[TRANSCRIPT] – “I am here today to present the 2026 Annual Threat Assessment, joined by the Directors of the CIA, DIA, FBI and NSA.

This briefing is being provided in accordance with ODNI’s statutory responsibility and represents the Intelligence Community’s assessment of the threats facing U.S. citizens, our Homeland, and our interests.

As President Trump’s National Security Strategy highlights, America is blessed with an enviable geostrategic position, unparalleled assets, resources and a military second to none. Intelligence remains among our sharpest tools in protecting our interests and informing our policymakers and decisionmakers on key national security concerns.

In this assessment, we are following the structure of priorities laid out in the National Security Strategy, starting with threats to our Homeland, then shifting to global risks.

The defense of our Homeland is of utmost importance to the American people. Putting America first means committing to an unrelenting vigilance in service of our own citizens, borders, and communities. Recent efforts to bolster Homeland defense have yielded significantly positive results, but challenges persist.

For example, President Trump’s strict enforcement of U.S. policies at the U.S. Mexico border and regionally has served as a deterrent and drastically reduced illegal immigration. Based on Customs and Border Patrol data, January 2026’s monthly encounters are down 83.8% compared to January 2025. Encounters declined 79% compared to 2024.

The drivers of migration are likely to continue. Potential worsening instability in countries like Cuba and Haiti risk triggering migration surges. Smugglers who often operate as transnational criminal organizations view chaos as an opportunity for profit and will look to continue to profit from illegal immigration flows.

Transnational criminal organizations continue to pose a daily and direct threat to the health and safety of millions of U.S. citizens primarily by producing and trafficking in illegal drugs.

Under President Trump’s leadership, fentanyl overdose deaths have seen a 30 percent decrease from September 2024 to September 2025.

Fentanyl potency has also decreased, likely due to disruptions to the production supply chain.

U.S. efforts to work with China and India to halt the flow of fentanyl precursor chemicals to North America are demonstrating improvement, but there is more work to be done as there are still tens of thousands of fentanyl-related deaths in America every year.

President Trump’s aggressive efforts to more directly and actively target TCOs and reduce the inflow of fentanyl precursors has already had a significant impact which is likely to continue. (continue reading – pdf)

Karoline Leavitt Confirms President Trump China Trip Indefinitely Postponed

This is very interesting because Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer went to Paris last weekend to meet with their Chinese counterparts and organize the deliverables for the upcoming summit between Chairman Xi Jinping and President Trump.

At roughly the same moment that Bessent and Greer were meeting with China, President Trump sent out the Truth Social message requesting Chinese ships to come to the Strait of Hormuz and escort their oil. I said at the time of Trump’s message that Chairman Xi was going to have to negotiate through this issue carefully because it was very obvious that President Trump was not going to maintain any diplomatic pretenses when he met with Chairman Xi.

Yesterday, during the St Patrick’s Day celebration President Trump said the summit was cancelled. “We’re resetting the meeting and it looks like it’ll take place in about five weeks,” President Trump told reporters in the Oval Office in an event with Micheál Martin, the Irish prime minister.

Today, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed there is no scheduled replacement date for the cancelled summit.

Trump effectively shut down the agency in 2025, with most sometimes-reluctant Republicans senators, including Graham, acknowledging the agency could use reform.

But before Trump’s decisive action, tens of millions of taxpayer dollars appropriated by Congress to USAID landed inside the pockets of terrorist organizations – willfully or intentionally, it isn’t clear – including Al Qaeda.

That shocking sumincludes millions of dollars funneled to the coffers of Hamas, the terror organization that plays a central role in the instability and chaos in the Middle East regionand whose threats of terror were used by the U.S. to justify the Iran strikes of February 28.

USAID-Funded Hamas Threatening American War Aims

Flush with American cash,Hamas is now a growing factor in Iranian resistanceto American dominance, threatening to prolong and escalate the war.

Hamas encouraged Iran to “activate all fronts” against American-led resistance in a letter sent to the regime’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

Graham Defended USAID Despite Troubling Evidence

The warning signs of USAID’s contributions to terrorists were there, for those willing to look.

