The US president has said Riyadh has to be nice to America amid the Iran war

US President Donald Trump has boasted that Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the country’s de facto leader, is “kissing my ass” and must “be nice” to the US.

Trump made the remarks on Friday at the Saudi sovereign wealth fund’s annual forum in Miami, amid the US-Israeli war against Iran, which sparked retaliation in which Saudi facilities were targeted.

During his address, Trump reminisced about his ties with 90-year-old Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. “I… love the king of Saudi Arabia. What a man he is. When I was there, we bonded,” he said, recalling that the king once grabbed his arm to get up.

”They said that is the only time he has ever grabbed anybody… I said, I think he likes me. And he did like me, and he still likes me, and he is a great man to say hello to. He is a great guy with a great son,” he said.

Pivoting to relations with Mohammed bin Salman, he said the crown prince had told him that the US was “a dead country” just one year ago, but is now “the hottest country anywhere in the world.”

“He did not think this was going to happen. He did not think he would be kissing my ass… He thought he would be just another American president that was a loser, where the country was going downhill. But now he has to be nice to me,” Trump said.

This comes after Trump suggested earlier this week that bin Salman was encouraging US action against Iran. “He is a warrior. He is fighting with us, by the way,” he said.

On Tuesday, the New York Times reported that bin Salman had privately urged Trump to continue the US-Israeli campaign against Iran, framing it as a “historic opportunity” to reshape the Middle East. Citing sources, the NYT said the crown prince argued that Iran’s government can only be eliminated through regime change.

Riyadh denied this, saying it “has always supported a peaceful resolution, to this conflict, even before it began.”

Op. True Promise 4, Wave 88: IRGC Navy says it launched 'heavy' attacks on US-Israeli targets

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has carried out four operations against American and Israeli terrorist targets in the early hours of Tuesday, delivering blows as part of the 88th wave of Operation True Promise 4.

The IRGC Public Relations Department announced that the naval forces launched a "heavy" offensive against enemy positions.

A container ship belonging to the Israeli regime, named Express Halfong, was struck by ballistic missiles in the middle waters of the Persian Gulf, according to the statement.

In a second combined operation, it added, a hideout of US Marines along the coast of the United Arab Emirates, where they had taken cover outside military bases fearing Iran's destructive missiles, was precisely targeted and destroyed by explosive drones.

The IRGC Navy also destroyed a counter-drone system belonging to the US Fifth Fleet that had been deployed outside its base near Manama airport in Bahrain, said the statement, adding that additionally, two advanced early warning radars at the "Jaber al-Ahmad" US terrorist base in Kuwait were hit by drones.

The IRGC statement reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz is fully and firmly under the control of its forces.

"The smallest movement of enemies will be met with missile and drone strikes," the statement warned.

The 88th wave of Operation True Promise 4 is the latest in a series of near-daily Iranian retaliatory strikes since the United States and Israel launched an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran on February 28.

Since then, Iran’s armed forces have responded with waves of missile and drone operations targeting US military bases across West Asia and Israeli positions in the occupied territories.

The IRGC has defended these operations as legitimate self-defense under international law.

In recent days, the scale and precision of Iranian strikes have intensified.

On Monday, the IRGC executed the 87th wave of Operation True Promise 4, striking US command centers and military installations across the region in a tribute to Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, the IRGC Navy commander who was martyred while reinforcing Iran’s coastal defenses.

That operation destroyed a US command and control center near Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE, where more than 200 American commanders and officers were present, as well as the hideout of US Fifth Fleet commanders in Bahrain.

The IRGC has also expanded its targets to include economic infrastructure linked to US military supply chains.

On March 28, in a coordinated missile and drone operation, Iran struck the Emirates Aluminum (EMAL) plant in the UAE, the world’s longest aluminum production line, and the Aluminum Bahrain (ALBA) plant, which operates with American investment and plays a significant role in supplying US military industries.

The attack came in response to the US-Israeli attacks on Iran's industries, including against two main steel producers in Isfahan and Khuzestan provinces.

A-10 Warthogs Are Doing Bizarrely Long Strafing Runs In Iraq

A-10s making nine-second-long gun runs is absolutely not normal.

Videos have been going viral of A-10s doing strafing runs on targets in Iraq, largely focused on force protection of U.S. interests in the country. The threat from Iranian-aligned militias and other groups in Iraq has spiked since Operation Epic Fury began over four weeks ago. While seeing videos shot overseas of the Warthog using its GAU-8 30mm Avenger cannon is anything but new, the duration of some of the ‘trigger pulls’ shown certainly is.

One of these caught on camera appears to be roughly nine seconds long, with another being around six seconds long

We reached out to various Warthog pilots to get commentary on what we are seeing with these prolonged strafing runs. They all have said the same thing, that it definitely isn’t normal or really trained for.

Dale Stark (@dalestartA10), a veteran A-10 pilot, told us that “it’s usually two to three seconds.” The A-10’s gun does its job by squirting out 3,900 rounds per minute, or roughly 65 rounds per second. It can technically deplete its 1,174 magazine drum in around 18 seconds of fire. But this is usually done in short bursts. The nine second gun run seen in the video above would have emptied half the drum. Accuracy also degrades during longer strings of fire. “Correct, bullet dispersion increases as the barrel heats up” from sustained firing, Stark told us.

Another A-10 pilot said the videos are indeed an outlier, and that they think doing such a long strafing run could only possibly make sense under very unique circumstances, such as dealing with a target dispersed over a large area, such as a group of troops, and with little time for subsequent strafing runs. Another former A-10 pilot said just the sound of the gun could be an intended effect to scare away potential attackers, but that isn’t a usual tactic.

