DOJ Opens Criminal Investigation Into J6 Committee Star Witness Cassidy Hutchinson

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has opened a criminal investigation into Cassidy Hutchinson, the former White House staffer who made a number of false claims about President Donald Trump before the January 6 Committee in June 2022.

The probe, led by the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division under Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, began in early April 2026 after a criminal referral from Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.).

In December 2024, the House Administration’s Oversight Subcommittee, which is chaired by Loudermilk, released a 128-page interim report concluding that the J6 star witness had lied under oath and that the Select Committee knew her outrageous claims were false when they publicly promoted her.

In a December 17, 2024 press release, Loudermilk referred former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wy.) to the Department of Justice for an investigation into “potential criminal witness tampering based on the new information about her communication.”

Loudermilk accused Cheney of colluding with then-media darling Hutchinson without her attorney’s knowledge.

Hutchinson had testified that President Trump was aware that his supporters had weapons on the morning of January 6 but didn’t care because they weren’t there to hurt him.

She also falsely claimed that Trump tried to seize the wheel of the presidential limo and lunged at his former security detail when the Secret Service would not drive him to join protesters at the Capitol.

Loudermilk’s report concluded:

President Trump did not attack his Secret Service Detail at any time on January 6.

President Trump did not have intelligence indicating violence on the morning of January 6.

Cassidy Hutchinson falsely claimed to have drafted a handwritten note for President Trump on January 6.

Representative Cheney and Cassidy Hutchinson baselessly attempted to disbar Hutchinson’s former attorney.

Loudermilk’s report accused Cheney of “using the January 6 Select Committee as a tool to attack President Trump, at the cost of investigative integrity and Capitol security.”

As of now, the Justice Department has not announced any investigation into Cheney, and the report’s recommendations remain unacted upon by federal prosecutors.

Arizona State Senate President Warren Petersen has officially referred Attorney General Kris Mayes and Secretary of State Adrian Fontes to the U.S. Department of Justice for criminal obstruction of justice and witness tampering, directly tied to the Trump administration’s ongoing criminal investigation into the 2020 presidential election.

Petersen dropped the hammer on Tuesday, announcing on X that he had sent a formal criminal referral to the U.S. Attorney for Arizona after Mayes and Fontes, after the two sent threatening letters demanding details on what records Petersen turned over to federal investigators pursuant to a grand jury subpoena.

The controversy centers around a federal grand jury investigation tied to records from Arizona’s 2020 election and the Maricopa County audit.

The Gateway Pundit reported last month that the FBI has quietly seized Maricopa County election data and voting records via a grand jury subpoena.

The probe reportedly involves allegations from the 2024 election that Runbeck Election Services, the private company that provides ballot printing and mail-in ballot services in 31 states and 54% of the nation’s voters, allegedly commingled voted ballots with blank ballots in multiple states. US Rep. Abe Hamadeh previously alerted the Department of Justice to these findings and demanded an investigation.

This also comes after the 2020 and 2022 elections, during which hundreds of thousands of mail-in ballots were counted without chain-of-custody documentation and with mismatched signatures.

Petersen alleges that Mayes and Fontes attempted to interfere with that investigation by:

Suggesting that turning over voter data could be illegal

Moscow backs Tehran on status of Lebanon in US-Iran deal

Moscow believes the US-Iran ceasefire has a regional dimension and extends to Lebanon, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told his Iranian counterpart Abbas Aragchi in a phone call on Thursday, according to a readout.

Lavrov stated that Russia fully supports the cessation of hostilities between the US and Iran and Israel’s accession to those agreements. He expressed hope for the success of the upcoming negotiations and reaffirmed Moscow’s readiness to help “overcome the consequences of the unprovoked US‑Israeli aggression against Iran and ensure long-term peace and sustainable security in the region.”

The Russian minister also emphasized that Moscow “firmly believes that these agreements, as announced by the Pakistani mediators, have a regional dimension and, in particular, extend to Lebanon.”

Israel has insisted that Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire deal and said it intends to continue operations in the country, where it has conducted extensive airstrikes and launched a ground invasion.

Shortly after the US-Iranian ceasefire was announced, the Israeli military said it carried out its largest wave of strikes on Lebanon since the war began, hitting approximately 100 targets across the country in just ten minutes.

More than 1,700 people have been killed in Israeli strikes since March 2, and over 5,800 have been wounded, including hundreds of women and children, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.

Iran has made clear that Lebanon must be included in any cessation of hostilities. It has also warned that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed to shipping until Israel commits to a ceasefire on all fronts.

