Arshad Khatana, a Leeds mosque chairman and Labour Party member, has been administratively suspended from the party pending an investigation into allegations of holding "abhorrent" and "shocking" views, including antisemitic rhetoric and support for extremist conspiracy theories.

 

Rachel Reeves, the UK Chancellor, has been criticized by Reform UK’s Treasury spokesman Robert Jenrick for her longstanding association with Khatana, including being pictured with him 27 times since 2010 and visiting his home. Jenrick accused Reeves of poor judgment, suggesting she cultivated ties with Khatana to bolster her political standing in her Leeds constituency.

 

Reeves’ office stated that she was not aware of the alleged views attributed to Khatana and that these views are not shared by her. A dossier from Reform UK alleges Khatana shared videos glorifying terrorist groups, promoted antisemitic conspiracy theories (such as the “Zionist Rothschild criminals” narrative), and hosted preachers with extremist views, including one who claimed Google is “run by the Jews.”

 

The controversy emerged ahead of Reeves’ Spring Statement, with Reform UK framing it as part of a broader concern over “sectarian politics” in the UK. The Labour Party has not confirmed whether Reeves will formally distance herself from Khatana.
