Tehran has warned Kiev it would become a legitimate target if its involvement in the US-Israeli war continues, Farhad Ibragimov has said

An Iranian strike that reportedly destroyed a depot of Ukrainian anti-drone systems in Dubai served as a “slap in the face” to Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky, a Middle East expert has told RT.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) Navy and Aerospace Division reportedly hit the depot while targeting US military sites in Dubai. Ukraine, however, has denied that the reported incident took place.

Farhad Ibragimov, a Middle East expert at Russia’s Financial University, said that the strike should be seen as a clear signal from Tehran to Kiev and its backers that Ukrainian assets would be “legitimate targets” if Kiev was involved in the US-Israeli war against Iran.

Ibragimov characterized the Dubai attack as an initial warning – a “light slap” – which could be followed by a stronger hit if Kiev continues to seek involvement in the conflict.

The warning was Iran’s way of responding to Ukraine’s involvement “in deeds, not words,” he suggested, adding that Tehran “would be prepared to declare war on the Kiev regime if it does not back down.”

According to Ibragimov, Iranian officials see Zelensky as a figure they should not “stand on ceremony” with and believe he must be addressed in a language he understands.

Since the start of the current Middle East conflict, Kiev has moved to deepen its involvement by supplying the Gulf states with technology and expertise to counter drones, drawing on its battlefield experience against Iranian-designed systems, according to media reports.

Socialist Paris Mayor Faces Fury From Parents over Child Sexual Abuse Scandal in City’s After-School Programme

The recently elected Socialist Party Mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire, is already besieged by scandal as hundreds of families have urged his office to inflict punishment against those involved in the mass sexual abuse of children in public after-school programmes.

Grégoire, who served as deputy under previous Socialist Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, managed to win the race against centre-right Républicains candidate Rachida Dati this month, despite having served in the administration which oversaw one of the biggest scandals to emerge in modern French history.

In December, it was reported that at least 52 leaders of city after-school programmes in Paris had been suspended over allegations of sexually abusing children over the previous three years.

It came after three leaders of the Bullourde school were suspended in October on suspicion of “acts of sexual assault” against children. This allegedly included assaults against a three-year-old girl, who mimed the sexual acts apparently done to her to investigators, who determined that such acts would have been outside the realm of such a young child’s imagination. This followed similar reports from a separate school in April earlier that year.

The breadth of the scandal appears to be widening, with three more men being arrested this month for allegedly sexually abusing children between the ages of three and nine years old in three schools in Paris.

On Sunday, the parents of 777 students in the 7th and 15th arrondissements of Paris delivered a letter to Mayor Grégoire, demanding an independent audit of the sexual assaults against children in after-school programmes in the capital. They also demanded that the new mayor impose sanctions on certain officials in the city government over failures to safeguard children, Franceinfo reported.

The parents said that there must be a “clear commitment” made from the new administration to establish and punish those responsible “at each level of the decision-making chain” in Town Hall.

They further demanded that the mayor ensure that those accused of sexual violence against children in Parisian schools are not merely transferred to other schools, as has been alleged in some cases, but rather face criminal punishment.

For his part, Mayor Grégoire said on Monday that combating the sexual abuse of children will be the “absolute priority” of his incoming administration. He also claimed that none of the school staff was transferred after facing accusations, and that they have all been suspended amid investigations.

The Socialist mayor said that he was also interested in hiring an independent firm to carry out an audit of the accusations and to help “monitor the correct application of procedures over time”.

“We have to start everything from the beginning. We need to turn the tables. We must identify those who are guilty. We must protect our children,” he said, while vowing “zero tolerance” and a review of “all recruitment procedures”.

However, there remains deep scepticism of the mayor, particularly given that he served as second in command in the administration which failed to protect the children in the first place.

One of the parents who helped organise the letter on Sunday said: “When he won the election, he didn’t have a word for the children. I don’t believe for a single second that he handles the subject properly.”