Araghchi thanked Lavrov for Russia’s “principled position” during UN Security Council meetings on the situation in the Persian Gulf, according to the ministry. The two diplomats also discussed broader regional security issues.

Moscow has consistently condemned the US‑Israeli campaign against Iran, which began on February 28. Russia has called for de‑escalation and a diplomatic solution, while accusing Washington of violating international law.

The Kremlin has also criticized Israel’s strikes on Lebanon, including a March attack on a Russian cultural center in the southern city of Nabatieh.

On Wednesday, state-owned broadcaster France 24 reported on a study by NGO AI Forensics that said nearly 25,000 users in Spanish and Italian Telegram groups had shared thousands of images of naked women, often in exchange for money, while also engaging in doxxing and harassment of women.

The study said the images and videos were sourced from platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, with Telegram acting as “a hub” for organizing and circulating abusive content.

It added the platform’s privacy features such as end-to-end encryption and paid access to channels enabled abusive behavior to develop with a high degree of security and impunity.

AI Forensics blamed Telegram for failure to clampdown on such groups and advised the EU to classify it as a “very large online platform” (VLOP), which allows for stricter oversight under the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA).

In his response to the France 24 article on Thursday, Durov described as “crazy” the suggestion that his platform “is a PROBLEM because people can discuss content from OTHER social media in PRIVATE Telegram groups.”

However, the narrative by AI Forensics, which is “a Soros-funded contractor to the European Commission,” is being widely distributed by the press, including “globalist outlets” like El Pais, Der Spiegel and Wired along with French media, he said in a post on Telegram.

“I doubt anyone still takes these organizations seriously – most of them lost people’s trust during the COVID era. But it’s important to call out all such attempts at public manipulation, because they are used to take away what's left of our freedoms,” the Russian-born tech mogul stressed.

Durov is currently facing legal proceedings in France after being arrested and spending several days behind bars in Paris in 2024 on allegations that Telegram failed to deter criminal activity on the platform. The entrepreneur maintains that his prosecution is politically motivated.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk is seeking to have OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and President Greg Brockman fired as part of his lawsuit against the artificial intelligence giant, court documents filed on Tuesday show.

The mogul sued OpenAI in 2024, accusing it of defrauding him of $38 million in initial funding he contributed when co-founding the company in 2015, under the understanding that it would remain a nonprofit. The AI startup, valued at $852 billion, restructured late last year, and is now run as a nonprofit that holds a 26% stake in its for-profit arm, which includes ChatGPT.

Musk’s lawyers are seeking to “strip Sam Altman and Greg Brockman of their positions of authority and the personal financial benefits they extracted from OpenAI’s illicit for-profit operations and conversion,” according to the latest filing.

Both arms of OpenAI also need to honor commitments to “safety-first AI development and open research for the broad benefit of humanity,” Musk’s legal team said. Any damages awarded would go to the AI company’s nonprofit arm, according to the amended complaint. The case is set to go to trial later this month.

OpenAI has in turn accused Musk of attempting to discredit the company through “wholly unfounded allegations,” and has reportedly alleged that he is colluding with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to undermine competition.

Musk left OpenAI in 2018 due to disagreements with Altman, bought Twitter (now X) in 2022, and launched his own artificial intelligence firm xAI the following year.

In February, xAI and OpenAI announced deals with the Pentagon to integrate their artificial intelligence tools into the US military’s classified systems. Altman claimed that his company agreed to cooperate under the condition that its tools would not be used for mass surveillance and fully autonomous weapons.

However, these same two conditions have been non-negotiable for the Pentagon in its row with Anthropic, the US military’s previous go-to for AI needs. The US Department of War officially designated Anthropic a supply chain risk that threatens national security, after the tech company refused to remove safeguards from its Claude model.

Anthropic’s newest AI model is “extremely autonomous,” can reason like an advanced security researcher and is far too powerful for public release, the company claimed on Wednesday, as it continues to fight the Pentagon in court.

U.S. Government to Automatically Register Eligible Young Men for Military Draft Later This Year

The federal government will begin registering eligible young men for the U.S. military draft later this year — shifting from the longstanding requirement men self-register after turning 18 to a new system using existing federal data to automatically enroll them.

Starting in December, the U.S. government will begin automatically registering eligible young men for the Selective Service System (SSS) — the federal agency that maintains a national database of men between 18 and 25 years old for a potential military draft in case of a national emergency, according to a report by Military Times.

