Attempting to use computers to create and enforce 1:1 artificial versions of real world systems exposes deficiencies of policy makers, and pushes intelligent people to the fringes as they lose faith in those making important decisions.
Using math (through finance) as an unbiased arbiter for social cohesion made sense within the context of the time and place which it was created. It is not unbiased, however, and rather replaces human biases with inhuman biases. Taken to the logical extreme it ends up consuming humanity in an attempt to erase all uncertainty from the systems with which it is tasked to govern.
