US officials detected unidentified drones above an army base in Washington where US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth live, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing three people briefed on the situation.
The officials have not determined where the drones came from, the report said, citing two of the sources.
But the drones’ detection comes as the US military is monitoring potential threats more closely because of a heightened alert level over the US-Israeli war with Iran, the report said. Since the beginning of the war on February 28, Iran has retaliated with missile and drone barrages at Israel and countries across the region.
The drones’ sighting over Fort McNair prompted officials to weigh relocating Rubio and Hegseth, the report said. However, the secretaries have not moved, the report added, citing a senior administration official.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the incident, said it occurred within the past 10 days, and that multiple drones were detected on the same night.
According to the report, officials locked down facilities twice this week at another base, the MacDill Air Force Base, home to US Central Command, which is responsible for US military operations against Iran, due to a suspicious package and an unspecified incident.

The clearest recent example appeared in a Mehr News Agency report published this week, which said the confrontation with Israel extends beyond military, cyber, diplomatic, and cognitive fronts to what it called a “war of occult sciences.” The rhetoric echoes earlier material preserved on Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s official website, where Iran’s enemies are described as coming from among both “jinn and humans.”
Occult language enters the public line
The Mehr article did not present evidence for supernatural warfare. It used the term as part of a broader description of what it called a multidimensional struggle against Israel, alongside military, cyber, diplomatic, and psychological fronts.
That language fits a wider pattern in the Islamic Republic’s messaging. In a March 2020 speech later highlighted on his official website, Khamenei said Iran faced enemies from among both “jinn and humans,” adding that foreign security services work together against the Islamic Republic.
Khamenei’s site expanded the theme
The motif was later expanded in a follow-up interview published on Khamenei’s website. In that interview, Ayatollah Ahmad Abedi said “the Jews, and in particular the Zionists” pursue metaphysical matters extensively and asserted that Mossad engages in such practices as well.
The remark gave ideological cover to a line that has since resurfaced in regime-linked commentary. It also helps explain why conspiratorial claims about sorcery, talismans, and supernatural manipulation continue to appear in Iranian discourse during periods of stress and confrontation.
Fars commentary framed the conflict as a hidden spiritual struggle
The motif also appeared in a Fars commentary titled “Invisible battle: Zionist sorcery, Shiite supplication”. The piece described Israel in terms of sorcery, Kabbalah, talismans, and ritual practices, while presenting Shiite prayer and religious devotion as Iran’s answer.
The article read as commentary rather than straight reporting, but it showed how openly such themes can appear on a major regime-linked platform.
The supernatural framing moved beyond abstract theology after the 2025 war. Abdollah Ganji, a senior Tehran figure and former editor of the IRGC-linked daily Javan, claimed that papers bearing what he described as Jewish symbols had been found on the streets of Tehran after the fighting.

Iran Hits Israel’s Haifa Refinery Using Brand New ‘Nasrallah’ Missile
An Iranian missile strike hit Israel’s BAZAN Group refineries in the northern city of Haifa on March 19, in an apparent response to the American-approved Israeli attack that targeted the Islamic Republic’s largest gas field, South Pars, a day earlier.
Energy Minister Eli Cohen said that the strike did not cause “significant damage”, but admitted that power was briefly disrupted.
“The damage to the power grid in the north is localized and not significant,” Cohen said. “Also, in the barrage towards the north, there was no significant damage to Israeli infrastructure sites.”
The IDF attempted to play down the strike by claiming that the impacts at the oil refineries in Haifa were caused by falling fragments following the interception of an Iranian ballistic missile. However, videos posted to social media showed a direct hit and a fairly large fire at the center of the facility.
The Haifa refineries are Israel’s largest oil processing facility and a cornerstone of the country’s energy security and industrial economy. They process approximately 197,000 barrels of oil per day, supplying roughly 50–60 percent of domestic fuel in the country.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced later it had targeted refineries in Haifa, and in Ashdod, in the south of Israel, “along with a range of security targets and military support centers of the Zionist regime”, which it said “were hit by pinpoint missiles” in response to the attack on the South Pars field.
The guards noted that a brand new missile system dubbed “Nasrallah” was used in the attacks, describing it as an upgraded version of the Ghadr medium-range ballistic missile, which is also known as Ghadr-110.
The missile is believed to have a liquid-fuel first stage and a solid-fuel second stage, with a range from 1,350 to 1,950 kilometers depending on the version. The missile can carry a warhead weighing from 650 kg to 1000 kg, and is equipped with an advanced satellite-aided inertial navigation system.
The new version of the missile is clearly named after Hassan Nasrallah, secretary-general of the Iran-aligned Hezbollah who was assassinated by Israel in Lebanon in 2024.

Justice Department blocked release of secret Epstein drug probe file, Sen. Ron Wyden says
Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon accused a top Justice Department official of blocking the release of a document related to a secret investigation of drug trafficking and prostitution by Jeffrey Epstein.
Wyden said Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche blocked the release of an unredacted 2015 memorandum prepared by the Justice Department's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces, an entity charged with coordinating complex drug and money laundering investigations across government agencies.
CBS News reported in February that the heavily redacted memo included in the more than 3 million Epstein files released in January shows the convicted sex offender was the subject of a Drug Enforcement Administration probe that stretched at least five years.
Blanche said in a social media post, " A sitting U.S. Senator has completely fabricated a story for clicks. No one is blocking anything." He added that the memo is available to members of Congress "unredacted in our reading room," but Wyden never visited.
The senator responded to Blanche in a series of social media posts, accusing him and Attorney General Pam Bondi of hiding files in a black box, adding, "DOJ is surveilling members of Congress who go to view them."
Wyden wrote in his letter to Blanche on Wednesday that investigators for the Senate Finance Committee were told the DEA was prepared to comply with his request for an unredacted copy of the memo — until Blanche intervened some time during the last three weeks.
"It has come to my attention that you are preventing the Drug Enforcement Administration from producing an unredacted copy of a report I requested regarding drug trafficking and money laundering by Jeffrey Epstein and several associates," Wyden wrote. "Your alleged interference in this matter is highly disturbing."
Wyden added he believes the government had "ample evidence" that Epstein was involved in drug trafficking and "likely pumping his victims, including underage girls, with incapacitating drugs to facilitate abuse."
The redacted document shows the DEA's investigation targeted Epstein and 14 others for suspicious money transfers possibly linked to illegal narcotics. Sources tell CBS News that internal case coding indicates the DEA agents were targeting "club-drugs," which included ketamine, ecstasy and GHB. The document indicates the case was related to the drug MDMA, otherwise known as ecstasy.
