DOCCS: NY correctional facilities face rising drone contraband risk

ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT)- The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) says it is backing Gov. Kathy Hochul’s budget proposal to combat drones delivering contraband to prisons.

DOCCS says a drone was spotted by staff at Marcy Correctional Facility, dropping a package inside a secure area 1 a.m. on March 14. The package contained knives, drugs, and a cell phone.
DOCCS Commissioner Daniel F. Martuscello III says drones pose a threat and that they enable contraband delivery, risking safety.
NYSCOPBA President Chris Summers says because of the growing drone threat, he supports the proposal to criminalize drone use near prisons.
Council 82 Local President Russell Fox and CSEA President Mary Sullivan also voiced support for the legislation, stressing the need for proactive measures to address drone-related threats.

Mystery Deepens As Colleague Of Missing Air Force General Linked To UFO Research Has Also Vanished

Just when the story about missing retired U.S. Air Force Major General William Neil McCasland couldn’t get much stranger, another twist pops up.
It turns out that McCasland’s former colleague, Monica Reza, also vanished under mysterious circumstances last summer.
Since Friday, February 27, when people last saw him going for a trail run close to his house, authorities have been searching for McCasland.
The FBI, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico Search & Rescue, and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) in New Mexico are investigating his disappearance.
McCasland commanded the Phillips Research Site and Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico.
He also previously oversaw research at Ohio’s Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where the military’s notorious Project Blue Book looked into UFOs.
The 2016 WikiLeaks release also described him as a key adviser on several UFO-related projects. Because of this, at least one expert has called his disappearance a “grave national security crisis.”
McCasland left his wearable technology, prescription glasses, and phone at home before heading out for a trail run. McCasland has a leather-holstered .38 caliber handgun.
Since the authorities are currently unable to explain it, there is conjecture that he might have been carrying it when he disappeared.
So far, almost zero developments have emerged in the search, other than Susan McCasland Wilkerson, the general’s wife, attempting to clear up what she called “misinformation” around her husband’s disappearance.
According to officials, there have been no verified sightings or videos of him departing the region or indicating his direction of travel.
A similar case of someone with government ties disappearing while on a hike
Nine months ago, witnesses last saw Monica Reza hiking in the Angeles National Forest with a companion.
Reza was an aerospace engineer who reportedly worked on developing a special metal for rockets as part of a U.S. government project overseen by General McCasland.
According to NewsNation reporter Alex Caprariello, on June 22 of last year, Reza “vanished off the face of the earth.”
“Last seen hiking in the Los Angeles forest with a companion. By all accounts, everything seemed normal that day. She was about 30 feet behind the person she was hiking with, smiling and waving,” he said in a new report.
“He turned around, next thing, you know, she was just completely gone. Rescue teams spent days looking for her, but actually never recovered her body.”
Do the two missing persons cases connect?
“We don’t know whether or not these missing persons cases are connected at this point, but I did tip off the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department about it, asked if this was a lead that they were investigating, and we’re still waiting to hear back,” Caprariello added.
All that has been said about any possible connection thus far by law enforcement came when Sheriff John Allen noted, “We’ve had a lot of tips, and we will go through every tip, but there are some tips with some outlandish theories, conspiracy theories.
We will look into everything, but we are trying as a law enforcement agency and entity.”
Interestingly, a writer for Los Angeles magazine reported on Wednesday, “Online speculation has attempted to link Reza’s case to that of retired Air Force General Neil McCasland, in part because of the claims circulating on social media that Reza previously worked in the aerospace sector.
However, there is no confirmed reporting from law enforcement or the government establishing that Reza worked for a company directly overseen by McCasland during his tenure at the Air Force Research Laboratory.
Strangely, days after Reza’s disappearance, despite not recovering her body, she was listed as having a biodegradable burial.”

