House Republicans discussed plans for a second party-line megabill during their policy retreat in Florida this past week, and now GOP senators want in on the action.
Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), in her capacity as head of the Senate DOGE Caucus, sent a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson and House Budget Chair Jodey Arrington (R-Texas)outlining what she says are $93.5 billion in savings that could be incorporated into a filibuster-skirting budget reconciliation bill.
“Republicans should seize every opportunity to advance policies that lower prices, cut taxes, and lift burdensome regulationsoff the backs of American families while we hold the White House and majorities in both chambers of Congress,” Ernst wrote in the letter, shared first with POLITICO. “This moment will not last forever.”
Her list includes proposals to claw back unspent COVID-era funds; rescind more of former President Joe Biden’s climate initiatives; impose stiffer penalties for states with high rates of inaccurate SNAP food aid payments; implement a new $250 fee for new electric vehicle owners; and create more accountability for government charge cards.
“This is not an exhaustive list, and I stand ready to help you pass another transformational reconciliation bill,” Ernst said.
The DOGE Caucus, created to mirror the work of the now largely defunct Department of Government Efficiency formerly led by tech billionaire Elon Musk, has little tangible power on Capitol Hill. But Ernst’s appeal signals the extent to which jockeying among Republicans has begun as discussions accelerate around a second megabill — even if there’s scant evidence congressional Republicans can pull one off.
Johnson told House Republicans in a closed-door session closing out the retreat Wednesday that he remains intent on pursuing a new reconciliation package to follow on last year’s “big beautiful bill” focused largely on tax cuts. The legislation could theoretically tackle some cost-of-living issues, but the speaker didn’t offer any specific policies that would be incorporated or a timeline for advancing it, according to four people in the room granted anonymity to describe the private meeting.
Some senior Republicans present privately warned they don’t have much time left for such a big legislative lift, and their razor-thin and frequently fractious House majority could make it difficult to find necessary consensus around a final legislative product.

Even as transgender “health care” is losing steam in the medical industry, a powerful LGBTQ+ activist group is expanding its demands for the kind of “gender-affirming care” that companies provide—including cosmetic interventions like an Adam’s apple shave and liposuction.
The Human Rights Campaign, which bills itself as America’s “largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization,” has long employed mafia-like tactics to pressure companies to toe the line on gender ideology. Even though its influence campaign is on the back foot after a devastating 2025, HRC is actually ramping up its demands for transgender “health care.”
Over the years, HRC has expanded its requirements for companies to get a 100 “perfect score” on its “Corporate Equality Index.” The index has always included non-discrimination policies and diversity trainings, but it has increasingly required LGBTQ+ activism and coverage for sex-rejecting procedures.

HRC’s Social Credit Score
Like the mafia or Al Capone, the Human Rights Campaign promises brands protection from the Left’s activist investorsand protester shock troops in exchange for a generous cut—and not just in terms of money. To demonstrate their “equality,” companies take pro-LGBTQ+ stances, contribute to activist groups, and promote rainbow-themed products. Investors in the environmental, social, and governance movement used HRC’s index to determine where their money went.
Under President Joe Biden, HRC prodded the federal government to implement at least 75% of its 2020 demands.
As the index grew more powerful, the LGBTQ+ mafia kept moving the goalposts. The first edition of the index (2002-2005) focused on non-discrimination, diversity trainings, and affinity groups.
The second edition (2006-2012) required “parity in at least one transgender wellness benefit,” including counseling, coverage of cross-sex hormones (such as estrogen for men or testosterone for women), medical visits, or “medically necessary surgical procedures such as hysterectomy.” The 2006 index gave companies 5 out of 100 points for this transgender “wellness” benefit.
The 2012 edition began awarding 10 points for “transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage.” This required that insurance contracts contain “no blanket exclusions for coverage” and that they be “based on the World Professional Association for Transgender Health Standards of Care.” WPATH, an activist group masquerading as a health authority, hid doctors’ concernsabout the negative effects of sex-rejecting procedures.
An Adam’s Apple ‘Shave’
In 2023, HRC moved the goalposts again. Rather than 10 points, the transgender health care benefits would be worth 25 points. The old 2012 standard would count for 15 points, and to earn the remaining 10, companies would need to offer coverage of five of the following:
Hair removal
Hair removal specifically for reconstructive surgery
Tracheal shave/reduction
Facial feminization surgeries
Voice modification surgery
Voice modification therapy
Lipoplasty/filling for body masculinization or feminization
Travel and lodging expenses

