CNN started in 1980, and the reason it grew so quickly is because they had two wars, Falklands and Beirut, to broadcast live from.
During the Beirut conflict, CNN interviewed a Marine Colonel, who told the CNN reporter all of his plans to attack a heavily fortified Hezbollah building, in an extremely profanity filled diatribe, that spurred the US to introduce compulsory "media training" for its armed forces commanders, ie no swearing, and no disclosure of plans.
The next day the Marines attacked the Hezbollah positions, it was a high rise office block, only to find them completely deserted, apparently it hadn't occurred to the Marine idiot who told the whole world what his plans were the day before, that Hezbollah might also have been listening, and were ready for the US attack.
What happened is that Hezbollah had tunnels dug between the office buildings and they evacuated one building, and occupied the buildings adjacent to the target, and just when the Americans began to think, WTF, they opened fire from these concealed positions, and utterly devastated the Marine battalion who went in.
A full strength Marine battalion is about 440 strong, but about 100 of those are staff, logistic, etc, so about 330 went in; of those 220 were killed in about 3 minutes, and some of the dozens or so missing ended up on various snuff movies, that Hezbollah were famous for in those days.
Hezbollah graciously withdrew, so the Americans could take out the dead, and what the Americans did next is degusting.
They took the dead, put them in freezers, and then faked the bombing, claiming that the cowardly hezbollah bombed the barracks, etc , but the reality was, the marines got their asses kicked in one of the most brutal ass raping's in military history.
I watched that interview, I know what I saw.
And everything the US military says is a lie, and you all know it.