White House registers new ‘alien’-related .gov domains as DOD tackles Trump’s disclosure directive

It’s unclear whether this marks a change in the government’s plans for public UAP reporting options.
The White House registered two new government domains this week: alien.gov and aliens.gov, according to publicly available federal records.
Their appearance comes about one month after President Donald Trump announced plans to direct the long-anticipated release of U.S. government records about unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) and extraterrestrial beings.
Those new domains were not connected to websites as of Wednesday morning. But public data managed by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) reveals that both sites were registered Tuesday evening and are hosted on Cloudflare servers.
Shortly after Trump’s disclosure order in February, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon was keen to comply and had started actively working on the initiative.
Defense Department leadership set up the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) in 2022 during the Biden administration to detect and investigate UAP, which is the modern term for UFOs that accounts for perplexing maritime and transmedium objects.
AARO’s launch was sparked by mounting public concerns about national security risks associated with unidentified anomalous phenomena. Officials inside the office are working to resolve an ever-growing caseload of DOD-related UAP reports.
They’re also conducting activities to improve flight safety and synchronize efforts across the military regarding unexplained objects in the air, sea and space.
AARO maintains a website that serves as a central hub for federal UAP information.
The office is currently accepting reports about suspected UAP encounters — specifically from current or former U.S. government employees, military personnel, and contractors — with plans to expand to the general public sometime in the future.
White House and Pentagon spokespeople did not respond to questions from DefenseScoop on Wednesday regarding the registration of these new .gov domains, the content they will support, or whether this marks a change in the government’s plans for public UAP reporting options.
Under the second Trump administration, the White House and federal agencies resumed using the term “illegal alien” to describe noncitizens who entered or remained in the U.S. unlawfully.
Although the new domains’ timing aligns with the president’s UAP disclosure plans, they also surfaced as the administration is intensifying immigration enforcement across the nation.
Notably, both domains were launched while CISA is not accepting new .gov domain requests, due to a lapse in federal funding.
Spokespeople from that agency also did not respond to inquiries from DefenseScoop.
The arrival of aliens.gov was previously reported by 404 Media and first spotted by a bot that tracks .gov domains.

Mystery ‘Pyramid’ on Mars Sparks Debate Over Alien Origins

A strange formation spotted deep within a massive Martian canyon is once again fueling debate over whether something more than geology is at work on the Red Planet.
According to the New York Post, footage circulating online shows what appears to be a sharply defined, three-sided pyramid rising from the rugged terrain of Mars.
The structure, located in Valles Marineris, has drawn renewed attention after being shared by documentary filmmaker Brian Dobbs, who questioned whether the formation could be artificial.
“On Mars, there is a three-sided pyramid the size of the Great Pyramid in Egypt,” Dobbs wrote while posting zoomed-in footage of the object.
The unusual feature was first identified in 2001 by NASA researcher Keith Laney while analyzing data from the Mars Global Surveyor.
At the time, Laney suggested the formation was striking enough to warrant closer study.
“Were this found anywhere on Earth, we’d surely be digging into it,” he said.
The structure appears in a region known for dramatic cliffs and layered rock formations, where natural processes can sometimes create geometric-looking shapes. Still, Dobbs questioned whether that alone explains the symmetry.
“What geological process creates a three-sided pyramidal structure like this?” he asked. “It just is so baffling to me why we can take a look at this and say to ourselves there is nothing to see here, clearly this is an anomaly.”
According to reports, the formation has been observed multiple times between 2001 and 2016, consistently maintaining its shape.
Others have echoed the speculation. Researcher George Haas argued in a recent paper that the structure “exhibits a level of geometry and symmetry that supports a high probability of artificial origins.”
“You don’t have to be a geologist to know the difference between a rock and a sculpture, something that’s geometric,” he said.
Claims of possible artificial structures gained further traction after documents linked to the Central Intelligence Agency referenced a mission examining Martian terrain.
Former agent Joe McMoneagle described massive pyramid-like structures, including one with “monster rooms.”
Not everyone is convinced. Avi Loeb, a scientist at Harvard University, said the formation could have a natural explanation.
“We know that Mars had lakes, rivers, oceans of water, liquid water,” he said. “So you could get shapes like that.”
He also pushed back on comparisons to Egyptian pyramids, noting, “they are made of stones, the blocks that you don’t see in this image.”
“If I were to see that, then I would obviously say it’s a construction.”
Still, the debate continues, with some calling for closer inspection of the mysterious structure to determine whether it’s a trick of nature — or something far more extraordinary.
