Archaeologists at Azekah, an ancient town southwest of Jerusalem, discovered a 2,500-year-old mass grave containing the jumbled remains of up to 89 infants, with over 70% being less than two years old. This find, located in a cistern repurposed during the Persian Period (5th century B.C.E.), helps explain why young children are rarely found in biblical-era family cemeteries.
