Trump invokes emergency powers with $23 billion in Gulf arms sales as Iran war wages on: WSJ report

PUBLISHED FRI, MAR 20 20263:35 AM EDT

KEY POINTS

• The Trump administration has approved arms sales valued at around $23 billion to the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Jordan, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

• The U.S. would provide air-defense systems, munitions and radar equipment worth more than $16 billion, as well as an additional $7 billion in weapons to the UAE.

• For some of the deals, the government invoked the emergency clause of U.S. arms control law.

The Trump administration has pressed forward with roughly $23 billion in weapons sales to three Gulf nations, moving to bolster their defenses as the Middle East war continued to escalate with no sign of resolution.

The government has approved the arms sales to the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Jordan, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing U.S. officials familiar with the decision.

That included more than $16 billion for air-defense systems, munitions and radar equipment for the three Mideast countries, announced on Thursday, plus an additional $7 billion in weapons to the UAE, according to the report. The latter was approved through channels that do not require public disclosure under U.S. arms export rules, according to the Journal.

The provisional arms sale, aimed at bolstering the Gulf nations’ military capabilities, came as Iran has broadened attacks to several energy infrastructure sites across the region in response to Israeli strikes on its gas facilities this week.

The proposed sale would improve the countries’ capability to “meet current and future threats” and further advance their interoperability with U.S. Joint Forces and other regional forces, the State Department said in the notices.

The administration also expanded certain previously agreed agreements to include the sale of Patriot PAC-3 missiles worth about $5.6 billion and CH-47 Chinook helicopters valued at roughly $1.32 billion, according to the Journal. The U.S. also approved $37 million in Predator XP drone sales and sustainment programs for light aircraft.

For some of the deals, the American government invoked the emergency clause of U.S. arms control law, amechanism that allows the executive branch to proceed without the standard 30-day congressional review period, according to the report.

Zohran Mamdani’s Wife Celebrated Palestinian Terrorists, Including Plane Hijacker, In Social Media Posts From Early Adulthood

Rama Duwaji also boosted a post that said Tel Aviv ‘Shouldn’t exist in the first place’

Jon LevineMarch 18, 2026

New York City's first lady, Rama Duwaji, glorified terrorist violence in a wide range of posts made on social media when she was a teenager and in her early 20s,celebrating members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terror group and the First Intifada,a Washington Free Beaconreview of her old X and Tumblr accounts found.

Duwaji, 28, posted a photo to her Tumblr account in September 2017, when she would have been 20 years old, of the infamous Palestinian terrorist Leila Khaled. Under the username "diimashq," she echoed one of Khaled's most famous statements.

"If it does good for my cause, I'll be happy to accept death," the caption read.

Khaled, a longtime member of the PFLP, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization, participated in plane hijackings in 1969 and 1970. Between the two hijackings, she underwent several cosmetic surgery procedures to disguise her identity. In the 1970 hijacking, Khaled threatened to detonate a grenade unless the pilots let her into the cockpit. Today, she is revered by terrorists and their allies as the first woman to hijack a plane.

Duwaji was in her late teens and early 20s when she made the majority of the posts, and the accounts with which she made them appear to be inactive now. They came at a time when she was living in the Middle East. While she is of Syrian descent, Duwaji spent her early childhood in New Jersey. Her family moved to Dubai in 2006, and Duwaji eventually transferred from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar to the school's Richmond campus.

In the posts, Duwaji celebrated other members of the terrorist PFLP as well. In March 2015, when she was 17, New York City's future first lady reposted a tweet on International Women's Day praising the terrorist Shadia Abu Ghazaleh. It shows a photo of Ghazaleh, a leading PFLP figure who participated in the bombing of an Israeli bus and led several other terrorist attacks, posing with a rifle. She was killed in 1968 when a bomb she was building in her home—which she intended to use to blow up a building in Tel Aviv—exploded accidentally.

The late terrorist is considered a "martyr" in Palestinian society and is the namesake of a school in Gaza.