Men tend to have more cartilage in front of our voice boxes—often referred to as an “Adam’s apple.” If a man who identifies as a woman still has this feature, it may “out” him as transgender, so these men want to get rid of their “Madam’s apples.” A “tracheal shave” refers to the process of shaving that cartilage to hide a man’s true sex.
“Lipoplasty,” commonly known as liposuction, involves removing stubborn fat for body contouring. While companies may object to the idea of footing the bill for a woman’s liposuction to appear more attractive, HRC demands that they consider offering the same treatment for a different woman—if she wants to appear male.
As Americans might expect, this new requirement proved too much for HRC’s corporate partners.
In July 2024, HRC granted companies a reprieve from the new requirements. They only had until this year to get their affairs in order, however, and the 2026 Corporate Equality Index scores included the Madam’s apple requirements.
A Shave Too Far?
Hundreds of companies opted out of the LGBTQ+ mafia’s protection racket last year, and these new requirements may have contributed.
At the beginning of 2025, 377 Fortune 500 companies filled out HRC’s survey for the Corporate Equality Index. This year, that number plunged by 65%, with only 131 companies in the Fortune 500 opting to work with HRC.
Both Target and Bud Light faced strong backlash for public transgender stances in 2023, and pressure built from there.
Conservatives and their allies began launching their own indices to encourage ideological diversity and bring companies back to neutral. Conservatives have also used shareholder resolutions to get companies to reject leftist social activism.
This backlash also helped President Donald Trump secure a second term in 2024.
Health Care’s Return to Sanity
HRC is also rowing against the tide when it comes to health care.
The Department of Health and Human Services has concluded that there is little evidence for positive impacts from transgender medical interventions on minors, but it found many documented harms.
A jury awarded a detransitioner $2 million, finding that the medical professionals who carried out sex-rejecting procedures on her were liable for medical malpractice.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons released a statement recommending against transgender surgery for minors under 19, leading other medical associations to follow suit.
These developments will make HRC’s preferred “health care” more and more expensive—and less and less palatable for the companies that couldn’t afford it in 2024.
HRC may be on the back foot, but conservatives and other Americans who want companies to prioritize business over leftist advocacy shouldn’t rest on their laurels. Investors can keep making HRC’s protection racket less valuable, and they need to keep up the pressure.

Man who grappled with Lurie’s security speaks out

The 44-year-old man charged with crimes after fighting with Mayor Daniel Lurie’s security detail March 5 spoke with reporters Thursday morning alongside his lawyer at San Francisco Superior Court.
“I’m doing better out of jail. I was sweating,” said Tony Phillips, who was arrested soon after the incident was caught on tape. “I know what’s running in my mind. My thoughts are clear, at least.”
Phillips pleaded not guiltyWednesday and was released from custody early Thursday morning after a judge reviewed video footage and said it appeared that Phillips was the victim in the case.
Phillips — who was back in court Thursday for an unrelated case— saidhe had no idea that the man who asked him to move away from the street where he lives in a tent was the mayor.
“It’s essentially a situation where Mr. Phillips is being told by law enforcement that he cannot be at his home,” said his court-appointed attorney, Ivan Rodriguez.
According to a police report, Lurie and his security detail were driving on Larkin Street around 5:30 p.m. when the mayor got out of the vehicle and asked a group of men to move out of the street.
Phillips asked by what authority he was being asked to move. Plainclothes officer Joel Aguayo said he was a copand that uniformed officers might be called if the men did not move.
Phillips then approached the officer and said that he was gonna “Bruce Lee kick your ass,” according to video of the incident. The officer shoved Phillips. Lurie ran to his vehicle to alert another officer as Phillips and Aguayo grappled then fell to the ground. Aguayo and the other officer were injured in the ensuing scuffle.
The incident, which has raised questions about the mayor’s dealings with the public, has not altered his hands-on approach to governing. Lurie has said he wanted the group of men to move for the safety of themselves and others.
Phillips was charged with felony resisting an officer, assaulting a peace officer with force likely to cause great bodily injury, and one count of violating a court stay-away order. Abraham Simon, who attempted to stop a second officer from helping Aguayo, was charged with resisting, delaying, and obstructing a peace officer.
Rodriguez contends that his client was attacked and that the charges should never have been filed. “We’re gonna get justice. We are asking for it to be swift,” the lawyer said. “Mr. Phillips is the victim in this situation.”
According to Rodriguez, Phillips’ release cameafter Superior Court Judge Sylvia Husing(opens in new tab) viewed video of the incident and said he appeared to be the victim.
“She said that from seeing the video it was quite obvious that it was Mr. Phillips who was the person violently attacked,” said Rodriguez.“Mr. Phillips is not guilty of these charges.”
After his release from jail, Phillips was given a shelter bed, the attorney said.
A hearing in the case is set for April 15.
Meanwhile, Lurie has said he will continue to approach homeless people and others in the streets, arguing that it is a key part of his role.
“We all need to be out and about and seeing what our small-business owners are going through and what our families and our children are going through,” Lurie told the San Francisco Chronicle on Wednesday(opens in new tab). “Our elders have to walk down those streets, too.
“It is my job to lean in,” he added. “If I’m not doing it, how can I expect my department heads and [SFPD] and sheriff and park rangers to interact with people that are of concern?”

