Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has lashed out at Spain over what he described as repeated opposition to Israel and the “defaming” of the military after Madrid slammed the IDF over the recent strikes in Lebanon.

Spanish officials, including Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, have been among the most vocal critics of the US-Israeli war against Iran, warning that further escalation would bring severe humanitarian and economic consequences. Last month, Spain closed its airspace to US aircraft linked to the war and permanently withdrew its ambassador from Israel, downgrading ties.

Spain has also condemned the Israeli strikes on Lebanon on April 8 – just hours after a two-week US-Iran ceasefire was announced – accusing the IDF of violating international law and breaching the truce.

The strikes – called ‘Operation Eternal Darkness’ – lasted ten minutes, but are considered the most intense aerial assault since the broader US-Israel war against Iran began on February 28. The IDF said it hit around 100 Hezbollah targets and killed over 180 militants. The Lebanese authorities said at least 357 people, mostly civilians, were killed and more than 1,223 were wounded.

Following the strikes, Sanchez slammed Netanyahu’s “contempt for life and international law,” calling it “intolerable” and urging Brussels to suspend the EU association agreement with Israel. Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares echoed the criticism, calling the strikes a “shame for the conscience of humanity” and accusing the IDF of “indiscriminate bombings” targeting civilians under the guise of fighting Hezbollah.

Further angering Israel, Albares announced on Thursday the reopening of the Spanish Embassy in Tehran and the return of its ambassador – a move he said is aimed at helping to de-escalate the war and support the peace talks in Pakistan.

Senior Iranian and US negotiators are in Islamabad for what Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called a “make-or-break moment” to turn the fragile ceasefire into a broader deal.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, leading Tehran’s delegation, said he arrived with goodwill tempered by deep mistrust, noting that the US attacked Iran “twice within less than a year” during negotiations. US Vice President J.D. Vance, leading the American team, said he expects productive talks but warned Iran not to “play” the US.

Washington Post Journalist Pleads Guilty In Child Porn Case

United States Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced Friday that a video editor for The Washington Post pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

Federal authorities arrested Thomas Pham LeGro in June 2025 for possessing child pornography after executing a search warrant at his home and seizing his personal electronic devices. LeGro worked for the Post for 18 years in two stints since 2000, according to the outlet.

Agents discovered a fractured hard drive hidden under a rug of LeGro’s basement during the search, according to the DOJ’s press release. They found a folder on his laptop that contained 11 videos depicting child sexual abuse, which depicted adult men sexually abusing prepubescent children and forcing them to engage in sexual acts.

The FBI Washington Field Office’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force is investigating the case, according to the DOJ. Assistant U.S. Attorney Caroline Burrell is prosecuting the case for the District of Columbia.

LeGro rejoined the Post as an editor on the breaking news desk after previously working part-time for the outlet during graduate school, according to the Mason Spirit. He later became a senior producer for the Post’s International, Style and Technology teams in 2015.

Ex-BBC employee convicted on child porn charges

Dylan Dawes was found guilty after “overwhelming evidence” was presented at Cardiff Crown Court

A UK jury has found former BBC producer Dylan Dawes guilty of downloading more than 6,000 child porn images.

The verdict was delivered at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, following a four-day trial. Dawes, who started working for the British public broadcaster in 2001, had pleaded not guilty to the three counts of possessing indecent images and three counts of making indecent images.

Dawes was arrested in 2022 after police officers raided his home and seized computers and storage devices, where they discovered the incriminating material, according to the Daily Express.

“During a period of time of about 16 years between December 31, 2006, and March 1, 2022, the defendant has been downloading child pornography” on four different devices, prosecutor Harry Baker reportedly told the court, adding that 192 of the images were category A – the most egregious kind.

Judge Eugene Egan said the jury found Dawes “guilty on what they found to be absolutely overwhelming evidence,” according to Wales Online.

The former BBC producer will be sentenced on May 14, and must now register as a sex offender.

The British state broadcaster has a growing record of employing and harboring pedophiles in its ranks.

Just last month, Scott Mills, one of the BBC’s highest-paid radio presenters, was axed following a reported renewed police investigation into sexual offenses against a teenage boy in the past.

Israel has been fighting Hezbollah in Lebanon since March 2, when the Iran-backed terror group started attacking the Jewish state with rockets and drones in support of its Iranian sponsor. Iran and Lebanon openly seek to destroy Israel.

“Innocent citizens are being killed by Israel, first Gaza, then Iran and now Lebanon, bloodletting continues unabated,” Asif continued.