The Selective Service System submitted the “automatic registration” rule change to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs on March 30. Congress approved automatic registration for the draft late last year as part of the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act.

“This statutory change transfers responsibility for registration from individual men to SSS through integration with federal data sources,” the agency said on its website.

“SSS will implement the change by December 2026, resulting in a streamlined registration process and corresponding workforce realignment,” the agency added.

Currently, most men ages 18 to 25 are already required to register with the Selective Service System in case a military draft is authorized, under federal law.

Eligible young men are mandated to self-register within 30 days after they turn 18, with failure to do so resulting in a felony.

“Failure to register with Selective Service is a violation of the Military Selective Service Act,” the SSS states on its website. “Conviction for such a violation may result in imprisonment for up to five years and/or a fine of not more than $250,000.”

Moreover, those who fail to register “may be ineligible for opportunities important to his future,” the agency adds, citing the potential to be denied student loans, government jobs, and U.S. citizenship — if they are immigrants.

In recent years, registration for the draft has decreased, partly due to the option to register having been removed from federal student loan forms in 2022, which accounted for nearly a quarter of all previous registrations, Military Times noted.

Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), who sponsored the automatic draft registration language in the 2026 defense policy bill, argued the legislation “will allow us to rededicate resources — basically that means money — towards [readiness] and towards mobilization, rather than towards education and advertising campaigns driven to register people.”

Women are still exempt from draft registration, despite some attempts from lawmakers.

The Selective Service System was established in 1917 by President Woodrow Wilson after the Unites States entered World War I.

The Unites States hasn’t activated the draft since the Vietnam War in 1973, and has relied on volunteers ever since.

Despite once claiming he would be too busy to play golf, Trump is on track to leave taxpayers with a bill exceeding $300 million in travel and security expenses—much of it tied to frequent trips to his Florida properties. Each visit to Mar-a-Lago costs an estimated $3.4 million.

Meanwhile, taxpayers are shelling out $273,063 per hour to keep Air Force One in the air.

And while millions of Americans struggle to afford basic necessities, Trump is demanding $377 million—an 866 percent increase—to renovate the White House residence.

But these excesses, outrageous as they are, pale in comparison to the true cost of this administration’s priorities: war.

The Trump administration has requested $1.5 trillion for its FY 2027 military budget—separate from an additional $200 billion in emergency funding for the war in Iran.

The sitting president of the United States is spending money that is not his to spend in order to fight endless wars unauthorized by Congress that do nothing to protect the American people or our interests, while insisting that the federal government’s only priority should be the military industrial complex.

The president’s fiscal priorities include:

$65.8 billion for Navy shipbuilding, including a new “Trump-class” Golden Fleet battleship.

Pay raises for military troops, while freezing pay raises for civilian federal workers.

$152 million to start rebuilding Alcatraz as a working federal prison.

$10 billion for beautification projects in Washington, D.C.

DNC panel rejects AIPAC-specific resolution, advances broader measure condemning dark money

A Democratic National Committee (DNC) panel voted on Thursday to reject a resolution condemning “the growing influence” of dark money and corporate-backed outside spending in Democratic races, particularly the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

At the DNC’s spring meeting in New Orleans this week, the resolutions committee voted to kill the push, which would have been nonbinding, as scrutiny over the pro-Israel lobby grows amid the midterms.

“The use of massive outside spending to support or oppose candidates based on their positions regarding international conflicts or foreign governments raises concerns about undue influence over democratic debate and policymaking, potentially constraining elected officials’ ability to represent the views of their constituents,” reads the resolution, submitted by Florida DNC member Allison Minnerly, pointing out AIPAC in particular for spending some $14 million in the Illinois Democratic primaries last month.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D), who was once an AIPAC donor, condemned the group after the primaries — joining a growing number of Democrats once supportive of AIPAC who have turned on the political powerhouse over its involvement in elections this year.

While the panel on Thursday voted to recommend a broader resolution condemning the influence of dark money in the 2026 Democratic primary elections, it did not specifically call for AIPAC contributions to be rejected, though the attitude was largely implied.

The resolution calls for “robust” campaign finance transparency and says the DNC “reaffirms its commitment to campaign finance practices that align with the Party’s core values.” It further adds that the aspects of the resolution “shall inform the development of the 2028 Democratic Party Platform.”

The AIPAC resolution’s failure to advance out of the DNC committee shows that while there is an appetite within the party to take a more forceful stance against the organization — an influential pro-Israel group whose opposition against conditions on aid to Israel has made it more divisive in races more recently — it’s not one that many DNC members are comfortable standing behind.

