Driver in custody, accused of hitting parade crowd at La. Lao New Year Festival

NEW IBERIA, La. (WAFB) - Emergency crews are responding to a scene in New Iberia after a driver slammed into a crowd during a parade, Acadian Ambulance confirmed.
According to KATC, our news partners in Lafayette, the driver is in custody. Iberia Parish Sheriffโs Office says they do not seem to be an intentional act. [SIC]

Deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office are currently investigating an incident that occurred at the corner of Savannakhet and Melancon Road involving a vehicle that struck multiple pedestrians during a parade.
Several individuals sustained injuries, some of which are believed to be serious. The driver is currently in custody.
Based on the preliminary investigation, this does not appear to be an intentional act.
