Trump Says US Will Escort, Insure Oil Tankers Amid the Iran War

(Bloomberg) โ€“ President Donald Trump said the US will provide insurance guarantees and naval escorts to ensure safe passage for oil tankers and other vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, intending to head off a potential energy crisis caused by the war with Iran.

Trump said Tuesday that the US International Development Finance Corporation would offer insurance โ€œat a very reasonable priceโ€ to help ensure the flow of energy and other commercial trade in the Gulf. In addition, he said โ€œif necessary, the United States Navy will begin escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, as soon as possible.โ€

>Military has made many men lost

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty:

Although cut off for five days from the remainder of his division, Major Whittlesey maintained his position, which he had reached under orders received for an advance, and held his command, consisting originally of 46 officers and men of the 308th Infantry and of Company K of the 307th Infantry, together in the face of superior numbers of the enemy during the five days. Major Whittlesey and his command were thus cut off, and no rations or other supplies reached him, in spite of determined efforts which were made by his division. On the 4th day Major Whittlesey received from the enemy a written proposition to surrender, which he treated with contempt, although he was at the time out of rations and had suffered a loss of about 50 percent in killed and wounded of his command and was surrounded by the enemy.

In November 1921, Whittlesey acted as a pallbearer at the burial of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, along with fellow Medal of Honor recipients Samuel Woodfill and Alvin York. A few days later he booked passage from New York to Havana aboard the SS Toloa, a United Fruit Company ship. On November 26, 1921, his first night out of New York, he dined with the captain and left the smoking room at 11:15 p.m. stating he was retiring for the evening and it was noted by the captain that he was in good spirits. Whittlesey was never seen again and committed suicide by jumping overboard; his body was never recovered.

>A story about suicide?

A story about your point that the 'Military has made many men lost', Anon. That is a valid point. I can think of many prominent military leaders who were conflicted and suicidal.

Merritt Austin Edson, Sr. (April 25, 1897 โ€“ August 14, 1955), known as "Red Mike", was a major general in the United States Marine Corps, First President of the Marine Corps War Memorial Foundation and First Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Public Safety & Vermont State Police.

Among the decorations he received were the Medal of Honor, two Navy Crosses, the Silver Star, and two Legions of Merit. He is best known by Marines for the defense of Lunga Ridge during the Guadalcanal Campaign in World War II.

He died on August 14, 1955, in Washington, D.C., by his own hand, having committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning in the garage next to his Washington, D.C. home while serving in the NRA post.

There are many such cases. Ultimately your job is killing people and your superiors care more about reputations and careers than human losses. It's not all BS, but you can never escape the killing of your fellow human beings.
