Four Sentenced to Over 14 Years for $12.7M Medicaid Fraud Scheme in North Carolina
Four people have been sentenced to more than 14 years in federal prison for running a $12.7 million Medicaid fraud operation in North Carolina that authorities described as a “Minnesota-Somali-style fraud” scheme. Prosecutors said the group paid more than $1 million in kickbacks to drug-addicted patients as part of the operation.
According to officials, Brandon Eugene Sims, Kimberly Mable Sims, Francine Sims Super, and Keke Komeko Johnson operated Life Touch, LLC, a fraudulent substance abuse treatment facility that has since been permanently shut down, along with 1st Choice Healthcare Services, a urine drug screening company used to carry out the scheme. Prosecutors said the businesses billed Medicaid for services that were unnecessary or never provided.