"shadia abu ghazaleh, first palestinian woman to fight in resistance after 1967 occupation #InternationalWomensDay," the post read

Duwaji posted another photo on her Tumblr account in December 2017, this one showing a keffiyeh-clad Palestinian sewing a flag.

"Photography: 'A Palestinian demonstrator sews a Palestinian Liberation Organization flag before a protest during the first Intifada', February, 1988," the caption reads…

Israel says it struck Iranian targets across region, including in Lebanon

Israel’s Ambassador to the United States said on Thursday that Israeli forces had carried out strikes on Iranian navy vessels in the Caspian Sea and targeted commanders and militants linked to Iran’s operations in Lebanon.

"Over the past 24 hours, we hit Iranian navy boats in the Caspian Sea all the way up in the north, after the American Air Force took out their navy ships in the Gulf area in the south, we hit more Basij checkpoints so there could be more freedom of movement of the Iranians," Ambassador Yechiel (Michael) Leiter posted on X.

"We hit the commander of the Imam Hussein division, who was just on the job for a week. We see more and more of these commanders hesitant and anxious about taking command," he added.

Holy shit, they are even using Shirley’s remarks and method, almost exactly like Shirley does it! Good for them they are doing real crime investigations, finally. But it took a guy outdoing them in crime investigations to make the news which they should have been doing for years. KEK they probably watched all of his videos to get his groove and work down. The guy even whispers etc.

The network should now pay Shirley for their training.

Election 2026

Kat Abughazaleh loses primary election bid for Illinois U.S. House seat

Since the Chicago-area district is drawn to heavily favor Democrats, Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss is all but destined to win the U.S. House seat in the November midterm elections.

Kat Abughazaleh, a 26-year-old political newcomer whose scrappy House campaign slogans “What if we didn’t suck?” and “I’m done waiting for change” reflected a push for new party leadership, has lost her competitive Democratic primary in Illinois’ 9th Congressional District to Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss.

Since the Chicago-area district is drawn to heavily favor Democrats, Biss is all but destined to win the U.S. House seat in the November midterm elections.

Biss was the front-runner for much of the race, with Abughazaleh and state Sen. Laura Fine rounding out the top tier. In the final days of campaigning, Abughazaleh started to close the gap and Fine dropped deeper into third place. Just a week out from the primary, as much as 15 percent of the district’s Democratic electorate remained undecided.

Biss won roughly 30 percent of the district’s Democratic primary electorate, earning about 4,000 more votes, while Fine came in at a distant third, according to Decision Desk HQ. The results tracked polls in the closing weeks of the race.

Speaking to a room full of supporters, Abughazaleh said, “The work isn’t over. There are progressives all over the country who are taking a chance just like we did and we have to help them win, no matter how hard it is. We have to send a message to this administration and anyone who enables them, and I’m talking to them right now: You and your jobs are not safe. This is the start and not the end. We are not tolerating the status quo. You cannot kidnap and kill us and our neighbors. You cannot start illegal wars. You cannot trample on our rights and see our lives as a means for profit. We will continue to come back and every single loss like this one just makes the path easier for the next person who takes the same chance.”

Biss is set to replace retiring Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky, who has held the House seat since 1999.Her longtime tenure inspired Abughazaleh to enter the race on her 26th birthday last year. At the time, Schakowsky had not yet announced her plans to retire. Once she did, Biss, Fine and others entered the race and the field swelled to more than a dozen candidates.

“We’re going to stand up, we’re going to fight,” Biss said in his victory speech. “We will not back down, and we will fight for the progressive values that are the values, not only of this district, but of this whole country.”

Abughazaleh said she decided to challenge Schakowsky because the 2024 presidential election underscored the need for proactive generational change.Abughazaleh was referring to Vice President Kamala Harris replacing President Joe Biden on the ticket, but only at the eleventh hour. The Democrats went on to raise and spend $1.5 billion during a whirlwind campaign, but Harris still ultimately lost to now-President Donald Trump.