The DNC resolution panel’s rejection of the resolution means it will not go before the full body for a final vote on Friday. Still, AIPAC remains a wedge issue for the party.

The Israel-Hamas conflict became a focal point in the 2024 Democratic primary, as portions of the electorate voted “uncommitted” or a version of that answer against former President Biden’s initial reelection bid over anger with the administration’s policy in the region.

Government approves a record 34 new settlements, as it acts to deepen hold on West Bank

Security cabinet decision constitutes largest number of settlements okayed by any government at one time, brings total number approved by current government to 103

The security cabinet approved the establishment of 34 new West Bank settlements in a meeting two weeks ago, The Times of Israel has confirmed.

The approval of the new settlements — brand new settlements as well as illegal ones retroactively legalized — constitutes the largest number of settlements approved by any government at one time, the Peace Now organization said.

Security cabinet meetings and their decisions are classified, and there has been no official confirmation of the decision to approve the 34 new settlements by the government.

According to the i24 News site, which first reported the story earlier Thursday, some of the slated new settlements are located in areas of the northern West Bank isolated from other Israeli settlements but deep among Palestinian population centers, albeit still within Area C of the territory where Israel has full control.

The security cabinet decision brings the total number of settlements approved by the current government to 103 since it took office in 2022.

This amounts to a 78 percent increase in the total number of government-approved settlements in the three and a half years of the current government’s tenure, said Peace Now, which strongly opposes the settlement movement.

By comparison, only six new settlements were formally approved by Israel in the 30 years between the signing of the Oslo Accords in 1993 and the establishment of the current government.

Only a handful of the 103 newly approved settlements have received approval through the Civil Administration’s planning processes, meaning that they have yet to be fully authorized.

But as part of its efforts to dramatically increase the number of Israelis living in the West Bank, the current government has greatly streamlined and expedited those approval processes.

According to i24, the security cabinet decision provides for the establishment of water and electricity infrastructure for the new settlements even before their approval by the Civil Administration.

At present, some 144 settlements have been authorized by both the government and the Civil Administration, according to Peace Now numbers. That figure would grow to 235 if all the 103 new settlements approved by the current government are ultimately authorized.

A map published by i24 showed that the new settlements are spread across the entire West Bank.

Ynet reported that during the security cabinet meeting in question, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir expressed deep concern that the approval of the new settlements would further stretch the IDF’s already severely strained manpower resources due to the need to provide them with military protection.

The Yesh Din organization, which campaigns against the settlements, alleged that the approval of the new settlements is designed to advance the “ethnic cleansing” of the West Bank.

Hicks, who worked at JPL from 1998 to 2022, was credited with publishing over 80 scientific papers and was part of multiple teams helping NASA understand the physical properties of comets and asteroids.

Specifically, Hicks was involved with the DART Project, NASA’s test to see if humans could deflect dangerous asteroids away from Earth. He also worked on the Deep Space 1 Mission, which tested new spacecraft technology that flew by a comet in 2001.

While there have been no public allegations of foul play, Hicks’ case marks the ninth person with ties to America’s space or nuclear secrets who has died or mysteriously vanished in recent years, which has set off alarm bells among US national security experts.

Moreover, three of these scientists had close ties to Hicks, as all of them worked at the Jet Propulsion Lab or participated in NASA missions there. Migrants 'to be handed 40 per cent of new homes by 2030'

Nearly four in 10 new homes built by 2030 will be needed to accommodate migrants arriving in Britain, according to fresh analysis.

The research, conducted by the Conservative Party, draws on projections from the Office for Budget Responsibility’s (OBR) latest Economic and Fiscal Outlook.

According to the OBR, net migration between 2026 and 2030 is expected to reach almost 1.2 million people.

Using ONS data on average household size, the Conservatives estimate this would require around just under 500,000 additional homes for new arrivals alone.

Britain is projected to deliver about 1.34 million new homes over the same period.

The Conservatives say this means 37.1 per cent of all homes built over the next five years would be needed to house migrants.

By 2030, that proportion is forecast to rise to 39.1 per cent.

Government figures also suggest migration-driven demand could increase property prices by around £9,489 per home.

Bahrain Reports Fresh Drone Attack Day After Suspected Emirate Strike On Iran

Bahrain said that it intercepted and destroyed seven drones launched from Iran on April 9, just a day after the Islamic Republic and the United States agreed on a two-week ceasefire.

