"Joel: First, Muslims revere Jesus. In fact, He’s arguably the most revered prophet in Islam—second only to Muhammad. Muslims believe that Abraham, Moses, and the Old Testament writings were from God, but that they were later changed.

However, the Quran itself never says the Scriptures were changed. That idea developed later, as Muslim scholars tried to explain why the Jewish and Christian scriptures didn’t fully align with Islamic teaching.

Interestingly, the Quran commands Muslims to read the Injil, the Arabic term for the Gospels or the New Testament. So Muhammad himself told followers to read the New Testament. Later scholars tried to argue that the version available today was altered, but that’s not what Muhammad said."

"Joel: Now, let’s look at what the Quran actually says about Jesus. Many of these details come from Surah 3, “The Family of Imran.” Imran, according to Muhammad, was Mary’s father. So, this chapter tells the story of Mary, her family, and the birth of Jesus.

The Quran begins by saying that God chose Zechariah and his wife to have a miraculous child, even though she was barren. That child was John the Baptist.

Zechariah was given a sign: he would be unable to speak until his son was born. This mirrors the biblical story exactly.

The Quran says that John’s role was to prepare the way for Jesus. So far, that matches Scripture almost word for word.

Then it says that God chose the virgin Mary to be His servant and to give birth to Jesus. Angels announced His birth.

Jesus is called the Messiah—yes, that’s the specific term used.

The Quran teaches that Jesus would be honored around the world, that He would teach truth, and that He would be righteous and sinless.

God would teach Him what to say—and, notably, what to say from the Torah, meaning the Old Testament.

It also calls Jesus the straight path and a prophet sent by God.

The Quran acknowledges that Jesus had disciples.

It lists several miracles: healing the blind, cleansing lepers, and even raising the dead.

It states that unbelievers plotted against Jesus, but that God had the better plan.

Finally, it declares that those who reject Jesus will be punished for eternity, while those who believe in Him will be elevated forever."