When Biden was in power, it was like, ‘Well, we have to keep up a strong front, so you can’t challenge the party.’ And now that Trump’s there, it’s like, ‘Well, we have to show we’re united, so we can’t challenge the party.’ If now is not the time to challenge who is in power, when will there ever be a time?” Abughazaleh told The 19th in an interview last year.

Biss has been the mayor of Evanston, a city of about 75,000 just north of Chicago, since May 2021. Before that, he was a state senator from 2013 to 2019 and a state representative from 2011 to 2013. In 2018, Biss competed in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, finishing behind current Gov. JB Pritzker.

Biss will likely be a reliably progressive-leaning vote in Congress. He wrote in an editorial board interview with the Evanston Round Table that “ICE, as it exists today, must be abolished. No one should be allowed to commit murder with impunity.” He is the grandson of Holocaust survivors and supports putting conditions on U.S. military aid to Israel over its war in Gaza.He has said he will work to reverse Trump and congressional Republicans’ cuts to Medicaid in the “big, beautiful” tax bill they passed last year.

Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders asked to leave from Little Rock restaurant | Here's what we know

A Little Rock restaurant has responded after the office of Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she was told to leave the establishment.

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — A Little Rock restaurant has responded after the office of Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she was told to leave from the establishment.

Sanders said on Friday, March 13, that she joined a group for lunch with two people at The Croissanterie and was accompanied by her State Police Executive Protection Detail, according to a statement provided by the governor's office.

The Croissanterie explained in a written statement that when they were made aware of the governor's presence inside the restaurant, they were "surprised and uncertain how best to respond."They said that since she and her staff were already seated and eating, they chose not to interrupt.

Sanders said that after being seated in the restaurant for over an hour and fifteen minutes and food already paid for, the owner of The Croissanterie approached a member of the protective detail and allegedly asked her to leave because her presence was supposedly “making employees threatened and uncomfortable because of her political views."

The Croissanterie denies any statements "indicating that anyone felt threatened."

Croissanterie staff say that as the presence of the governor and her security detail became more widely noticed by guests and employees alike, questions were raised about them remaining in the building. "As business owners and members of this community, we recognized that any course of action carried consequences."(bizarro especially when there had to be Republican voters there. They’ll have backlash on this stupid move)

In the restaurant's statement, they saidthat allowing her to stay "risked being perceived as a lack of support for the community that makes up" their staff, but also asking Sanders and her team to leave "could be viewed as denying service based on differing beliefs."

NATALIE WINTERS. MAR 20, 2026

EXCLUSIVE: LEFT-WING FOUNDATIONS BANKROLL PUSH TO BRING THE QUR’AN INTO AMERICAN CHURCHES

ROCKEFELLER-LINKED FUNDING AND GRANTS FROM THE COMMUNITIES FOUNDATION OF TEXAS ARE UNDERWRITING THIS CAMPAIGN —ALL FRAMED AS A FIGHT AGAINST “ISLAMOPHOBIA.”

(1/2)

A Chicago-based “interfaith” group is pushing churches toread the Qur’an from the pulpit — and to confront what it calls “Islamophobia in the Church.”

Challenging Islamophobia Together Chicagoland(CITC) has quietly rolled outinitiatives like its “Reading the Qur’an in Churches” campaign, while promoting a broader effort toreshape Christian teachingfrom within. Thepremise is not subtle:

Christianity itself must be re-examined — its theology reconsidered, itstraditions reframed, its posture toward Islam fundamentally reoriented.

But this is not just a local outreach effort.

