Legendary Actor Val Kilmer To Star In Movie After His Death

3/18/26

Legendary Hollywood star Val Kilmer died in 2025 — but he’s also appearing in a brand new film despite never having shot a single scene.

Director Coerte Voorhees cast Kilmer as Father Fintan, a Catholic priest and Native American spiritualist, in “As Deep as the Grave” five years before he passed, according to Variety. The actor was unable to shoot scenes as he was too sick with throat cancer to appear on-set.

Utilizing a combination of images showing Kilmer— many coming from his relatives —and video from his last years, his character was brought to life. The audio also features Kilmer’s voice, damaged by a tracheal procedure in his later years.

“He was the actor I wanted to play this role,” Voorhees said, according to Variety.

“It was very much designed around him. It drew on his Native American heritage and his ties to and love of the Southwest. I was looking at a call sheet the other day, and we had him ready to shoot. He was just going through a really, really tough time medically, and he couldn’t do it.”

Kilmer’s daughter Mercedes and the late actor’s estategave the nod for Voorhees to use state-of-the-art generative AI to bring Kilmer to life on the big screen, according to Variety. The director also said Kilmer’s son Jack gave his support to the decision.

“His family kept saying how important they thought the movie was and that Val really wanted to be a part of this,” Voorhees told Variety.

“He really thought it was [an] important story that he wanted his name on. It was that support that gave me the confidence to say, okay let’s do this.Despite the fact some people might call it controversial, this is what Val wanted.”

“The character in the film also suffers from tuberculosis,” John Vorhees, the film’s producer and brother to the director, said.

“Again, this historical character mirrored Val’s actual condition when he was suffering from throat cancer. And so when it comes to the voice this is a really unique opportunity for the character to reflect the condition that the actor was actually suffering from, thus creating a kind of a bridge.”

The film is an indie production that suffered tremendously during COVID lockdowns that stretched production to a span of six years.

“Normally we would just recast an actor. I’m all about working with our actors, and we have brilliant performances all throughout this movie. But we can’t roll camera again. We don’t have the budget. We’re not a big studio film. So we had to think of innovative ways to do it. And we realized the technology is there for us,” Coerte Voorhees told Variety.

Voorhees and the producer of the film argued their use of AI was ethical, asserting that the production was rooted in the Screen Actors Guild’s guidelines and Kilmer’s estate was paid for his appearance, according to Variety.

Speaking of Kilmer, Mercedes said her father “always looked at emerging technologies with optimism as a tool to expand the possibilities of storytelling.”

“This spirit is something that we are all honoring within this specific film, of which he was an integral part,” she said, according to Variety.

Larijani’s death is more significant than that of supreme leader. 1/2

Tue, March 17, 2026 at 5:19 PM EDT

Just before Iran’s supreme leader was killed in an air strike on the opening day of the war, an Iranian official dropped a clue as to who really held the power behind the scenes.

“He is one of the very few people who can still meet the leader and has been given the job of rescuing the system,” the official told The Telegraph.

The man he was talking about was Ali Larijani, Iran’s national security chief. Larijani is now dead, Iran has confirmed, the latest of the senior leadership chain to have been assassinated – and perhaps the most important so far.

The killing of Larijani is fundamentally different from the strike that killed Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader. Khamenei was the head of the Iranian state, the religious authority and the constitutional commander-in-chief.

Larijani, meanwhile, was the man who made the system work. He was thought to have been the de facto leader of Iran since June last year, and was one of the only proper diplomats the Islamic Republic had had in decades.

His official job involved managing the flow of information between institutions, coordinating diplomatic channels, suppressing factional infighting, and implementing controlled succession to prevent the system from fragmenting into competing power centres.

It was a role he honed during 30 years of building knowledge as culture minister, state broadcasting chief for 10 years, secretary of the supreme national security council, parliamentary speaker for 12 years, and, most recently, as Khamenei’s personal envoy to Vladimir Putin, the Russian president.