No details were given about injuries or damage from the alleged Iranian attacks. Nevertheless, the Bahraini Defense Force said in a statement that it had intercepted 194 missiles and 515 drones since the start of the war on Iran more than a month ago.

Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates all reported attacks from Iran hours after the ceasefire came into effect a day earlier. There were also reports of an attack on a crucial oil pipeline leading to Read Sea terminals in Saudi Arabia.

The missile and drone attacks were apparently a response to a strike that targeted a refinery on Iran’s Lavan Island. The strike also took place after the ceasefire. Both the U.S. and Israel denied responsibility, with later evidence indicating that the strike may have been carried out by the UAE.

A photo that surfaced on social media purportedly showed a Mirage 2000-9 fighter jet of the UAE Air Force that was involved in the strike. The images have not been independently verified.

The UAE Ministry of Defense confirmed earlier in the day that its Mirage jets had been scrambled, framing their role as intercepting incoming Iranian drones and missiles.

The exchange of the strikes in the Gulf had no impact on the ceasefire. Plans for talks between Iranian and American officials in Pakistan on April 10 appear to be still in place.

Still, the latest strikes show that the ceasefire is fragile, and confirm that some sides are not pleased by the agreement reached.

A new anti-Zionist PAC has endorsed candidates who believe Jews were behind 9/11

Founded last summer, AZAPAC has endorsed fringe candidates across the political spectrum, from both Republican and Democratic parties, as well as independents.

A new group opposing AIPAC is backing anti-Israel candidates across party lines. Some of its endorsees have blamed Israel and Jews for 9/11 and the Charlie Kirk assassination. Its founder claims Hamas’ October 7 attack was a “false flag” operation and has referred to Jewish people as “the Synagogue of Satan.”

This is the Anti-Zionist America PAC, or AZAPAC.

With a stated aim to “de-Zionize” the American government and end military aid to Israel, AZAPAC is unlike the other PACs that have recently popped up as a counterweight to AIPAC, the pro-Israel lobby that has poured millions of dollars into political races across the country.

Those groups - including American Priorities, PAL PAC, and Citizens Against AIPAC Corruption - are rallying their support around a brand of pro-Palestinian progressives in line with Congress’s left-wing “Squad” members. Michael Rectenwald, AZAPAC’s founder and a self-described libertarian, is taking a different approach.

“We’re not like leftist anti-Zionists, calling for ‘from the river to the sea’ and all this nonsense,” said Rectenwald in an interview. “We are not trying to say the State of Israel should not exist. That is not our concern. Our concern is the US government only, and what it’s doing.”

To that end, Rectenwald’s group, which was founded last summer, has endorsed fringe candidates across the political spectrum, from both Republican and Democratic parties, as well as independents. The primary criteria for endorsement, Rectenwald said, are that candidates will vote against aid to Israel and do not take money from pro-Israel lobbying groups.

AZAPAC’s spending has been relatively minimal (it had raised $111,556 by the end of 2025, according to FEC filings), but it taps into an ascendant set of sentiments, including a rising anti-Israel faction of Republicans, as well as the conspiracy-theory mindset increasingly occupying Americans of all stripes.

AZAPAC-endorsed candidates support antisemitic conspiracy theories

Some of the candidates it has endorsed have promoted conspiracy theories about Jews. Multiple AZAPAC-endorsed politicians believe that Jews were responsible for 9/11 and that Israel was behind the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Meanwhile, Rectenwald himself has taken to social media (and tried courting avowed antisemite Nick Fuentes) in an attempt to broaden the group’s reach, leaning into antisemitic tropes about Jews and Israel himself in the process.

“Don’t die for ‘israel’. Don’t die for the Syn@gogue of S@t@n,” he wrote in a since-deleted tweet in March about the war in Iran.

In another tweet, he wrote that “The Synagogue of Satan refers to those who are genetically Jewish but have rejected Christ and thus utterly forfeit the heavenly Jerusalem.”

He wrote that Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel was a “false flag” operation, and suggested that 9/11 was, as well.

In the group’s launch video, Rectenwald, narrating, called pro-Israel politicians “puppets” whose “strings are pulled by donors loyal to the modern nation state of Israel.”

Rectenwald’s gripe, he says, is the control that the pro-Israel lobby has over US politicians. “Every zionist in the US government should be tried for treason,” he wrote, adding in a reply that those politicians are more loyal to Israel than to America.

But his theories about Jews controlling governments have exceeded the bounds of the United States and Israel.

Former Ohio Senate Candidate Sentenced to Federal Prison for $4.5M Fraud Scheme

CLEVELAND – A 45-year-old man who embezzled millions from his employer and a local fraternal police organization—to fund a lavish lifestyle and his election campaign—has been sentenced to prison.