Yet while Graham was cheerleading the continued funneling of billions in taxpayer dollars to the rogue agency, the Senate was MIA on its constitutional role of oversight, leaving the House of Representatives to carry the rucksack.

China Offers Energy Security if Taiwan Accepts ‘Reunification’

China’s Taiwan Affairs Office on Wednesday made a public offer of energy stability for Taiwan if it would agree to “reunification,” or peacefully submitting to rule by the Chinese Communist Party.

“We are willing to provide Taiwan compatriots with stable and reliable energyand resource security, so that they may live better lives,” said Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Chen Binhua.

Chen argued that “peaceful reunification” would give Taiwan the benefit of a “strong motherland” to secure its energy supplies.

“The removal of barriers between the two sides of the straitwill ensure the smooth flow of resources,” he purred. “The mainland’s abundant power supply is more than sufficient to meet the electricity needs of Taiwan’s companies and can ensure that households across the island are freed from the inconvenience and worries of power shortages and outages during peak seasons.”

The occasion ofChina’s latest effort to sell “reunification” to the Taiwanese was, of course, the war in Iran. Asian countries have traditionally obtained a great deal of their oil and natural gas through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran is attempting to blockade by attacking civilian ships.

China is arguably the country suffering the most from the Strait of Hormuz crisis, although there have been persistent rumors that Iran is finding ways to ship oil to its biggest customers in Beijing, using “dark fleet” tankers that have deactivated their transponders.

China is so concerned about shortages that it banned fuel exports of gas, diesel, and jet fuel until at least the end of March,which seems like an inconvenient detail for Beijing’s promise of fuel security for Taiwan in exchange for undying fealty.

Chen contended that, even before the Iran war, Taiwan sometimes struggled to get the fuel it needed shipped to the island, leaving it with chronic shortages and price spikes.His offer to help smooth out Taiwan’s energy system was part of a push for peaceful reunificationBeijing has been conducting over the past year, with various officials seeking to convince Taipei that rich economic rewards would flow from accepting Beijing’s rule voluntarily.

The South China Morning Post (SCMP) on Wednesday highlighted an October speech by Wang Huning, chair of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC),that was laced with all manner of sweetenersfor Taiwan to accept a reunification deal, including energy security, improved foreign relations, superior economic development, and even a richer “cultural life” for the Taiwanese people.

So far, there has been scarcely a nibble on China’s well-baited hook. Taiwanese officials gave assurances in early March that they had contingency plans for a prolonged conflict in Iran to ensure that “domestic gas supply will absolutely not be interrupted.”

On Wednesday, Taiwanese President William Lai Ching-tegave assurances that energy supplies for the next two monthshave been secured, thanks to a “diversified and multi-source strategic ​approach to energy imports” that includes increased gas purchases from the United States.

Taipei said on Monday that retail prices for diesel and gas would be unchanged for at least another week, as the state would absorb any extra costs that might otherwise have been passed along to consumers. The government is also hoping to keep electricity prices stable through the end of next month.

Miguel Díaz-Canel, the communist figurehead “president” of Cuba, on Tuesdaythreatened that any “external aggressor” to the Cuban regime will be met with an “unbreakable resistance” after President Donald Trump said “we’ll be doing something with Cuba very soon.”

For over six decades, the disastrous communist policies of the Castro regime have forced Cubans to live through inhumane conditions of abject misery.The situation in Cuba has dramatically worsened in recent weeks after the rogue communists abruptly lost access to the virtually free oilit had been receiving for decades from the Venezuelan socialist regime following the United States’ arrest of dictator Nicolás Maduro on January 3, 2026.

The developing situation — further exacerbated by an increase in powerblackouts and widespread shortages of food and other supplies — has led to a surge in daily anti-communists protests across several Cuban provinces in recent days. In one of the more dramatic displays, a group of protesters set fire to the local headquarters of the Cuban Communist Party in in Morón, Ciego de Ávila, on Saturday.

