CURRENT DAY- Massive fire at historical courthouse in Rome,Georgia
HISTORY-
The Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD destroyed much of the city, with myths about Nero’s involvement overshadowing the historical reality.
Overview of the Fire
The Great Fire of Rome began on the night of 18–19 July 64 AD in the crowded merchant shops near the Circus Maximus, Rome’s chariot stadium, where flammable goods were stored, providing fuel for the blaze (Tacitus). The fire raged forsixdays, was temporarily controlled, but reignited and continued for anotherthreedays, ultimately destroyingten of Rome’s fourteen districts, leaving nearly three-quarters of the city in ruins. The densely packed wooden buildings, narrow streets, and poor urban planning contributed to the rapid spread.
