Over 100 Loudoun Jail Inmates Released to ICE In First 3 Months of 2026

Over one hundred people have been turned over to federal immigration authorities from the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center so far this year.
In a statement, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Director of Media RelationsTom Julia told Loudoun Now that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued 194 immigration detainers for inmates being held at the ADC between January 1 and April 5.
Detainers are issued by ICE when a person already being held at a local jail is subject to an immigration warrant. Julia said the inmates were all being held at the ADC on “charges unrelated to immigration status” when ICE issued the detainers.
Through its 287(g) agreement with ICE, the LCSO will hold inmates wanted by ICE for up to 48 hours after their scheduled release from custodyon their non-immigration charges to allow the immigration agents time to take them into federal custody.
So far this year, out of the 194 detainers, Julia said 103 people have been picked up by ICE agents at the jail.
That would put Loudoun on track to release roughly 400 people to ICE this year, significantly more than the 253 released to ICE in 2025. However, that might not happen because of a recent order by Gov. Abigail Spanberger that Sheriff Mike Chapman told lawmakers last month might end Loudoun’s cooperation with ICE.
