🇺🇸🇮🇶🇮🇶US Special Forces conducted helicopter landings in several strategic desert areas of the Iraqi provinces of Anbar, Kerbala, and Najaf, according to the Kurdish publication Rudaw.
According to its information, American troops landed at points in the Rutba area, including the Shanaan area near Nukhaib and the Chalabat area, using 5-7 helicopters.
When Iraqi border guards and army units approached the landing sites on March 4, clashes occurred.
One Iraqi soldier was killed and two were injured, and two Humvee off-road vehicles belonging to the Iraqi army were damaged or burned. Iraqi officials stated that the troops opened fire when they approached within a few kilometers.
The authorities stated that the purpose of the deployment remains unclear, although it could have been related to reconnaissance or information gathering. It is known that militia of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) are based in these areas.
Iraqi security forces characterized the incident as an unjustified attack and launched a high-level investigation.