Behind CITC sits a national advocacy network — the Interfaith Alliance — backed by millions in foundation funding. Public records show that network has drawn support frommajor institutional playersincluding the Henry Luce Foundation, which awarded a $300,000 grant in 2025, as well as the Rockefeller Family Fund , the Collaborative for Gender and Reproductive Equity, and theCommunities Foundation of Texas. In 2023 alone, theInterfaith Alliance Foundation reported roughly $2.87 millionin total revenue, including about $1.4 million in contributions and grants. (Governor Abbott allowed to build their city in TX, and the Americans are pissed because they are basically stealing all the land and homes, and Texans can’t find homes or afford them. The Muslims also buy homes in towns and cities there. Some of the neighborhoods are run by Muslim led HOAs)

What looks like a small, regional interfaith initiative is,in reality, part of a much larger ecosystem, one financed by progressive-aligned philanthropy anddeeply embedded in the political and cultural battles over religion in America.

CITC itself is led by Anna Piela and Michael Woolf, both clergy figures operating within interfaith activism networks. But the structure of the organization makes clearthis is not simply Christian outreach.CITC operates with a Muslim Leadership Councilthat helps guide its priorities, programming, and messaging. As the group explains:

“Having the Muslim Leadership Council helps ensure that our efforts andinitiatives are informed by the lived experiences, concerns, and insights of those directly affected by Islamophobia.

Leaders in Muslim communities can provide valuable perspectives on issues they face, guide the organization’s priorities, and help shape programs and policies to be more effective and culturally relevant.”

That model places Muslim leadership not at the margins, butat the center of how Christian-facing initiatives are developed and executed.

The implications of that structure become clearer when looking at CITC’s programming. One of its most prominent efforts — the “Reading the Qur’an in Churches” campaign — encourages congregations to engage directly with Islamic scripture inside church settings. This is not framed as academic comparison or optional dialogue. It is positioned as a corrective to Christianity itself.

That same visionis formalized in a new book by the group’s leaders,Confronting Islamophobia in the Church: Liturgical Tools for Justice. The summary leaves little ambiguity about the scope of the project:

“Confronting Islamophobia in the Church: Liturgical Tools for Justice challenges Christians to stand up against Islamophobia as an expression of discipleship. Anna Piela and Michael Woolfexpose the Church’s role in fostering anti-Muslim prejudice and equip congregations to dismantle it.Blending sharp history, “holy envy” theology, and ready-to-use resources thatweave Islamic scripture into the lectionary calendar, they make interfaith engagement both practical and transformative.

This is a call to replace fear with solidarity—and to live the Gospel fully in a pluralistic world.

The key phrase is not subtle: “weave Islamic scripture into the lectionary calendar.” This is not simply about understanding Islam — it is about integrating it into the rhythms of Christian worship.

(2/2)

That broader framework has also been articulated publicly by the group’s leaders. In a lecture at Georgetown University discussing the book, they outlined how their approach extends beyond theology into social and political questions. As they put it, “Islamophobia intersects with our immigration crisis and also with anti-blackness,” while also arguing that “soft Islamophobia is saying women have a subservient role.” Their framework draws on the concept of “Holy Envy” and is explicitly positioned as a “theological counterweight to white Christian nationalism.”

In that same discussion, they emphasizedthe role churches can play in reshaping perceptions of Islam, arguing that “Churches are very powerful in being able tosituate Islam not as an other not as a security threat but as a really interestingtheological tradition you ought to know about,” and urgingChristians to “be as generous a reader of the Quran as you are of the Bible.”

That agenda mirrors the priorities of the Interfaith Alliance, which has madeopposition to “Christian nationalism” a central pillar of its work. Through initiativeslike “Democracy Not Theocracy,” the organization frames its mission as combating what it describes as An“authoritarian theocracy” and theinfluence of conservative Christianity in public life. It’s also been involved with high-profile political battles, including opposition to Supreme Court nominees such as Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh, alongside support for Ketanji Brown Jackson.

The through-line is difficult to ignore. Foundation money tied to reproductive policy, “democracy” initiatives, and progressive social causes flows into Interfaith Alliance, which in turn supports affiliates like CITC — groups that are actively working inside churches to redefine how faith is taught and practiced.

What presents itself as alocal campaign against Islamophobiais, in reality, part of a broader effort — one that sits at the intersection of philanthropy, politics, and theology.

