Accordingly, senior US military commanders have submitted specific requests to prepare for this
option as President Donald Trump considers the next steps in the US-Israel led conflict.
Although administration officials have publicly declined to discuss the next steps, these quiet
military movements suggest the Pentagon is working to maximize the range of military options
available to the U.S. president.
Internal sources also indicated that the U.S. military has held meetings to plan how to handle the
capture of Iranian soldiers and paramilitary personnel, including determining detention locations if
ground operations are activated.
Currently, the U.S. is preparing to deploy elements of the 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle
East. This plan also involves the Army's Global Response Force and the Marine Corps
Expeditionary Force. Field reports indicate thousands of Marines are being deployed.
In a new development, three warships carrying approximately 2,200 Marines from an
expeditionary unit departed California earlier this week. This is the second Marine contingent
deployed since the outbreak of hostilities, and it is expected to take several weeks for the force to
settle into its position. The amphibious ships, including the USS Boxer, have been deployed,
although their specific destination has not been announced.
A few days earlier, the U.S. had dispatched another amphibious assault group carrying an
additional 2,500 Marines from the Pacific to the Middle East. This Marine force will join the more
than 50,000 U.S. troops currently stationed in the region. This further raises the possibility that the
U.S. might conduct a military landing in Iran.
Meanwhile, the first unit deployed from the Pacific region is still en route to the conflict zone.
These moves indicate that the US is preparing a formidable force to respond to any unexpected
developments in Iran.