Last month, an Iranian official said: “He is officially running everything here.”

The question now becomes whether anyone else in Iran possesses the institutional knowledge, the trust, and the practical understanding of governance required to hold the system together.

The evidence suggests the answer is no.

He gave hardliners cover to make compromises

Iran’s Islamic Republic was designed as a complex system of overlapping institutions with deliberately competing power centres. It required constant coordination from the supreme leader’s office to function coherently.

The president runs the civilian government but answers to the supreme leader. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps controls much of the economy and security apparatus but is theoretically subordinate to the supreme leader’s authority.

The Assembly of Experts selects the supreme leader but exists at his pleasure. The Guardian Council vets candidates for elected office based on criteria the supreme leader defines.

This structure was meant to prevent any single institution from accumulating enough power to challenge the supreme leader while ensuring that nothing could function without his coordination.

The system’s weakness is that it requires someone who understands all these moving parts and can make them work together.

Larijani’s intimate knowledge of this cannot be transferred quickly or easily replaced. He knew which clerics in Qom wielded real influence, versus those with impressive titles but little power.

He had spent decades building relationships with Russian officials, Chinese diplomats and regional powers. He knew how to structure negotiations to give hardliners cover for accepting compromises.

When Qassim Soleimani was killed in 2020, Iran replaced the leader of the elite Quds Force with Esmail Ghaani. When nuclear scientists are killed, new scientists can be trained.

But there is no mechanism for replacing the person who knows how to make the entire system work together, because that role was never formalised or even acknowledged.

The question facing Iran now is not whether individual institutions can survive – they can – but whether the system as a whole can function without the people who understood how to coordinate it.

Although Iran is more exposed than ever, the killing of Larijani does not necessarily portend an end of the war. It has a new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not been seen for weeks. But the assassination of Larijani leaves Iran without anyone to credibly negotiate with the US.

He was the only figure trusted by both Iranian hardliners and foreign governments to structure agreements. This may suit Israelis who want the Islamic Republic to fall, but those looking for a quick way out of a war that is triggering a global energy crisis may be disappointed.

Iran Claims World Cup Players Are ‘Unsafe’ in U.S., Demands Games be Moved to Mexico

Warner Todd Huston18 Mar

(Meanwhile they kill their own woman in Iran and 1,000s of others in war. Freaks!)

Iran claims that its players will be “unsafe” if they play their World Cup matches in the U.S. this year and they want their games moved to drug cartel-infested Mexico.

The demand comes on the heels of President Trump’s comments last week that Iran was welcome to participate in the World Cup, even though he had launched a targeted military action to take out Iran’s terror-supporting Mullah regime. But even though he welcomed Team Iran to the World Cup, he added that maybe it would be a better idea for Iran to pull out of the World Cup for “their own life and safety.”

The Iran National Soccer Team is welcome to The World Cup, but I really don’t believe it is appropriate that they be there, for their own life and safety,” he wrote in a post on Truth Social on March 12.

The president’s Truth Social post sparked the fear that he could not guarantee Team Iran’s safety.

“When Trump has explicitly stated that he cannot ensure the security of the Iranian national team, we will certainly not travel to America,” Iranian football President Mehdi Taj said in a statement, according to USA Today.

Thus far FIFA has not addressed Iran’s concerns, and said in a statement they they are “in regular contact with all participating member associations” and are “looking forward to all participating teams competing as per the match schedule announced on 6 December 2025.”

However, Mexican president Claudia Schienbaum did release a statement saying they would be happy to host any of the games Team Iran is scheduled to play. Still, it isn’t clear how easy it would be for FIFA to restructure the tournament to accommodate the move.(oh yes Mexico is much safer!)

The World Cup is scheduled to star on June3 11 and will be help in Mexico, the U.S., and Canada.