And the deeper question is not whether interfaith dialogue is valuable,or whether religious prejudice exists.

It is why a network funded by some of the most prominent institutions in progressive philanthropy is investing in efforts thatgo beyond dialogue— into the terrain of liturgy, doctrine, and theinternal life of the American church.

Because at that point, this is no longer just about tolerance.

It is about transformation.

TWO ‘IRANIAN SPIES’ ARRESTED BY ARMED COPS AFTER TRYING TO BREAK INTO BRITAIN’S NUKE MISSILE BASE

1/2

Updated: 10:48, 20 Mar 2026

TWO suspected Iranian spies have been arrested after attempting to enter Britain’s nuclear missile base.

Armed police swooped on a man, 34, and a woman, 31, outside HMNB Clyde, in Faslane, yesterday.

The top security base is home to the Royal Navy’s nuclear deterrent submarines armed with Trident 2 doomsday missiles.

The man is believed to be an Iranian national. The woman’s nationality was unknown last night.

The attempt to get in was “unsophisticated” a source told The Sun.

But it comes as Iran’s regime is fighting for its survival after three weeks of non-stop airstrikes by US and Israeli bombers.

The arrests sparked fears the pair were planning an attack or surveilling the bases’ defences.

The Royal Navy said the suspects “unsuccessfully attempted to enter HM Naval Base Clyde on Thursday 19 March”.

They added: “As the matter is subject to an ongoing investigation, we will not comment further.”

A defence insider said the suspects had attempted to drive into HMNB Clyde on Thursday afternoon but were turned away by Ministry of Defence Police.

They remained in the vicinity of the base in their vehicle and “were acting suspiciously” a defence source said.

It is an offence under the Official Secrets Act 1911 to “to approach, inspect, pass over, be in the neighbourhood of” a protected military sites if it threatens the “safety or interests of the state”.

The Sun understands the arrests were not part of a preplanned operation by the security authorities.

A major attack on HMNB Clyde, which is 25 miles north west of Glasgow, could trigger a nuclear disaster.

The base is home to Britain’s Vanguard class nuclear armed submarines and Astute class hunter killer subs.

Both types of submarines are powered by nuclear reactors.

Military and civilian cops swooped on the couple in their car, a source said.

Sniffer dogs searched the vehicle for explosives as the base was thrown into lock down.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5pm on Thursday, 19 March, 2026, we were made aware of two people attempting to enter HM Naval Base Clyde.

“A 34-year-old man and 31-year-old woman have been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”

Former US ambassador John Bolton warned it was “almost guaranteed” that Iran would resort to “asymmetric warfare” in response to the blitzes by the US and Israel.

The former US national security advisor said: “We should all be on a heightened state of alert.

“Given the pummelling the Iranians are taking, their resort to asymmetric warfare, particularly terrorist acts, is almost guaranteed.”

On Friday Iran’s Foreign Minister said Britain’s help to America “will definitely be considered as participation in aggression”.

Kier Starmer has allowed US bombers to take off from British bases on missions to blitz Iran’s weapons.

Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said: “We reserve our inherent right to defend the country’s sovereignty and independence.”

The security alert at Faslane came as two Iranian men appeared in court in London in charged with of spying for Tehran.

Nematollah Shahsavani, 40, and Alireza Farasati, 22, appeared in Westminster Magistrates Court suspected of spying on Jewish targets including the Israeli embassy in London, a Jewish community centre and Britain’s oldest synagogue.

The pair were arrested earlier this month after the US and Israel attacked Iran on Feb 28 in Operation Epic Fury.

But most of their alleged spying is alleged to have taken place in July and August, just weeks after the US and Israel bombed Iran’s nuclear sites in Operation Midnight Hammer.

Last year Ken McCallum, director general of MI5, said his Security Service had tracked “more than twenty potentially lethal Iran-backed plots in just the one year”.

