It's not DEI - this is planned.

It appears the gov of CA wants to find out where the money is. They don't necessarily know who the billionaires are. But if they have all CA residents file a list of all their assets, then they know where the money is. Their 5% confisaction won't be limited to "billionaires". They will expand it to EVERYONE.

[COMPLETE LOSS OF PRIVACY. This would make everyone in the state of CA calculate and report their actual net worth. All your money, stuff, cars, houses, investments, crypto and cash, etc. need to be appraised. Then the government takes 5% of the value of everything you own. If you don't have the cash to cover the lien, tough. Sell shit to raise money.]

The Left isn’t as united as they pretend to be. And now the cracks can’t be ignored.

Sen. Bernie Sanders recently headlined a fiery rally in Los Angeles, throwing his full weight behind California’s proposed “Billionaire Tax” ballot measure.

“Never before in American history have we seen the kind of greed, arrogance and moral turpitude,” while framing the moment as one where “our country [must] finally confront a grotesque level of income and wealth inequality.”

The California Billionaire Tax Act, set for the 2026 ballot, would levy a one-time 5% tax on the net worth of the state’s billionaires, aiming to generate roughly $100 billion over five years. Supporters argue it would fund healthcare, public education, and food security programs.

Polls show about 60% of likely California voters favor a wealth tax in principle, even while acknowledging it risks job losses and economic flight—hardly a ringing endorsement when the real-world consequences hit.

"Income" is NOT assets. How about you own your mother's house and estate in another state. That is potentially taxable under the 5% confiscation of wealth. They can make you sell it to get the cash to pay their tax.

Assets don't necessarily produce income.

Does your car give you an income? It's part of your net worth and has to be on the asset list.

Does your house pay you a salary that is reported on your tax return? However, it can be assessed at full market price and you may pay a 5% wealth tax on the property.

You may even have to sell your house to be able to pay the wealth tax on the house if you don't have enough cash in the bank.

Oah - cash in the bank! They want to know how much cash you have. They don't ordinarily know that. They also don't know what you have in crypto. But they want you to make a list and they will know everything you have.

Good luck CA.

Just to be clear…your WEALTH is not listed on your tax returns. It can't even be calculated by reading your returns.

The state of CA wants YOU to make a list of everything you own that is worth something, regardless of what it is or where it is.

The original article said that 60% of California voter will vote for a "wealth tax". (I don't believe their number, but that doesn't matter.) The extrapolation is that voters in California are so petty and stupid that they will vote for a complete lack of privacy and confiscation of their wealth just because IT ISN'T THEM BEING TAXED. IT's THE RICH PEOPLE.
