Russian tanker carrying 100,000 tons of oil as humanitarian aid arrives in Cuba

The ship is currently awaiting unloading at the port of Mansas

MOSCOW, March 30. /TASS/. Russia’s tanker Anatoly Kolodkin carrying 100,000 tons of oil as humanitarian aid has arrived in Cuba, the Russian Transport Ministry reported.

"The Russian tanker Anatoly Kolodkin, carrying 100,000 tons of crude oil as humanitarian aid has arrived in Cuba," the report said.

The ship is currently awaiting unloading at the port of Matanzas.

Earlier, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilyov told reporters that Moscow is currently continuing to supply humanitarian cargoes to Cuba, including fuel.

The situation with fuel in Havana worsened following the US-led military operation in Venezuela on January 3 to capture President Nicolas Maduro. The country was one of Cuba’s main oil exporters. On January 29, the White House signed a decree allowing Washington to impose customs tariffs on goods from countries that supply oil to Cuba. It was also previously reported that the United States was not against periodic oil supplies to Cuba for humanitarian reasons by Russia and other countries.

Iran Army drones strike US radar stations, site for troops deployment in UAE

Iran’s Army says it has targeted the US radar stations and a site for the deployment of American military forces in the United Arab Emirates with invading drones, amid an ongoing unprovoked war of aggression by a US-Israeli military coalition against the Islamic Republic.

In a statement on Monday, the Army said its invading drones carried out strikes overnight targeting the enemy’s radar stations in the UAE, responsible for detecting and tracking Iran’s missiles and combat drones.

In its latest wave of retaliatory strikes against American military assets in the region, the Army’s explosive drones also hit US troop positions in the Emirates.

Since the United States and the Israeli regime started unprovoked military aggression against Iran on February 28, Iranian ballistic missiles and drones have repeatedly hit US facilities in the Persian Gulf countries and the Israeli-occupied territories.

Iran’s Army drones strike sensitive locations in strategic Haifa port

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said on Sunday that it hit and destroyed a Boeing E3 Sentry surveillance aircraft belonging to the US Air Force in a retaliatory attack against a US-run military installation in Saudi Arabia.

Images circulated on social media platforms show that an Iranian projectile has hit the most important and sensitive section of the aircraft near its tail, where the expensive AN/APY2 reconnaissance radar is lifted.

This came after the IRGC said a warehouse storing Ukrainian anti-drone systems was destroyed in a missile operation in Dubai, the UAE.

Haifa refinery hit in latest Iranian missile barrage, Bazan group confirms

In earlier barrages, missile shrapnel struck the facility, causing localized damage and temporary power disruptions, though no casualties were reported.

An impact was reported in Haifa during the latest Iranian missile barrage on Israel on Monday, with initial indications pointing to a strike or falling debris in the city’s industrial zone.

The impact area included infrastructure at the Bazan oil refinery, the company confirmed, which has been targeted in previous attacks.

In earlier barrages, missile shrapnel struck the facility, causing localized damage and temporary power disruptions, though no casualties were reported.

"Search and rescue forces, both reserve and regular forces, are on their way to a site in northern Israel where reports of impact have been received," the IDF said in a statement.

The Environmental Protection Ministry told Ma'ariv that a gasoline tank is burning in the refinery complex, producing thick smoke, but with no risk to the population in the area from a hazardous materials incident.

The Haifa municipality later confirmed that there was no suspicion of hazardous materials in the area, and no danger to the public.

Residents near the complex were asked to close windows in their homes and not stay outside.

Tehran targets Ne'ot Hovav industrial zone

On Sunday, an Iranian missile impacted in the industrial zone of Ne'ot Hovav, starting a fire and potentially causing a leak of hazardous chemicals.

The Environmental Protection Ministry stated that the possibility of hazardous chemicals leaking was being investigated, but that at this stage, there was no expected risk to nearby towns in the Ramat Negev Regional Council.

Israeli media reported that one person was lightly wounded by the shockwave.

Citing First Amendment, federal judge blocks Trump order to end funding for NPR and PBS

By The Associated Press

March 31, 2026 at 3:58 pm EDT

(Charles Dharapak/AP)

WASHINGTON — Citing the First Amendment, a federal judge on Tuesday agreed to permanently block the Trump administration from implementing a presidential directive to end federal funding for National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting Service, two media entities that the White House has said are counterproductive to American priorities.

The operational impact of U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss’ decision was not immediately clear — both because it will likely be appealed and because too much damage to the public-broadcasting system has already been done, both by the president and Congress.

Moss ruled that President Donald Trump’s executive order to cease funding for NPR and PBS is unlawful and unenforceable. The judge said the First Amendment right to free speech “does not tolerate viewpoint discrimination and retaliation of this type.”

“It is difficult to conceive of clearer evidence that a government action is targeted at viewpoints that the President does not like and seeks to squelch,” wrote Moss, who was nominated to the bench by President Barack Obama, a Democrat.

Punishment for ‘past speech’ cited in decision

The judge noted that Trump’s executive order simply directs that all federal agencies “cut off any and all funding” to NPR, which is based in Washington, and PBS, based in Arlington, Virginia.

“The Federal Defendants fail to cite a single case in which a court has ever upheld a statute or executive action that bars a particular person or entity from participating in any federally funded activity based on that person or entity’s past speech,” the judge wrote.

Last year, Trump, a Republican, said at a news conference he would “love to” defund NPR and PBS because he believes they’re biased in favor of Democrats.

“The message is clear: NPR and PBS need not apply for any federal benefit because the President disapproves of their ‘left wing’ coverage of the news,” Moss wrote.

NPR accused the Corporation for Public Broadcasting of violating its First Amendment free speech rights when it moved to cut off its access to grant money appropriated by Congress. NPR also claims Trump wants to punish it for the content of its journalism.

“Public media exists to serve the public interest — that of Americans — not that of any political agenda or elected official,” said Katherine Maher, NPR’s president and CEO. She called the decision a decisive affirmation of the rights of a free and independent press.

PBS chief Paula Kerger said she was thrilled with the decision. The executive order, she said, is “textbook” unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination and retaliation. “At PBS, we will continue to do what we’ve always done: serve our mission to educate and inspire all Americans as the nation’s most trusted media institution.”

Last August, CPB announced it would take steps toward closing itself down after being defunded by Congress.

A victory, though incremental, for press freedom

Plaintiffs’ attorney Theodore Boutrous said Tuesday’s ruling is “a victory for the First Amendment and for freedom of the press.”

“As the Court expressly recognized, the First Amendment draws a line, which the government may not cross, at efforts to use government power — including the power of the purse — ‘to punish or suppress disfavored expression’ by others,” Boutrous said in a statement. “The Executive Order crossed that line.”

The judge agreed with government attorneys that some of the news outlets’ legal claims are moot, partly because the CPB no longer exists.

“But that does not end the matter because the Executive Order sweeps beyond the CPB,” Moss added. “It also directs that all federal agencies refrain from funding NPR and PBS — regardless of the nature of the program or the merits of their applications or requests for funding.”

NPR and three public radio stations sued administration officials last May. While Trump was named as a defendant, the case did not include Congress — and the legislative body has played a large role in the public-broadcasting saga in the past year.

Trump’s executive order immediately cut millions of dollars in funding from the Education Department to PBS for its children’s programming, forcing the system to lay off one-third of the PBS Kids staff. The Trump order didn’t impact Congress’ vote to eliminate the overall federal appropriations for PBS and NPR, which forced the closure of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the entity that funneled that money to the TV and radio networks.