Jonathan Leissler, of Stow, Ohio, has been sentenced to 48 months (four years) in prison by U.S. District Judge Pamela A. Barker, after pleading guilty in December 2025 to three counts of Wire Fraud. He was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release after imprisonment and pay $4,421,154.54 in restitution.

According to court documents, in March 2022 Leissler was hired as the chief financial officer for an industrial supply company in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. In this role, he was entrusted to manage payroll, expenditures, accounts payable, and company credit cards. However, in his first month on the job—and despite already receiving a six-figure salary—he created fake payroll records to add unauthorized extra money to his paychecks in the form of bonuses, commissions, and other payments. Investigators determined that by November 2024 he stole $3.8 million across 70 pay periods.

While Leissler continued to add unauthorized payments to his paychecks, he was also using the company’s credit cards to make donations to his own election campaign in his bid for a seat on the Ohio Senate during the November 2024 general election. He utilized an online fundraising platform to collect more than $700,000—charged on the company’s credit cards—toward his failed election campaign. When his employer confronted him about the credit card charges, Leissler processed refunds from the fundraising platform. However, the online platform was left on the hook for refund amounts because he had already changed the bank connected to the account to a different one that did not exist.

Another source of funds Leissler accessed was through a local Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) organization. While serving as their treasurer, he was issued a debit card and checkbook for the FOP account, which he then used to write checks to himself, withdraw cash, and pay his personal credit card bills. Ultimately, he stole more than $50,000 from the FOP on 69 separate occasions. The amount accounted for 80% of the organization’s funds which had been earmarked to provide scholarships for the children of police officers.

Former DOE Employee Pleads Guilty to Stealing Dead Relative’s Pension

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Effie Mae Youmans, 71, of Columbia, has pleaded guilty to theft of public money by collecting pension benefits that she was not entitled to collect.

Evidence obtained in the investigation revealed the Savannah River Nuclear Site learned one of its retirees had died, but the individual’s pension benefits were still being received. According to SRNS’s investigator, no one informed SRNS of the retiree’s death at the time, so SRNS continued to make pension payments to the individual’s account. SRNS made 18 months of payments after the death, at a rate of $3,025 per month, totaling $54,450. Investigators determined Youmans, a relative of the retiree, withdrew the overpayment funds from the bank account. As an SRNS pension recipient herself, Youmans knew she was not entitled to the relative’s pension funds.

Fuel Executive Gets Five Year Prison Sentence for Defrauding U.S. Military in Contract Bid Scam

MIAMI – Jasen Butler, 38, of Jupiter, was sentenced today in West Palm Beach to 60 months in prison and criminal forfeiture by U.S. District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks. In January, a jury convicted Butler of 34 counts of wire fraud, forgery, and money laundering.

According to the evidence at trial, Butler, the owner of Independent Marine Oil Services LLC, corrupted the competitive bidding process for military fuel contracts and submitted dozens of falsified documents such as wire transfer memos and invoices to multiple U.S. warships between August 2022 and January 2024. These ships were attempting to purchase fuel in international ports in Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Croatia to defend strategic American interests around the globe. Butler received over $4.5 million dollars in payments for phony expenses that Butler had not incurred.

After Butler came under scrutiny by Navy officials, he continued his scheme by concealing his identity from government officials. Butler adopted a false name and feigned employment by a fictitious fuel division of a different company. Butler used the millions in the proceeds of his crimes to personally enrich himself and purchase multiple multi-million-dollar properties in Florida and Colorado. Judge Middlebrooks has entered a preliminary order of forfeiture for those properties.

“The defendant stole millions of dollars from our military with a fake job, fake identity, and fake invoices,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. “This administration takes defrauding the American military seriously with a prison sentence reflecting the seriousness of the crime.”

“The Defendant made his choice: to rip off the federal government and the Navy to line his own pockets. The Justice Department made its choice: to pursue maximum incarceration for the Defendant. In response, Judge Middlebrooks rightly ordered the Defendant imprisoned for 5 years,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Omeed A. Assefi of the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division. “The Antitrust Division and its wonderful staff have zero tolerance for those who seek to corrupt competition.”

“This sentence reflects the seriousness of what the evidence at trial showed: a calculated scheme that targeted the U.S. military for personal gain,” said U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida. “The defendant submitted false documents, stole millions in taxpayer funds, and then tried to hide behind a fake identity when scrutiny began.