Most of Tehran’s foreign spy operations are run by its ruthless Quds force, which is part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Hisotrically they have mostly targeted Iranian dissidents in exile.

In 2024 an exiled Iranian journalist was repeatedly stabbed outside home in London.

Police said three suspects drove directly to Heathrow airport and left the UK “within a few hours of the attack”.

The IRGC is listed as a terrorist group by the EU – and the UK has signalled it plans to follow suite.

Suspected spies Shahsavani and Farasati were both born in Iran.

Shahsavani came to the UK in 2009. He is married with two school-agedchildren and is a UK dual national.

Farasati arrived in 2021 to join his mother on a family reunion visa when he was 17.

Threats to HMNB Clyde have soared since 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine.

Data released under the Freedom of Information Act showed security incidents soared from 16 in 2021 to 149 the following year, when Putin unleashed his bloodbath invasion of Ukraine.

It is the largest military base in Scotland with over 6,500 military and civilian staff.

The site jointly protected by Ministry of Defence Police and elite Royal Marine Commandos from the 43 Commando Fleet Protection Group.

Both armed units were scrambled to their highest alert yesterday.

The Marines are specialists in “close quarters fighting”.

The MoD said its police provide “specialist policing capabilities at various sensitive defence sites across the UK”.

One of the Vanguard subs is always on patrol providing the UK’s continuous at sea deterrent.

One the Astute class subs – armed with Tomahawk land attack cruise missiles – is thought to be lurking in the Gulf of Oman to help defend allies and shipping from Iranian attacks.

HMS Anson set sail form HMAS Stirling in western Australia two weeks ago.

These individuals command and direct various elements of the IRGC, which plans, organizes, and executes terrorism around the world.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), part of Iran’s official military, plays a central role in Iran’s use of terrorism as a key tool of Iranian statecraft.

In addition, the IRGC has created, supported, and directed other terrorist groups. The IRGC is responsible for numerous attacks targeting Americans and U.S. facilities, including those that have killed U.S. citizens. Since its founding in 1979, the IRGC has gained a substantial role in executing Iran’s foreign policy. The group now wields control over vast segments of Iran’s economy and is influential in Iranian domestic politics.

On April 15, 2019, the U.S. Department of State designated the IRGC, including the IRGC-Qods Force, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended. In 2017, the U.S. Department of the Treasury designated the IRGC as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist pursuant to Executive Order 13224, as amended, for its activities in support of the IRGC-QF. As a result, all of the IRGC’s property, and interests in property, subject to U.S. jurisdiction are blocked, and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in any transactions with the IRGC. It is a crime to knowingly provide, or to attempt or conspire to provide, material support or resources to the IRGC.

NETHERLANDS TIGHTENS SECURITY AFTER SHOOTING OF MAN CRITICAL OF IRAN AUTHORITIES

Updated: 20 March ,2026: 03:42 PM GST

The Netherlands is stepping up security for Iranian dissidents living in the country after a man of Iranian descent who is known to be critical of the authorities in Tehran was shot, Dutch Justice Minister David van Weel said on Friday.

A spokesperson for Van Weel declined to provide more details.

The victim of the shooting is a 36-year-old police official who was seriously injured on Thursday morning. It is still unclear who was responsible for the attack. The investigation is ongoing, and Dutch authorities have not yet determined whether there is any link to Iran.

“The Public Prosecution Service is currently taking all possible scenarios into account,” Van Weel said late on Thursday on social media platform X.

“Given the Iranian background of the victim, the (National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism), the Public Prosecution Service, the police, and the local authorities are on alert and are taking the necessary security measures.”

Iran has been under aerial attack from Israel and the United States for nearly three weeks in a conflict that has disrupted global energy markets and spilled over into other countries.

The Netherlands were warned for years, but they still invited them in. Why kill him if he critical of Iran authorities?

No video again: Mojtaba Khamenei’s absence continues in Nowruz message

A written Nowruz message attributed to Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was released on Friday without any video or audio, as his continued absence fuels questions about his condition and whereabouts.

