF chief spokesman emphasized that the IDF had ordered the evacuation of over 50 southern Lebanese villages overnight.
