Bank of America agrees to pay $72.5 million to settle Epstein survivors suit

The lawsuit alleges BofA provided banking services to Epstein and his sex-trafficking operation, along with accounts used by associates including Ghislaine Maxwell.

Bank of America has agreed to pay $72.5 million to survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s sex-trafficking operationwho allege the bank enabled and profited from his crimes.

The lawsuit, filed last year, alleges that the nation’s second-largest bank provided banking services to Epstein and his sex-trafficking operation, along with accounts used by victims and associates —among them Ghislaine Maxwell and Leon Black, the former CEO of Apollo Global Management.

U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff, who is presiding over the case, will hold a hearing in April to determine whether to approve the settlement.

The deal does not include an admission of liability by the bank.

“While we stand by our prior statements made in the filings in this case, including thatBank of America did not facilitate sex trafficking crimes, this resolutionallows us to put this matter behind us and provides further closure for the plaintiffs,” a Bank of America spokesperson told NBC News.

Attorneys for the victims didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The settlement covers all women “who were sexually abused or trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein, or by any person who is connected to or otherwise associated with Jeffrey Epstein or any Jeffrey Epstein sex-trafficking venture” between June 30, 2008, and July 6, 2019, according to a filing by the victims’ lawyers. Attorneys for the survivors say at least 60 women who were victimized by Epstein during that period.

The plaintiffs allege the bank failed to properly monitor accounts and did not file timely suspicious activity reports concerning questionable transactions, including transfers Black made to Epstein from his Bank of America account. Among them:$170 million described as payment for “tax and estate planning advice,”which the plaintiffs contend was used to fund Epstein’s trafficking enterprise.

Black had been scheduled for an eight-hour deposition this month, with victim’s attorney Sigrid McCawley describing him as a “critical witness.” However, he avoided the deposition when the parties notified the court of a settlement last week.

Black is not a defendant in the suit against Bank of America. He has denied any wrongdoing or knowledge of Epstein’s criminal conduct. A spokesperson for Black declined to comment.

Epstein survivors have brought similar lawsuits against JPMorgan Chase and Deutsche Bank thatwere later settled for hundreds of millions of dollars. JPMorgan agreed to pay $290 million, and Deutsche Bank paid $75 million to victims.

Los Angeles County sees largest population decline in the U.S., census data shows

March 26.

Nearly 54,000 people moved out of L.A. County between July 1, 2024 and July 1, 2025, U.S. Census data shows. The decline is part of an ongoing trend. In 2020 L.A. County was estimated to have more than 10 million residents. As of 2025, the county was thought to have just under 9.7 million residents.

It’s unclear where the fleeing Angelinos are moving. (Really???) However, the neighboring counties of Riverside and San Bernardino saw a combined increase of 21,131 residents between 2024 and 2025, according to U.S. Census data. The greater Las Vegas area also saw a population boost of more than 21,000 people last year.

Despite the ongoing decline, L.A. County still remains the nation’s most populous county, nearly doubling the population of the next largest county, Cook County, Ill. (5.2 million residents).

The second largest decline was seen in Pinellas County, Fla., with a population decrease of nearly 12,000 people. Orange County (-8,520), San Diego County (-5,294) and Ventura County (-2,580) also made the top 10 list for largest population declines in the U.S. last year.

Although L.A. County saw the largest total decline, percentage-wise, its losses were minimal compared to other U.S. counties. L.A.’s population declined roughly 0.5% between 2024 and 2025. The counties that lost the largest percentage of residents include Taylor County, Fla. (-2.2%), Vernon Parish, La. (-2.1%) and Del Norte County, Calif. (-2%).Other California counties to lose the highest percent of residents include Tuolumne County (1.9%) and Lassen County (1.7%).

Spain closes off its airspace to US planes involved in the Iran war

(They are making it easy for Trump! 1/2)

MADRID (AP) — Spain closed its airspace to U.S. planes involved in the Iran war, officials said Monday,in another step by Europe’s loudest critic of U.S. and Israeli military actions in the monthlong conflict.

The country earlier said that the U.S.couldn’t use jointly operated military bases in the war, which Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has described as illegal, reckless and unjust. Defense Minister Margarita Robles said thatthe same logic applied to the use of Spanish airspace.

“This was made perfectly clear to the American military and forces from the very beginning. Therefore, neither the bases are authorized, nor, of course, is the use of Spanish airspaceauthorized for any actions related to the war in Iran,” Robles told reporters, describing the conflict as “profoundly illegal and profoundly unjust.”

Sánchez has called on the U.S., Israel and Iran to end the war.

“You cannot respond to one illegality with another, because that’s how humanity’s great disasters begin,” he said earlier this month.

