Final Defendant Sentenced in $100M Dietary Supplement Fraud and Money Laundering Scheme

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A Utah man was sentenced to 36 months’ imprisonment by U.S. District Court Judge David Barlow for his involvement in a years-long moneymaking scheme that misled banks and deceived consumers.

Phillip Gannuscia, 55, of Salt Lake City, pleaded guilty on April 9, 2025, to conspiracy to commit money laundering. In addition to his term of imprisonment, the court ordered Gannuscia to 24 months of supervised release and the forfeiture of his Porsche 911 convertible that was traceable to the scheme.

According to court documents and statements made at Gannuscia’s change of plea and sentencing hearings, from around December 2018 through April 2022, Gannuscia engaged in a scheme and artifice to defraud. The scheme involved applying for credit card processing accounts with fake companies, created with the personal information of family and friends. These accounts would be used to process consumer sales of nutraceutical and dietary products. Because the sales came from misleading and deceptive advertising, the credit card processing accounts would get shut down frequently due to high numbers of refunds or “chargebacks.” To work around these shutdowns, Gannuscia, along with others, helped set up the fake companies, used the credit card processing accounts for payments from consumers, and then laundered the proceeds.

At the time of his involvement in the scheme, Gannuscia was subject to a court order permanently enjoining and restraining him from credit card laundering and making or assisting others in making false statements to obtain credit card processing services. He admitted to setting up the operations for the scheme to shield himself from public view and accountability. He directed others to forge and paste signatures on documents for the fake companies.

Gannuscia admitted to laundering money on numerous occasions, each involving more than $10,000 of fraud proceeds. The total gain attributable to Gannuscia was more than $1.5 million. See prior press release.

UK police reportedly arrest MP's partner on suspicion of spying for China

The partner of a sitting member of Britain's parliament is reportedly one of three men arrested by British police on suspicion of assisting China's foreign intelligence service.

Police said counterterrorism officers arrested a 39-year-old man in London as well as a 68-year-old man and a 43-year-old man in Wales. All are being held in custody.

They were not named, in keeping with usual UK police practice, but British media reports say one of the men is the partner of a current MP in Britain's ruling Labour Party and another is the spouse of a former Labour MP.

Joani Reid, the Labour member for the East Kilbride area south of Glasgow, whose husband was reported by local media to have been arrested, issued a statement saying she had "never seen anything to make me suspect my husband has broken any law".

She did not name her husband, David Taylor, who is 39.

"I am not part of my husband's business activities and neither I nor my children are part of this investigation," it read.

"I have never been to China. I have never spoken on China or China-related matters in the [House of] Commons."

Asked about the arrests in parliament, Minister of State for Security Dan Jarvis declined to give any further details, citing the ongoing police investigation.

There was no immediate comment from the Labour Party.

In recent years, relations between Britain and China have been strained over spying accusations.

In November, Britain's MI5 security service gave another warning to member of the upper and lower houses of parliament about attempts by Chinese agents to collect information and influence activity at Westminster.

Beijing has strongly denied those claims, calling them a fabrication and malicious slander.

In a statement, the Chinese embassy in London condemned what it called attempts to "fabricate facts and concoct so-called 'espionage cases' to maliciously slander China", and said it had lodged a protest with the British side.

NATO chief Mark Rutte told Newsmax there has been “widespread support” for the US strikes in Iran.
