little kids getting gunned down on our streets became "normal". The cokehead epidemic was so out of control that there wasn't one kid anon grew up with ( in a nice neighborhood where we alll went to church & had strict parentS), who wasn't a fuckin cokehead. Many kinds our family knew OD'd. Even look at baseball back then. The druggies would get slaps-on-the-wrists (see 7X Steve Howe, Dwight Gooden, the '86 Mets, etc.) and chill out at Smithers while gamblin' Pete Rose got banned as we played the numbers & could hit the casinios (AC, Vegas) every day if we could get there.
Knew a cop who would tell how the druggies would send toddlers out in the middle of the night with the drugs in their clothes - sometimes DIAPERS, no fucking joke - to the cars waiting outside. Was actually driven through such a a neighborhood by a cop, c. 1986, where they did it all in broad daylight.
While we were all enjoying the music & being young: Social Security was taxed;
The Fairness Doctrine was eliminated;
The mental institutions were let out onto the STREETS with NO plan in place (same as reagan had done in CA. decades earlier); etc, ETC.
fuck reagan & fuck the '80s. Best friends in highschool are full-blown Communists today.