U.S. Secretary of StateMarco Rubio said. thatSpain’s leaders are “bragging” about cutting off its airspace, even as Washington has pledged to defend the NATO member. He said that the trans-Atlantic military alliance is useful for the U.S., because it “allows us to station troops and aircraft and weapons in parts of the world that we wouldn’t normally have bases, and that includes in much of Europe.”

“But if NATO is just about us defending Europe if they’re attacked, but then denying us basing rights when we need them, that’s not a very good arrangement,” Rubio told Al Jazeera on Monday. “That’s a hard one to stay engagedin and say this is good for the United States.

So all of that is going to have to be reexamined.”

After Sánchez’s government denied the U.S. use of the Rota and Morón military bases in southern Spain, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to cut trade with Madrid.

Washington made trade threats last year, too, when Sánchez said that his government wouldn’t increase its defense spending in accordance with a deal agreed to by other NATO members following Trump’s pressure.

At the time, Sánchez’s government said that Spain could meet its military commitments by spending 2.1% of gross domestic product on defense, instead of the 5% the rest of the 32-nation military alliance agreed upon.

Sánchez also has been among the most vocal critics of Israel’s actions during the war in Gaza, which has invited criticism from Israel’s government on several occasions.

No comment from NATO

Spain’s new decision against a NATO ally is rare, though not unprecedented.NATO didn’t comment, referring questions to national authorities.

“NATO allies operate with a presumption of cooperation, but of course they retain sovereignty,’' said Daniel Baer, director of the Europe Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and a former U.S. ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

In an incident that strained trans-Atlantic ties, France and Italy blocked the U.S. military from using their airspace for an operation targeting Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi in 1986.

In 2003, NATO member Turkey refused to allow American troops to use its territory to invade Iraq, though it did allow overflights. France and Germany firmly opposed that war, but allowed U.S. and British fighter jets to fly over their airspace.

France’s then foreign minister, Dominique de Villepin, despite a famed U.N. speech against the Bush administration’s plans to invade, told the French parliament at the timethat “there are practices between allies that exist that we must respect, including overflight rights.”

Europe between a rock and a hard place

Spain’s decision reflects broader concernsamong traditional U.S. partners since Trump returned to office.

“The relationship with the U.S. was already strained,” Baer said. “Allies can generally be counted on, but they can’t be taken for granted.”

Still, he’s doubtful that other European countries would follow Spain’s example.

Most Europeans are focused on keeping some measure of U.S. cooperation in supporting Ukraine, so I think it’s less likely that others join, even as they voice concerns about a lack of clarity around U.S. strategic objectives in Iran,’' he said.

Trump is right if NATO members try to thwart the U.S. mission, the U.S. should withdraw the billions and billions they contribute to NATO annually. PS: Rutte is a lying snake.

Alireza Jafari, an 11-year-old fifth-grade student, has been officially identified as a child soldier among those killed in recent days.

He lost his life while serving at a Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) checkpoint. Speaking to the Hamshahri newspaper, his mother said Alireza was alongside his father at a checkpoint in Tehran when the incident occurred. Although his name had appeared earlier on casualty lists, the “Basij of Educators” organization has now confirmed that he was killed “in the line of duty” at the checkpoint.

According to reports from Saham News and the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, his mother said that Alireza’s father had taken his 11-year-old son with him that night due to a “manpower shortage.”. She addedthat teenagers aged 15 and 16 are often present at such checkpoints.

The “Basij of Educators” also stated thatthe 11-year-old was killed in a drone strikewhile stationed at a checkpoint on the Artesh Expressway.

On March 26, Rahim Nad-Ali, Deputy of Cultural and Artistic Affairs for the IRGC’s “Mohammad Rasool-Allah” unit in Tehran, announced a campaign called “Defenders of the Homeland for Iran.”

This call to action openly allowed citizens as young as 12 years old to sign up for roles in “operations, support, logistics, and checkpoint patrols.” According to Nad-Ali, the initiative includes:

  • Intelligence and operational patrol

  • Basij checkpoints

  • Logistics and “epic convoys”

  • Preparing food for military forces and treating war casualties

During a live state television broadcast, he confirmed that the institution equips 12-year-old children and teenagers with weapons and deploys them at street-level checkpoints.

Earlier, on March 11, an Israeli military spokesperson confirmed that their forces had targeted IRGC and Basij checkpoints across Iran as part of a new phase of attacks. The spokesperson said these operations are aimed at weakening the Islamic Republic and ultimately empowering the people.

Despite repeated messages from U.S. and Israeli officials, as well as Prince Reza Pahlavi, urging citizens to stay away from public gatherings, government institutions have continued to organize nightly rallies in public squares, encouraging people to step out even amid ongoing military risks.

(I’m sure Iran is cheering that the child is a Martyr!)

Rubio says US will keep Strait of Hormuz open

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States will ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open and warned NATO may need to be re-examined after some allies denied airspace and basing access.