All said it was not what they train to do.

It’s also not clear why the gun was used in such a unique way when the A-10s have other ordnance that could potentially be brought to bear for greater effects. This includes everything from 500-pound guided bombs to laser-guided rockets to AGM-65 Maverick missiles.

Regardless, for ‘hog fans’ out there, seeing the A-10 in action during the swan song of its celebrated career is surely welcome, especially when some of the videos we are seeing showcase the aircraft’s most iconic feature in truly rare form.

The A-10’s activities during Operation Epic Fury also come as it appears that dozens more of the venerable attack jets are headed to the region to partake in the conflict. The timing is of special interest as a ground operation into Iranian territory could occur in the near future.

All of this comes as the USAF has demanded the A-10’s career comes to a close by the end of the decade, and has been pushing to retire the jets well before then, mainly due to concerns over the aircraft’s survivability. Still, its special capabilities are clearly in high demand, now apparently including extremely long-duration gun runs.

Chechen military units have announced their readiness to deploy to Iran to support the Iranian armed forces in the event of a US ground invasion, according to reports.

Their involvement is widely seen as a warning to Russia regarding the broader trajectory of the war, potentially linking its fate to the protracted war between Moscow and Kyiv.

In a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the UN Security Council on Monday, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, condemned Ukraine's admission that it has dispatched "hundreds of experts" to the region, stating that Kyiv is actively participating in the military aggression launched by the US and the Israeli regime against the Islamic Republic.

Spain has closed its airspace to American aircraft involved in military operations against Iran.

This move marks a significant escalation beyond Madrid’s previous refusal to allow the use of jointly operated military bases.

Defence Minister Margarita Robles confirmed the move on Monday.

“We don’t authorise either the use of military bases or the use of airspace for actions related to the war in Iran,” she told reporters in Madrid.

Spanish newspaper El Pais had first reported the news on Monday, citing military sources.

The closure, which compels US military planes to reroute around the Nato member state on their way to targets in the Middle East, does not apply to emergency situations, El Pais added.

Economy minister Carlos Cuerpo addressed the decision during an interview with radio Cadena Ser, while responding to questions about potential repercussions for relations with the United States.

He said: “This decision is part of the decision already made by the Spanish government not to participate in or contribute to a war which was initiated unilaterally and against international law.”

Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez has been a vocal critic of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, characterising them as both reckless and illegal.

President Donald Trump has previously threatened to impose a full US trade embargo on Madrid over its denial of access to Spanish bases for the conflict.

“Spain has been terrible,” Trump told reporters during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, adding: “We’re going to cut off all trade with Spain. We don’t want anything to do with Spain.”

He said he had told Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to “cut off all dealings” with Spain.

The US relocated 15 aircraft, including refuelling tankers, from the Rota and Moron military bases in southern Spain after the country’s Socialist leadership said it would not allow them to be used to attack Iran.

Mr Sanchez, for his part, has stood firm against the trade threats and has warned that the Iran war risks “playing Russian roulette” with millions of lives.

“We are not going to be complicit in something that is bad for the world and is also contrary to our values and interests, just out of fear of reprisals from someone,” he said in a televised address.

Italy refuses US aircraft use of Sicily base for Middle East operations, sources say

ROME, March 31 (Reuters) - Italy last week denied permission for U.S. military aircraft to land at the Sigonella air base in Sicily before heading to the ​Middle East, sources said on Tuesday, because Washington had not sought prior authorisation from the government in Rome.

According ‌to the Corriere della Sera daily, which first reported the news, "some U.S. bombers" had been due to land at the base in eastern Sicily before flying on to the Middle East, where the United States is at war with Israel against Iran.

The report did ​not specify when the aircraft were due to land but said permission was denied because the U.S. ​had not requested clearance and Italy's military leadership had not been consulted, as required ⁠under treaties governing the use of U.S. military installations in the country.

The source, who was not authorised to speak ​to the media and declined to be identified, confirmed the report to Reuters but did not specify how many ​aircraft were involved. A second source told Reuters that Italy refused permission on March 27.

"With reference to media reports regarding the use of military bases, the government reiterates that Italy acts in full compliance with existing international agreements and with the policy guidelines set out by ​the government to parliament," a government statement said.

It added all requests to use the facilities "are examined carefully, on ​a case-by-case basis" and said there were "no critical issues or frictions with international partners."

"Relations with the United States, in particular, are solid ‌and ⁠based on full and loyal cooperation."

The U.S. embassy in Rome had no immediate comment.

SPAIN CLOSES AIRSPACE

The decision came against a backdrop of tensions between Washington and some of its European allies over the war in Iran.

On Monday, Spain said it had closed its airspace to U.S. planes involved in attacks on Iran, a step beyond its previous refusal ​to allow the use of ​jointly operated military bases. ⁠Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has been among the most vocal critics of the U.S. and Israeli strikes.

By contrast, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has close ties with U.S. President ​Donald Trump and has so far refrained from taking a hard line against the ​Iran war, though ⁠she has vowed to seek parliamentary approval should Washington request the use of Italian bases.

Spain and Italy are both NATO members.

The prospect of the U.S. using its military installations in Italy for the war against Iran has sparked outrage, with ⁠centre-left opposition ​parties urging the government to block any such request.

"Minister Crosetto's decision ​to deny landing permission is a significant and appropriate step that confirms the validity of the concerns we raised," said Anthony Barbagallo, the Sicilian ​head of the centre-left Democratic Party (PD).