On Monday,Cuba’s derelict and barely functional power grid collapsed yet again, leading to another nationwide blackout that, at press time, has not been fully resolved.

In a brief statement published by the Cuban regime outlet Cubadebate onTuesday, Díaz-Canel claimed that the United States allegedly threatens Cuba “almost daily with overthrowing the constitutional order by force” and intends to take over the country under the “pretext” of what he described as Cuba’s “weakened economy.”

“They [the United States] claim and announce plans to take over the country, its resources, its property,and even the very economy they seek to strangle in order to force us to surrender,” the statement read in part.

He did not attribute any responsibility for Cuba’s precarious — and decades-old — situation to the disastrous communist policies of the Castro regime but,instead, claimed that the United States has “attacked” and sought to “isolate” Cuba, referencing the U.S. “embargo” on the rogue communist regime.

“This is the only way to explain the fierce economic war being waged as collective punishment against the entire people,” Díaz-Canel wrote. “Faced with the worst-case scenario,Cuba is guided by one certainty: any external aggressor will face unbreakable resistance.”

The figurehead “president”also published a copy of his statement on social media.

Díaz-Canel published the message after President Trump told reporters at the White House on Tuesday that Cuba is in “very bad shape.” Trump, after pointing out that Cuba is talking to U.S. Secretary of State MarcoRubio, added, “we’ll be doing something with Cuba very soon.”

Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) appeared before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Wednesday for his confirmation hearing to serve as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), whereSen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) asked him to recount a personal story involving his sonas part of a discussion about leadership qualities including integrity, commitment to the nation’s security, maintaining a strong relationship with the president, andproviding insight into his loyalty to President Donald Trump.

Mullin began by describing how his son, whom he called “a really world-class athlete,” suffered a severe brain injury on January 17, 2020. Mullin said, “We almost lost him. For 26 hours, he had an extremely low pulse. There was a time they thought that they lost his pulse altogether, and when he woke up, he was just different.”

He detailed the extent of the recovery process, stating that his son “couldn’t touch his nose,” “couldn’t walk without shuffling his feet,” and “had short term memory loss,” adding that he “had to learn how to read, walk, everything.” Mullin also said that, at the time, his son was in high school and “couldn’t add five plus three.”

According to Mullin,Donald Trump contacted him after learning about the injury. “The president found out about it, and he gave me a call immediately,” Mullin said, adding that Trump “called almost every day for two weeks, checking on Jim.”

Mullin testified that his family sought treatment at the Center for Neural Skills in Bakersfield, California, describing it as “one of the best neural rehabilitation places in the world.”He said the president offered the use of a personal plane, though Mullin declined, explaining, “Sir, we can’t fly. We got to drive.”

He further stated that Trump later visited his son during the 2020 election period, noting, “This is the middle of the election. This is Bakersville, California, really not an area he’s got to go campaign. He took the time to come up there and see Jim.”

Mullin said that during the visit, Trump spent extended time with his son, recalling that whenstaff urged the president to leave, “he says,‘Hey, I guarantee you that plane won’t leave without me,’”and that “over the next 15 minutes, he did nothing but love on my son.”

Mullin connected the visit to improvements in his son’s recovery, stating, “That one incident jogged his memory, and from then on, he started retaining things,” and that his son’s attitude changed to “I’m going to get through it.”

He added that Trump continued to check in regularly, saying, “Every week, if not most days, the president would call and ask how he could help,” and emphasized, “He didn’t do it for publicity. He didn’t do it for any show.”

Mullin also described a later visit to Mar-a-Lago, where he said the president spoke directly to his son, recounting, “He grabbed my son and he said, ‘Do you know why I love your dad? … because he loves you.’”

Concluding his remarks, Mullin said,“He didn’t do it for any other reason. I mean, here’s the president of the United States, and he did it just because he cared. We were acquaintances before that. We’ve been friends ever since.”

Sarandos added that he also spoke to Trump about the president’s past dallianceswith a tariff on foreign film productsand that he “hopefully talked to [Trump] the way out” of the tariff idea.