“The Strait of Hormuz will be open. When this operation is over, it will be open, and it’ll be open one way or another,” Rubio said in an interview with Al Jazeera.

It will be open because Iran agrees to abide by international law… Or a coalition of nations… will make sure that it’s open. One way or the other, it’s going to be open,” he added.

Rubio said US objectives include weakening Iran’s military capabilities, including its air force, navy and missile systems, and reducing its ability to produce drones and weapons.

He also criticized NATO allies over restrictions on US operations, saying, “We have countries like Spain… denying us the use of their airspace and bragging about it.”

“If NATO is just about us defending Europe… but them denying us basing rights when we need them, that’s not a very good arrangement,” he said, adding the alliance “is going to have to be re-examined.”

Dozens of IRGC-linked money changers arrested in UAE

Dozens of money changers linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards were arrestedin the United Arab Emirates after tensions rose following attacks by the Islamic Republic, sources familiar with the matter told Iran International.

The sources said the detainees had worked with financial entities tied to the Islamic Republic, including companies linked to the Guards, helping transfer funds on their behalf.

They said companies linked to those arrested were shut down and their offices closed.

UAE authorities also summoned some other money changers and told them to leave the country, the sources said.

The development follows earlier measures targeting Iranian nationals in the UAE. In recent days, some Iranian residents outside the country found their residency visas revoked before returning, preventing re-entry, according to accounts received by Iran International on Saturday.

Several affected individuals said the cancellations were carried out without prior notice. One Iranian resident said that after traveling to India with his family following the outbreak of war,he discovered his residency had been revoked, while his non-Iranian family members were still allowed to return to the UAE.

Earlier reports had also pointed to the cancellation of tourist visas for Iranian nationals traveling to the country.

President Trump Tells EU Leaders to “Go Get Your Own Oil” from Gulf – In Interim, Welcome King Charles

March 31, 2026 | Sundance |

President Trump sent a message to the U.K and European leaders who are facing a fuel shortage, “come get your own oil.”

(Via Truth Social) – “All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT. You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!” ~ President DJT

White House Tells Spain: U.S. Military ‘Does Not Need Your Help’

Christian K. Caruzo31 Mar 2026

The U.S. does not need help from Spain “or anyone else” after the government of socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez closed off Spanish airspace to U.S. aircraft involved in Operation Epic Fury, a White House spokesperson confirmed Monday.

“The United States Military is meeting or surpassing all of its goals under Operation Epic Fury and does not need help from Spain or anyone else,” the White House official reportedly told Newsweek.

Similar remarks were given to other outlets such as Fox News and the Spanish newspapers ABC and El País.

On Monday, Spanish government officials confirmed it closed off its airspace to U.S. aircraft involved in the ongoing military operations against Iran’s Islamic regime, barring U.S. planes from utilizing the Spanish bases in Rota, Cádiz and Morón de la Frontera, Seville while at the same time, prohibiting U.S. aircraft stationed in third countries from passing through Spanish airspace.

The prohibition was reported by El País on Monday morning and confirmed by Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares and other officials hours later.

“From the very beginning, this was made crystal clear to the U.S. side and to U.S. forces; therefore, neither the use of the bases nor, of course, the use of Spanish airspace for operations related to the war in Iran is authorized,” Robles told reporters on Monday, per El Español.

“Spain will under no circumstances authorize — nor has it ever authorized, nor does it currently authorize, nor will it ever authorize — the use of the Rota and Morón bases to wage a war that we are totally opposed to, in which we do not believe, and which we consider deeply illegal and deeply unjust,” she continued.

The minister reportedly clarified that the United States may only use the Spanish bases for operations provided for in bilateral agreements.

Spanish public broadcaster RTVE reports that, in response to a request from the center-right People’s Party (PP), Robles is set to appear before Congress on Tuesdayto report on the national security implications of the Spanish government’s policies and stance adopted with regards to the U.S. and Israel’s actions against Iran.

Prime MinisterSánchez has maintained a purported “neutral” stance towards the ongoing war in Iranand has, through different statements and remarks, claimed that the Spanish government’s position with regards to the conflict is, “no to war.”

On Sunday, Sánchez published a letter addressing members of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE)reiterating his stance against the war on grounds that “we socialists are here for this. To defend peace.”

“That is why, when we Socialists are in government, we act accordingly. We stood with Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression,” Sánchez’s letter read in part. “We demanded an end to the genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. And now we are shouting, loud and clear, that this illegal war must end now.”

Winning: U.S. Embassy in Venezuela Reopens as Trump Plan Advances

Christian K. Caruzo31 Mar 2026

The United States embassy in Caracas, Venezuela, formally resumed operations on Monday, marking anew step in the Trump administration’s three-phase plantowardsrestoring democracyin the South American nation.

The U.S. embassy in the Venezuelan capital had remained shut down since March 2019after now-deposed socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro had Venezuela cut off all diplomatic ties with America.

