wonder what that means, erm

Trading has been halted in all contracts on the London Metal Exchange (LME) due to a technical issue affecting its electronic trading platform, LME Select. The suspension began at 2:44 p.m. local time (14:40 GMT) on March 16, 2026, impacting key metals including copper, aluminium, zinc, lead, nickel, and tin. Prices stopped updating on platforms like Bloomberg and LSEG’s Workspace, leaving traders unable to place orders.

Despite the halt, inter-office trading continued normally, and the LME confirmed it is working urgently to resolve the issue. Given the timing near the 1600–1700 GMT pricing window, the exchange will use its backup pricing waterfall approach to determine closing prices, which will trigger a pricing disruption event. Trading is expected to resume after the closing prices are finalized. The root cause of the technical outage has not yet been disclosed.