The CEO was a bit amazed at the press attention the meeting received, too.

“There was paparazzi outside of the White House waiting for me when I came out,” Sarandos said. “I’ve never experienced that before.”

Sarandos also told Politico that he had no indication that Trump had spoken to or worked with Paramount’ chief David Ellison as the latter continued his efforts to outbid Netflix to pick up ownership of Warners.

Report: FBI Investigating Joe Kent Over Alleged Leak of Classified Info

Former director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) Joe Kent is reportedly being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)for “allegedly leaking classified information.”

Shelby Talcott, a White House Correspondent for Semafor,reported that according to “three sources,” Kent, who resigned from his position on Tuesday, is being investigated by the FBI. The alleged investigation “pre-dates his departure.”

In another post, Talcott said,“a fourth source” also confirmed this.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Kent shared that he had “decided to resign” from his position, explaining that he could not “in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran.”

“Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby,” Kent continued.

In a letter addressed to President Donald Trump, Kent clarified that he supported “the values and the foreign policies” that Trump “campaigned on in 2016, 2020, 2024.”

“Until June of 2025, you understood that the wars in the Middle East were a trap that robbed America of the precious lives of our patriots and depleted the wealth and prosperity of our nation,” Kent continued.

In response to Kent’s resignation, Trump expressed that it was “a good thing” he resigned and described Kent as being “very weak on security.”

“I read his statement,” Trump said. “I always thought he was a nice guy, but I always thought he was weak on security, very weak on security. I didn’t know him well.”

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) is now openly calling for Republicans to ram the SAVE America Act through reconciliation, a legislative maneuver that would allow passage with just 50 votes plus the Vice President.

Budget reconciliation is a special parliamentary process in the U.S. Senate that allows for the expedited passage of legislation regarding spending, revenue, or the debt limit, requiring only a simple majority (51 votes or 50 + Vice President) rather than the 60 votes usually needed to overcome a filibuster.

Created by the Congressional Budget Act of 1974, this process is limited to budget-related matters and cannot be used for general policy changes.

Although under the “Byrd Rule,” provisions must have a direct impact on the budget. “Extraneous” items that do not significantly impact spending or revenue are forbidden and can be stripped out.

Kennedy’s remarks come as frustration boils over among conservatives who have watched the critical election integrity bill stall despite growing national concern over voter confidence and election security.

Kennedy laid out the battle plan in crystal-clear terms:

Now, you know how reconciliation works, Mr. President. It means we can pass this bill with 50 Republican votes and the Vice President to break the tie. That’s how we passed the one big, beautiful bill. I would hope to get some of my Democratic friends to support us, but we don’t have to have them.

That’s harder than I described because, as you know, Mr. President, there are parameters on reconciliation.

Anything you propose through reconciliation has to be paid for. We can find the money to pay for it. And anything you pass through reconciliation has to conform with the contours of the Budget Control Act. We call that giving a provision a “birdbath.”

And our parliamentarian decides what passes muster under the Budget Control Act and what doesn’t.

Now, we’ve got a lot of smart lawyers in the United States Senate. Every single one of them thinks they’re ‘Oliver Wendell Scalia.’

But we’ve got a lot of other smart lawyers in America. Here’s what I’m getting at: we have yet to try going to these smart lawyers—some in the Senate and some, believe it or not, not in the Senate—and saying, “Craft us a SAVE Act that will pass muster under the Budget Control Act and can be blessed by the parliamentarian.”

And some of my colleagues—those ‘Oliver Wendell Scalia types’—they say, “Kennedy, you know you’ll never be able to do that.”

They don’t know. I’ve been here 10 years. I’ve seen things pass muster—survive a birdbath—that I didn’t think had a hope in hell. And I’ve seen provisions fail the parliamentarian’s judgment under a birdbath that I thought were slam dunks.

You don’t know until you try, and we haven’t tried. And if this bill is as important as everybody says it is—and I think it is—because we’re not just talking about voting, we’re talking about the confidence, the trust of the American people in our elections— If this bill is as important as we say it is, we should try it through reconciliation.”
