US lawmaker accuses Trump of trying to bury Epstein with Iran

Republican Congressman Thomas Massie has long fought to publicize the files related to the late pedophile

A Republican lawmaker has accused US President Donald Trump of attempting to distract the public from the Epstein scandal by embroiling the country in a conflict with Iran.

Representative Thomas Massie’s comments come after the release of millions of pages of files on late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein by the US Justice Department (DOJ). The documents mention Trump over 5,000 times, though without any indication of criminal activity.

“Bombing a country on the other side of the globe won’t make the Epstein files go away,” Massie said on X on Sunday.

In other posts, the congressman described the US-Israeli attacks on Iran as “acts of war unauthorized by Congress” and expressed opposition to the conflict. “This is not ‘America First.’”

A long-time critic of Trump over his ties with Epstein, Massie is one of several lawmakers who have accused the US president of using foreign crises to distract from the scandal.

Massie and Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna co-sponsored the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which required the DOJ to release all documents related to the convicted sex offender. Trump signed the bill into law in November, following pressure from lawmakers and his own supporters.

Last month, Massie and Khanna publicly identified six men whose names had been redacted in the final tranche of files. Khanna questioned why the release took an intervention.

“Imagine how many men they are covering up for in those three million files,” he said in Congress.

US Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche objected to the claims, accusing the lawmakers of “grandstanding” and insisting that the DOJ has nothing to hide.

Massie’s position has soured his relations with Trump.

In a Truth Social post in January, the US president called him a “weak and pathetic” “third-rate congressman” and endorsed his primary challenger, Ed Gallrein, in Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District.

To date, the Justice Department has not announced charges against anyone mentioned in the Epstein files.

Pete Hegseth:

“This is your moment. This is the generational turning point America has waited for since 1979 and since the rudderless wars of hubris my generation—our generation—endured. Don’t listen to the noise. Just stay focused. Our Commander-in-Chief is steady at the wheel.

We face a determined enemy, but you are better. But we must prove it every single day. History doesn’t care if we’re tired, if we’re scared, or if the fight feels big. It demands warriors who rise anyway.

Peace through strength, the warrior ethos, lethality, unity of purpose—those are not slogans. They’re the beating heart of what it means to wear that uniform. You think clearly under fire, you act decisively in chaos, you uphold the Constitution, and you uphold our country without hesitation.

We are not defenders anymore. We are warriors, trained to kill the enemy and break their will. History is watching. Be the force you swore an oath to be: focused, disciplined, lethal, and unbreakable.

We will finish this on America First conditions of President Trump’s choosing—nobody else’s—as it should be. And know this above all: President Trump and I have your back, always. Through fire, through criticism, through fake news, through everything—we unleash you because you are the best, most powerful, most lethal fighting force the world has ever seen.

May Almighty God watch over you, and may His providential arms of protection extend over you. Godspeed, warriors—and keep going.”

UK PM says US will not use British bases in Cyprus

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Monday British military bases in Cyprus will not be used by the US in its ongoing war with Iran.

Starmer’s comments came despite criticism from US President Donald Trump over the UK leader’s initial refusal to let Washington use British military bases in the conflict.

On Sunday Starmer announced that he had agreed to a US request to use British military bases for a “specific and limited defensive purpose”.

But in comments to parliament on Monday he said this will not include bases on the Mediterranean island.

“The bases in Cyprus are not being used and not going to be used by the US… because they’re not suitable,” he said.

An Iranian drone hit the runway of the UK’s Akrotiri air force base which lies on the southern tip of the island on Sunday.

Starmer stressed to MPs that this was “not in response to any decision that we have taken” but was launched before the UK’s announcement that it would allow the US to use its bases.

The area around the base was evacuated, the Cypriot interior ministry said.

Fury in Trump administration as Netanyahu circle claims credit for Iran war: 'A stab in the back'

Senior US officials voiced anger over briefings from the prime minister’s circle suggesting Netanyahu pushed Trump to launch the strike on Iran, saying the president 'needed no persuasion' and acted because it was right for the world and the Middle East

Senior officials in the Trump administration expressed anger Monday evening over briefings circulating from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s circle claiming that Netanyahu had drawn President Donald Trump into going to war with Iran.

“He believed it was the right thing to do,” the officials said. “These things are a kind of stab in the back. It sends the wrong message to the Israeli public.”

The officials added angrily that Trump is paying a heavy price for going to war and should not have it portrayed as though Netanyahu pushed him into the campaign. Their remarks come amid polls showing an overwhelming majority of the American public opposes going to war with the Islamic Republic.

“Trump absolutely does not need Bibi and his so-called persuasion to do what is right and good for the world and the Middle East,” the officials said, using Netanyahu’s nickname. “Trump is a true leader. He knows exactly what to do and how to do it and does not need advice or persuasion from anyone. There is no need to mislead the public in Israel.”

There is significant anger toward Netanyahu in Trump’s circle. Only recently, the White House shared a video of former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett praising President Trump.

Schiff Slams Trump’s Iran Strikes as Congress Braces for War Powers Showdown

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) sharply criticized President Trump on Sunday for authorizing large-scale strikes against Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several top regime officials, warning the move risks dragging the United States into a broader Middle East war.

“There was simply no basis to go in with this massive military campaign, with the goal of regime change,” Schiff said on ABC’s This Week. “And the concern here is that we have unleashed factors in the region now that we cannot control.”

Schiff acknowledged that Khamenei led what he called a “brutal dictatorship” and “murderous regime,” but argued that Iran “posed no imminent threat of attack” to the United States at the time of the strikes.

The weekend operation, which also killed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Mohammad Pakpour, National Defense Council head Ali Shamkhani, and Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, has triggered retaliatory missile barrages by Iran across Israel and several Arab countries. As of Sunday morning, U.S. Central Command reported that three American service members had been killed and five injured.

President Trump framed the operation as both a national security necessity and an opportunity for political change inside Iran. In remarks directed to the Iranian people, he urged them to rise once U.S. and Israeli military operations conclude.

“When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take,” Trump said. “This will be, probably, your only chance for generations.”

Schiff warned that such rhetoric could have dangerous consequences.

“If the Iranian people do rise up, as [Trump] has called upon them to do, maybe they’re successful,” Schiff said. “Maybe they get slaughtered in reliance on the president’s implicit promise that we will be there to help them.”