Drones over base where Rubio, Hegseth live raise security concerns

Story by Isaac Arnsdorf, Tara Copp • 3/18/26

U.S. officials detected unidentified drones above the Washington Army base where Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth live, according to three people briefed on the situation. Officials have not determined where they came from, two of the people said.

The military is monitoring potential threats more closely because of the heightened alert level as the United States and Israel strike Iran, according to a senior administration official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive security matters. Multiple drones were spotted over Fort Lesley J. McNair on a single night in the last 10 days, the official said, prompting increased security measures and a meeting at the White House to discuss how to respond.

The drone sightings in Washington come as the U.S. issued a global security alert for overseas diplomatic posts and locked down several domestic bases because of threats. This week, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and MacDill Air Force Base in Florida raised their force protection level to Charlie — a designation that means the commander has intelligence indicating an attack or danger is possible. The only higher alert level, Delta, is for when an attack has occurred or is anticipated.

The drones over Fort McNair prompted officials to weigh relocating Rubio and Hegseth, two of the people briefed said. The senior administration official said the secretaries haven’t moved. Their quarters on the base were publicly reported by multiple outlets in October.

Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell declined to discuss the drones.“The department cannot comment on the secretary’s movements for security reasons, and reporting on such movements is grossly irresponsible,” he said.

The State Department did not respond to requests for comment.

Twice this week officials locked down facilities at MacDill Air Force Base, home to U.S. Central Command, which is responsible for U.S. military operations against Iran. The FBI is now investigating a suspicious package that closed the base’s visitors center for hours Monday, and on Wednesday an unspecified security incident left the base under a shelter-in-place order for hours, the base said in a statement.

“To ensure the safety and security of our people and the mission, commanders adjust their installation’s security posture in accordance with local threat assessments,” an Air Force spokesperson said in a statement.

On Tuesday, the State Department ordered all U.S. diplomatic posts worldwide to “immediately” undertake security evaluations, citing “the ongoing and developing situation in the Middle East and the potential for spillover effects,” according to a cable reviewed by The Washington Post.

Fort McNair houses the National Defense University and some of the Pentagon’s most senior military officials. The base has not traditionally housed political leaders, but a growing number of Trump officials, including outgoing Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem, have moved onto area bases, citing security concerns.

McNair is conveniently located close to Capitol Hill and the White House. But it does not have the same safety buffer as other bases in the capital region.

Similar drone threats surfaced surrounding President Donald Trump and other top officials in recent years as Iranian leaders sought revenge for the U.S. strike that killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in 2020, according to U.S. officials spanning both the Trump and Biden administrations.

During the 2024 presidential campaign, the Secret Service detail protecting Trump’s team repeatedly encountered unidentified drones, including during a news conference in Los Angeles and a motorcade ride through rural western Pennsylvania. That September, officials told Trump that Iran wanted to kill him and had multiple kill teams in the country, and while there was no evidence linking Iran to either of the assassination attempts that year, they could not rule out a connection.

Chile Starts Building a Wall on Peru Border to Stop Illegal Migrants

Christian K. Caruzo18 Mar

The recently inaugurated administration of Chilean conservative President José Antonio Kast this week began construction of a wall along Chile’s border with Peru to crack down on illegal migration.

Kast is a hardline conservative who obtained a sweeping nationwide victory in the December 2025 presidential runoff election, successfully running on a campaign mainly focused on stopping illegal migration, carrying out mass deportations, and cracking down on rampant crime in Chile. Kast took office on March 11, succeeding leftist former President Gabriel Boric, who defeated Kast in the 2021.

Kast has also expressed his intention to align Chile closer to the United States, joining President Donald Trump’s “Shield of the Americas” regional security initiative days before he took office and signing a joint statement with the U.S. towards a potential critical minerals and rare earth elements deal between both countries.

In the first hours of his administration, President Kast signed an executive decree establishing a “national policy of border closure” while granting additional facilities to the police and military in the fight against human and other types of trafficking.

