Bank of America is paying $72.5 million to settle a federal lawsuit accusing the bank of turning a blind eye to Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged sex-trafficking operations, a dramatic move that critics say is more about avoiding courtroom drama than admitting guilt.

The Manhattan federal lawsuit, filed under a pseudonym, alleges Bank of America continued providing accounts and processing transactions for Epstein and his associates despite “obvious red flags,” including massive transfers linked to billionaire Leon Black

Plaintiffs claim the bank failed to report suspicious activity that could have helped law enforcement intervene years earlier.

Bank of America insists the settlement does not constitute an admission of wrongdoing, framing the payout as a practical step to give victims closure and move past the legal battle.

A Texas man was sentenced Wednesday to over 12 years in prison and two years of supervised release for organizing and leading a $61.5 million health care fraud and wire fraud conspiracy in which thousands of Medicare beneficiaries who were the victims of deceptive telemarketing were sent thousands of orthotic braces, foot baths, and genetic tests they did not need.

According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Robert “Bobby” Leon Smith III, 50, of Archer City, Texas, owned and operated seven durable medical equipment supply companies based in Florida, Texas, and Maryland through which he submitted millions of dollars in false claims to Medicare for orthotic braces and foot baths that beneficiaries did not need.

Smith also owned a marketing company based in Texas that he used to conduct deceptive telemarketing campaigns that targeted Medicare beneficiaries for medical services they did not need. Working with an offshore call center located in the Philippines, Smith and his co-conspirators peddled medically unnecessary orthotic braces, foot baths, and genetic tests to Medicare beneficiaries nationwide. In audio recordings presented at trial, Smith was heard pressuring beneficiaries to accept these products even after the beneficiaries protested that they did not need or want them.

Smith obtained doctors’ orders for these products by allegedly paying kickbacks and bribes to illegitimate telemedicine companies. He then sold these doctors’ orders to other medical suppliers that he knew used them to submit false and fraudulent claims to Medicare.

Taxpayers are yet again helping fund disruptive activism in Los Angeles — this time the radicals planning to chaos across the city and county for Saturday’s “No Kings” protests, which organizers claim will be the biggest yet.

One the leading groups participating in the event is the Liberty Hill Foundation, a social justice nonprofit that receives $14 million in Los Angeles city funding for tenant outreach and housing programs.

Public filings show the group has donated tens of thousands of dollars to the ACLU of Southern California, raising further questions about taxpayer-supported organizations being used for radical political advocacy.

ACLU of Southern California is a civil rights legal organization that frequently challenges government policy through litigation and advocacy.

The group has filed multiple lawsuits against the City and County of Los Angeles over issues ranging from homelessness enforcement to civil liberties and policing practices.

Other big supporters of the No Kings protests are Unite Here Local 11 and SEIU Local 21, organizations with well documented ties to City Hall and alignment with the City Council’s progressive bloc, including radical socialists, Eunisses Hernandez and Hugo Soto-Martinez.