Following Maduro’s arrest on January 3through a U.S. law enforcement operation in Caracasauthorized by President Donald Trump,a team of U.S. diplomats led by AmbassadorLaura Doguhas carried out efforts towards reopening the facilityand, onMarch 5, both countries agreed to restore diplomatic ties.

In an official press release, the U.S. State Department recounted on Monday that since the 2019 rupture, theUnited States conducted its diplomatic engagement in Venezuelathrough a Venezuela Affairs Unit (VAU) interimoffice at the U.S. embassy in Bogotá, Colombia.

“Today, we are formally resuming operations at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, marking a new chapter in our diplomatic presence in Venezuela,” the press release read in part.

Ambassador Dogu and her team published a video on social media announcing the reopening of the embassy. In the video, Dogu proclaimed in Spanish, “we are once again, the U.S. embassy in Caracas.”

Throughout the video, Dogu’s team explained that resuming embassy operationsmeans that the U.S. government will have a permanent diplomatic presencestationed in Venezuela, which will allow U.S. business leaders to connect with their local counterparts, as well as allowing the diplomats to engage with all political and civil society actors.

Additionally, Dogu’s team detailedthat reopening the embassy will create job opportunities and allow to continue rebuilding the facilitiesto provide consular services in the future and promote the flow of information, exchanges, and connections between our countries.

“Now, asthe U.S. Embassy in Caracas, we are beginning a new chapter in our bilateral relationship. We are just getting started,” Ambassador Dogu said.

“There is still much to be done as we continueto implement the Trump Administration’s three-phase plan. Thank you for your warm welcome and your cooperation for the benefit of both countries. We remain committed to Venezuela,” she concluded.

Following Maduro’s capture, theTrump administration outlined a three-phase stabilization, recovery, and transition towards democracy outline for Venezuela. Speaking to Al-Jazeera on Monday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that the plan is moving along very well.

“We said it from the very first day after that operation happened.I said our hope is, number one, to stabilize the country,” Rubio said.

“We didn’t want to see civil war. We didn’t want to see systemic collapse. We didn’t want to see a mass migration event. You’ve seen none of these things,” he continued.

“In orderfor Venezuela to fulfill its economic potential, it has to have a stable democratic government that people are willing to invest in the economy because they know they’ll be protected by laws and legitimacy,” he continued.“We’re well on our way to achieving this.”

PARIS, March 24 (Reuters) - French investigators searched the Paris offices of Swiss bank Edmond de Rothschild as part of an inquiry into alleged corruption ‌involving a French diplomat named in documents linked to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, prosecutors said on Tuesday.

The name of Fabrice Aidan, a middle-ranking French diplomat who was seconded to the United Nations from 2006 to 2013 and later worked at the bank, appeared in more than 200 documents released by the U.S. Justice Department.

These include emails he is alleged to have sent Epstein between 2010 and 2016 from his personal and U.N. accounts.

Some of the emails reviewed by Reutersshow the transfer of U.N. Security Council briefings and other confidential documents to Epstein during that period.

Aidan has denied wrongdoing, and his lawyer did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The French Foreign Ministry said it had completed an administrative investigation, performing about 30 interviews. The ministry said all current and former staff members who had been summoned to its investigation had cooperated, adding that it was available to judicial authoritiesand was considering disciplinary proceedings.

The search was carried out on Friday in the presence of Ariane de Rothschild, the Swiss bank's boss, a source close to the bank said.

Edmond de Rothschild was cooperating fully with the justice system in the investigation led by the financial prosecutor, the same source said, adding that aninternal inquiry had been launched as soon as suspicions emerged concerning the former employee, who worked ‌at the bank from 2014 to 2016.

ACCUSATIONS OF 'PASSIVE CORRUPTION'

The investigation is beingled by officers from France's central office against corruption and financial and tax offences, which questioned Aidan in a voluntary interview in late February.

The French financial prosecutor's office said it was investigating accusations of passive corruptionof a foreign public official and complicity in that crime, targeting Aidan in particular.

When asked if it was looking into Epstein links with the Geneva-based Edmond de Rothschild, Swiss financial regulator Finma said it considered all reliable informationin its supervision and conducted in-depth reviews when in doubt about the integrity of business activities.

Swiss federal prosecutors did notimmediately respond to a request for comment onwhether they were also investigating. A spokesperson for the Geneva prosecutor's office declined to comment on whether any measures were taken in the city.

Ariane de Rothschild also appeared in the files released by the U.S. Justice Department in January, which showed she kept up a years-long personal correspondence with Epstein before his 2019 arrest.

After the files were released, a spokesperson for the banksaid that Epstein was a business acquaintance of de Rothschild from 2013 to 2019. De Rothschild had no knowledge of Epstein's conduct, the spokesperson said.
