Bill Gates told that his charity pledge is ‘worthless’

Robert W. Wilson, a well-known philanthropist who had given away $600 million of his fortune as of 2013, abruptly turned aside Gate’s 2010 request that he sign the Giving Pledge.

“I’m going to stay far away from your effort,” Wilson told Gates in the same e-mail.

Last week [Dec, 2013], Wilson, 86, took his own life by throwing himself from his luxury Upper West Side high-rise, just a few months after suffering a debilitating stroke.

Six buildings housing city early education programs list for first time in decades

A half-dozen buildings in the Bronx and Queens, each leased entirely by the city, are hitting the market Tuesday for the first time in decades, with the seller hoping to get more than $50 million for them, according to the broker listing the properties.

This city-backed small business loan program just got a lot bigger

An Eric Adams-era small business loan pilot program had $10 million to lend but distributed just $1.2 million to four recipients. The Mamdani administration believes it has fixes and plans to relaunch the so-called Future Fund with $80 million and a mission to help seasonal businesses in particular.

Neuralink is not just going to repair sight - it's going to exceed the limits of human biology, eventually delivering high-res vision that outperforms the best natural eyes

"In the next 6 to 12 months, we’ll be doing our first implants for vision, where even if somebody is completely blind, we can write directly to the visual cortex."

"Long term, you would have very high resolution and be able to see multispectral wavelengths… you could see in infrared, ultraviolet, radar. It's like a superpower situation."

The World is about to be Rocked

Microsoft open sourced an inference framework that runs a 100B parameter LLM on a single CPU.

It's called BitNet. And it does what was supposed to be impossible.

No GPU. No cloud. No $10K hardware setup. Just your laptop running a 100-billion parameter model at human reading speed.

Here's how it works:

Every other LLM stores weights in 32-bit or 16-bit floats.

BitNet uses 1.58 bits.

Weights are ternary just -1, 0, or +1. That's it. No floats. No expensive matrix math. Pure integer operations your CPU was already built for.

The result:

  • 100B model runs on a single CPU at 5-7 tokens/second

  • 2.37x to 6.17x faster than llama.cpp on x86

  • 82% lower energy consumption on x86 CPUs

  • 1.37x to 5.07x speedup on ARM (your MacBook)

  • Memory drops by 16-32x vs full-precision models

The wildest part:

Accuracy barely moves.

BitNet b1.58 2B4T their flagship model was trained on 4 trillion tokens and benchmarks competitively against full-precision models of the same size. The quantization isn't destroying quality. It's just removing the bloat.

What this actually means:

  • Run AI completely offline. Your data never leaves your machine

  • Deploy LLMs on phones, IoT devices, edge hardware

  • No more cloud API bills for inference

  • AI in regions with no reliable internet

The model supports ARM and x86. Works on your MacBook, your Linux box, your Windows machine.

Judge’s ‘crass’ anti-trans dissent draws attention to moral insanity of Ninth Circuit ruling

The dissenting judge used a crude word, but his colleagues weren't offended by their decision to force Christian owners of a women's spa to allow a gender-confused man to use the facility.