On Monday, Kast visited the Chacalluta Border Complex in the northernmost region of Arica y Parinacota, which neighbors Peru, to conduct an on-site inspection of the construction works for a physical border barrier that will be built by the Chilean military as part of Kast’s “Border Shield” illegal migrant crackdown plan alongside the excavation of trenches along the border.

“We want to use these backhoes to build a sovereign Chile. That sovereign Chile has been undermined by illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and organized crime,” Kast said. “Today we are closing that window that for years allowed people to enter the country illegally.”

Infobae reported Tuesday that Kast’s visit officially marked the start of the border barrier construction, with heavy machinery excavation works beginning just a few meters from the border and a military deployment of 600 troops, more than double the usual amount deployed in the area. According to Infobae, initial construction efforts are focused on marking the trench’s boundaries with red flags.

Chilean outlets detailed that Kast’s “Border Shield” plan calls for the construction of 30 kilometers of trenches within 90 days in the regions of Arica and Parinacota, Antofagasta, and Tarapacá. The yet-to-be built border barriers will reportedly be five meters tall and will be equipped with sensors, electrified fences, and towers with thermal radar.

Interior Minister Claudio Alvarado reportedlyexplained that the Chilean government estimates that there are about 90 unauthorized border crossing spots, so the number of immigration checkpoints at the northern border will increase from 50 to 75 in the coming days.

“That increased oversight will help reduce the flow of people entering our country,” Alvarado explained, and added that the current goal is to “reach a significant length of trench excavation.”

The works, the Minister said, “will be supplemented by other physical infrastructure projects that will allow for the construction of barriers at various unregulated crossing points — based on geographical characteristics — to stem these irregular migration flows.”

You can rest assured, and the Chilean people can be confident, that the government will handle this properly so that the outcome of these efforts will significantly reduce irregular migration,” the minister said.

As part of the Kast administration’s efforts to crackdown on illegal migration, Frank Sauerbaum, the new director of Chile’s National Migration Service, announced that the Chilean government will seek to investigate and penalize companies that hire illegal migrants in the country.

“Someone is about to start working at Company X. The labor inspector asks that person — who is an immigrant — for their contract, and everything is in order; they’re paying their contributions, but they’re working illegally in Chile because, these days, working illegally is allowed in Chile,” Sauerbaum said.

“When we don’t penalize employers who hire undocumented workers — simply because they’re paying the required contributions — there’s obviously a perverse incentive, because people know that they come to Chile and they’ll be given a job anyway,” he added.

The Minister also called on Chilean society to reach a consensus and put measures to ensure that there is no “perverse incentive” for illegal migrants to enter the country and obtain non-contributory social benefits “as is the case in the northern region, where the healthcare system has completely collapsed and, for example, childcare facilities are also overwhelmed.”

=•Retired US general calls for 'thunder runs' in Strait of Hormuz==

Retired Lt Gen Keith Kellogg called for maximum-effort US naval and air escorts to clear Iranian missiles, drones and mines from the Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes, comparing the operation to past “thunder runs” in Baghdad and Operation Earnest Will to test and defeat resistance.

“Put aircraft above this shipping lane. You have escort ships go there as well. Get a couple ships through there, and you’re good to go," he told NewsMax on Wednesday.

“The first couple of times you’re going to get some type of hostile action… there’s risk… but we have the capacity and the capability to punch through there," he added. “It’s sort of like what we did in Baghdad… after about the third or fourth thunder run, it was pretty easy.”

"I hate to say it, but it's, you know, kind of, my son told me, kind of telling your chief, it's sort of like Whack a Mole. Everyone is there. You just kill them. And I was asked that today on another program, just have to kill them all, and sooner or later, they get a break. You know, you start at a very senior level. You keep working your way down, and finally you're gonna have people say, I want to do the job," former 82nd Airborne commander said.

(This is the old war horse shouting kill them all! Always on Fox and Newsmax)