The message urged domestic media to “seriously refrain from highlighting weaknesses,” emphasizing the need to maintain internal cohesion.

It also said that Iranian armed forces and the so-called “resistance” front were not involved in recent attacks on Turkey and Oman.

"The attacks carried out in Turkey and Oman — both of which have good relations with Iran — were in no way conducted by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic or other forces of the Resistance Front," the message reads.

He said this is a ploy by the “Zionist enemy,” using false-flag tactics to create divisionbetween the Islamic Republic and its neighbors, and that it may also occur in some other countries.

In another part of the message, Khamenei described Iran’s January protests a “coup,” praising the Islamic Republic's supporters for suppressing it.

Iran’s IRGC says spokesman Ali Mohammad Naini killed in US-Israeli attack

Al Jazeera Staff, AFP and AP

Fri, March 20, 2026 at 8:44 AM

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesperson has been killed in overnight strikes carried out jointly by the United States and Israel, the IRGC said, the latest in a mounting toll of senior officials assassinated since the war began.

Ali Mohammad Naini, a 68-year-old brigadier general who took up the IRGC spokesman role in 2024, “was martyred in the criminal cowardly terrorist attack by the American-Zionist side at dawn”, the IRGC said in a statement on Friday.

His death came just hours after he appeared on national television to insist that Iran retained full capacity to manufacture missiles, even under wartime conditions.

“Our missile industry deserves a perfect score … and there is no concern in this regard, because even under wartime conditions we continue missile production,” Naini was quoted by the Fars news agency as saying.

On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “Iran no longer has the capacity to enrich uranium and manufacture ballistic missiles”.

The Israeli army said on Friday that it was carrying out strikes across eastern Tehran, as the country marks the Persian New Year, Nowruz, which this year coincides with Eid al-Fitr.

Al Jazeera’s Mohamed Vall, reporting from Tehran, described the mood in the capital as “hushed”, with none of the customary festivities visible on the streets.

== killing is the latest in a string of high-profile assassinations that have gutted Iran’s establishment in less than three weeks.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the opening hours of the joint US-Israeli military campaign on February 28. He has since been replaced by his son, Mojtaba Khamenei.==

Earlier this week, Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and one of the most influential figures in Iran’s establishment, was killed in a strike along with his son and several aides.

The head of the Basij paramilitary forces, Brigadier General Gholamreza Soleimani, and Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib were also confirmed dead within the same 48-hour period.

On Friday, the Israeli military also claimed to have killed Esmail Ahmadi, a senior intelligence figure within the IRGC’s Basij paramilitary unit, in an attack on Tehran earlier this week.

The army said Ahmadi was killed in the same strike that targeted the Basij command centre in central Tehran and killed Soleimani and several other senior figures in the group’s leadership.

There was no immediate comment from the Iranian authorities on Israel’s claim that Ahmadi was among those killed.

On Thursday,US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made little effort to conceal Washington’s glee over the recent killings of senior Iranian officials, saying that “the last job anyone in the world wants right now”is a senior leadership role in the IRGC or Basij.

However, other US officials appeared to suggest that Washington and Israel’s aims in Iran were not aligned.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard told the House Intelligence Committee this week that US and Israeli objectives “are different”.

She also said that while Israel had been “focused on disabling the Iranian leadership”,Trump’s goals were to destroy Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities “and their navy”.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has cast the killings as a means of opening a path for Iranians to reclaim their country, saying on Wednesday the campaign against the country’s leadership “will not happen all at once” but that persistence would give Iranians “a chance to take their fate into their own hands”.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi saidthe US and Israel had still failed to grasp that Iran’s political structure does not rest on any single person. “The presence or absence of a single individual does not affect this structure,” he said.

This is great, because it’s the first prosecution in Antifa, many of the hanger ons that were recruited are going to second guess their actions when they are going to federal jail. And the real Antifa can and will be arrested
