Remember this guy? The Spanish navy captain who somehow fell overboard in Antarctica without any witnesses? Well, I've been obsessing about this since it happened, and I found some interesting tidbits:
It actually wasn't his ship that he fell from, and he wasn't part of the crew. He was on that ship to participate in a scientific project for the Galileo Satellite in Antarctica, and he was apparently alone on deck. See last paragraph: https://www.maritimeherald.com/2018/spanish-military-man-dies-antarctic-accidentally-falls-sea/
The EU's Galileo satellite project:
-
Will NOT be controlled by the military
-
Will deliver location data accurate to within centimetres
-
Was partially funded by CHINA to the tune of 230 million euros

So, a Spanish naval captain not doing his normal Antarctic run on his own ship, but working on an EU satellite project that's NOT for the military? I think I need to learn Spanish so I can dig deeper into this guy's connections.
