UK Border Chief QUITS as Labour FAIL to slow migrant boat crossings
Martin Hewitt, the head of the UK's Border Security Command, has resigned from his post after failing to curb the number of small boat crossings. Appointed in September 2024 to "smash the gangs," Hewitt’s departure comes as illegal arrivals under the current Labour government exceed 65,000. Critics argue that without a strong removals deterrent or leaving the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), any leader in this role faces a "poison chalice" impossible to fulfil.
