I had Mumps, Measles, Chicken Pox and Rubella (Scarlet Fever) as a kid. Mom sent us down the street to play with the Haskell kids each time they got one of the first three. Kek. Mom wanted us to get them over with before school started back in the fall.
The treatment for measles and chicken pox was baking soda baths to soothe the itching. Mumps was ice cream cuz it was easy to swallow and felt cool on swollen adenoids. Certainly nothing to lose your shit over or terrify children over. We considered them normal childhood afflictions. Much more likely to die riding our bikes like little Evel Knievels with no helmets or pads. We'd have shamed out helmet and pad kids mercilessly! Kek