West Virginia GOP Guts Migration Reform to Help CEOs Using Migrants
The Republican-controlled West Virginia Senate Judiciary Committee is moving to water down an E-Verify bill to excuse more businesses from being required to use the system for hiring migrants.
In fact, Republican state Sen. Eric Tarr tried to convince his colleagues to table House Bill 4198 entirely but was overruled, according to WVRC West Virginia.
Tarr tried to convince the committee that small business operators need more latitude to hire cheap migrant labor. Tarr claimed that he feels the bill is meant to “entrap businesses” adding, “That’s what this feels like when I read it as a business owner.”
State Senate Judiciary Chairman Tom Willis is also hoping to undercut the bill, saying that it needs more work and pushing it into a subcommittee for Republican state Sen. Patricia Rucker to make revisions.
“I say that we’re not putting this into subcommittee with an intent to kill this bill. We’re putting this into subcommittee with the intent to clean it up so we have a good product that is good for West Virginia,” Willis said.
Like other states with similar legislation, the West Virginia E-Verify bill would strengthen requirements for employers to run new hires through the system to confirm eligibility for legal employment.
HB 4198 would require all private businesses and state governments to use the system for new hires. The bill does not exempt businesses by size, like in other states, and would require all “employers” to use the system for all hires.
The bill was passed in the state House on a 48-46 vote with some Republicans voting with Democrats to support businesses looking to escape the requirements.
For his part, Willis insisted that the state Senate is not bowing to illegal migrants.
“There’s no question that this committee is a committee dedicated to legal immigration and against illegal immigration,” Willis exclaimed.

“Dennis Quaid is in it, and he unfortunately is a crazy Trump guy with a gospel record,” complained exclaimed, adding that he is speaking of “real life,” not the movie.
“He, like, exploded. Right after we finished the movie,” the intolerant Offerman exclaimed, “he suddenly came out with a gospel country record and went on Tucker Carlson and fuckin’ Hannity to, like, play his Trump gospel songs.And we were like, ‘What?’ I mean, he’s a hero of my life. Offerman then accused Quaid of being “very crazy” like his brother, Randy Quaid.
“He was very crazy, and he went away,” he said of Randy Quaid, “but Dennis, like, kept it under wraps until just last year,” Offerman insisted.
Offerman has revealed his intolerance for Quaid’s center right political views before.
Last July Offerman, who is estimated to have a net worth of $25 million, ripped Quaid for supporting Trump and Republicans because the “the great bounty this country” is “disproportionately pocketed by the ultra-wealth.”
On the other hand, Offerman has felt completely at ease pushing his own radical political ideals. He was even called on the carpet for a “funny” Kamala Harris ad during the recent presidential campaign in which he suggested it would be OK to beat up elderly voters who didn’t vote for Harris.
during the pandemic, Offerman was also at the forefront of pushing Americans to take the COVID vaccine.