Sexual Perversity and Misanthropy in the Talmud

What are religious systems if not guides for ethics? Any religion worth its salt must give its followers a concrete notion of the good life—of virtue, justice, and rectitude. It needs to offer a conception of what counts as good in this world; it must explain how a person can be good, and how people collectively can create the best possible existence for themselves. These things will naturally be tied to a specific conception of God (or the gods), but still, concrete and specific ethical norms must be the outcome; otherwise, followers will be largely left in the dark regarding how to conduct a proper life.

Judaism is no exception. The basic outline of this religion is of course found in the Jewish Bible, the Old Testament (the Tanakh). Unfortunately, from an ethical perspective, the Old Testament is an utter fiasco: moral precepts abound, but they are ambiguous, contradictory, vapid, and arbitrary. And worse: they lead to a catastrophic and repulsive set of attitudes, as I will demonstrate.

Let me start, then, with the ethics of the Old Testament. The clearest bit of the mess is the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20), but these are either so obvious as to be pointless (“honor your parents,” “don’t steal,” “don’t kill”), or so abstract as to be meaningless (“no other gods,” “keep Sabbath holy,” “God’s name not in vain”). There is really very little here to live by, and certainly nothing to indicate a divine origin, as would be expected from an omniscient and all-good God.

But it’s worse than this. According to Jewish tradition, there are precisely 613 “commandments” in just the Torah alone! (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.) Every time anyone is told to do something, or not to do something, some rabbi has turned that into a “commandment.” What a mess! And then how many commandments in the entire Old Testament? There must be thousands, surely.

And then there are the many inconsistencies and contradictions. How, for example, does “thou shalt not kill” play against the many calls by God for Jews to slaughter innocents? Just consider the poor Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, and others, whom God commands to “utterly destroy” (Deut 20:17); or the unfortunate Midianites, whom God insists be massacred by the thousands (Num 31).[1] And this is not to mention the call by God for the Jews to “blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven” (Deut 25:19)—which is nothing less than a call for genocide. Amalek, in the form of Palestinians, Iranians, and Lebanese, are certainly suffering a fair degree of “blotting” as we speak. After all, who shall challenge the word of God?

How is it that Moses is commanded to “despoil” and plunder the Egyptians (Ex 12:36), when, only a few verses later, he is commanded to “not steal” (Ex 20:15)? How is it that “the sins of the fathers are the sins of the sons” (Ex 20:5, 34:7), but yet Ezekiel informs us that “the son shall not suffer the iniquity of the father” (Ez 18:20)? How is that “you shall not oppress a stranger” (Ex 23:9) and yet “you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are around you” (Lev 25:44)? Good luck figuring that out.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down a Colorado law banning conversion therapy for LGBT minors.

The court ruled in favor of a Christian therapist, rejecting the state's law that prohibited mental health professionals from trying to change the sexual orientation or gender identity of LGBT minors, The New York Times reported.

The 8-1 decision impacts more than 20 other states that have similar laws banning conversion therapy.

The court's majority decision said the law, as applied to talk therapy, impermissibly interferes with free speech.

“Colorado may regard its policy as essential to public health and safety,” Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote in the court's opinion. “But the First Amendment stands as a shield against any effort to enforce orthodoxy in thought or speech in this country.”

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was the lone dissenter, reading a lengthy summary of her opposition from the bench.

Colorado's law was adopted in 2019, and prohibits “any practice or treatment” that tries to change a minor’s “gender expressions or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attraction or feelings toward individuals of the same sex.”

The law has never been enforced, but it includes fines of up to $5,000 for each violation and possible suspension or revocation of a counselor’s license. The law includes an exemption for those “engaged in the practice of religious ministry.”

Kaley Chiles, who's a Christian, sued Colorado over the law in 2022, arguing that it prevented her from working with young patients who want to live a life “consistent with their faith.”

In her court filings, she said that she was not seeking to “cure” clients of same-sex attractions or to “change” their sexual orientation, but to help them with their own stated goals, which sometimes include “seeking to reduce or eliminate unwanted sexual attractions.”