The man credited with introducing President Donald Trump to first lady Melania Trump more than 20 years ago is facing controversy after The New York Times reported that he allegedly urged Immigration and Customs Enforcement to have the mother of his child detained amid a custody battle.

According to the Times, former modeling agent Paolo Zampolli — who now serves as the president's special envoy for global partnerships — allegedly called high-ranking ICE official David Venturella to ask for a favor after his ex-girlfriend, Amanda Ungaro, was arrested on fraud charges in Miami. Citing records and a source familiar with the conversation, the Times claimed Zampolli told Venturella that his Brazilian ex was in the country illegally and questioned whether she could be transferred to ICE detention to help him win custody of their teenage son.

The Times alleges that Venturella called ICE's Miami office to ensure that Ungaro, Grenada's former ambassador to the United Nations, was picked up by immigration agents before she was released from jail, emphasizing that the case was important to someone close to the White House.

Zampolli admitted to the Times that he reached out to Venturella after Ungaro was charged, but claimed the purpose of the call was to understand the implications of her arrest, not to have her intercepted by ICE. Venturella was a longtime private prison executive before landing his current government role.

“I asked David what was going on because I did not know the process,” Zampolli told the Times, claiming he could not recall whether he invoked his friendship with the Trump family. Working as a modeling agent in the 1990s, Zampolli helped bring the Slovenian-born future first lady to the United States and secure her visa. He introduced Donald to Melania in 1998 at New York’s Kit Kat Club.

Ungaro was ultimately detained and deported, though Zampolli said he was not involved. The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, firmly denied to the Times that she was targeted at Zampolli’s request. “Any suggestion that she was arrested and removed for political reasons or favors is FALSE,” the statement said.

Zampolli and ICE did not immediately respond to additional requests for comment from PEOPLE. As for whether Zampolli sought direct help from the Trumps, a spokesperson for Melania told PEOPLE in a statement that the first lady "has no knowledge of, or involvement in, the personal affairs of Mr. Zampolli and Ms. Ungaro," and that she has not had any contact with ICE.

Top US prosecutor exposed for hidden Epstein ties as abuse report stalled: report

A long-serving U.S. attorney and chief federal prosecutor for the state of New Mexico was exposed Friday for their previously undisclosed ties with Jeffrey Epstein, ties that veteran journalist Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez suggested could explain why a prominent Epstein survivor’s report about sexual abuse went unanswered.

That former federal prosecutor was John J. Kelly, a prominent attorney in Albuquerque, New Mexico who served as the U.S. attorney for the District of New Mexico from 1993 to 2000. In 2024, Kelly was asked by a local news outlet why his contact information appeared in Epstein’s contact directory, often referred to as Epstein’s “little black book.”

“I have no clue. You’ll have to ask Mr. Epstein,” Kelly told KOAT-TV Target 7, an affiliate of ABC News, more than four years after Epstein was found dead in his New York jail cell.

Recently unearthed documents from the Justice Department’s release of Epstein files, however, reveal that Kelly worked as Epstein’s power of attorney to help facilitate the purchase of the disgraced financier’s infamous Zorro Ranch property in early 1993, just months before he would be named the state’s chief federal law enforcement officer, Valdes-Rodriguez exclusively reported on her Substack, Alisa Writes.

“In the eyes of the state of New Mexico, Kelly was Epstein,” Valdes-Rodriguez wrote, noting that the revelation “directly [contradicted] his account of barely knowing Epstein.”

It was also during Kelly's tenure as New Mexico’s top federal prosecutor that then-16-year-old Annie Farmer filed a report with the FBI about being sexually abused by Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell at Zorro Ranch.

“According to reporting by the New York Times and the Guardian, the report, which protocol would require to be forwarded to Kelly’s offices, was never investigated,” Valdes-Rodriguez wrote. “No federal investigation of Zorro Ranch was ever opened during Kelly’s tenure.”

Kelly has not been charged with a crime. He did not respond to Valdes-Rodriguez’s request for comment.

Israeli police have arrested a Tel Aviv couple on suspicion of child sexual abuse at their unlicensed kindergarten, following multiple complaints from concerned parents.

Police have arrested a kindergarten director and her husband, both residents of Tel Aviv in their 60s, on suspicion of committing sexual offenses against children in their care.

The investigation began after the police received multiple complaints from parents who believed that the husband had engaged in sexual offenses against their children at the kindergarten, which operates out of the couple’s home.

Following the arrests, the police confirmed that the kindergarten was functioning without the proper permits from municipal authorities and the Education Ministry.

The suspects were taken for questioning at the Tel Aviv South Police Station and were subsequently brought before the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court for a hearing regarding the extension of their detention.

This case follows a growing trend of childcare scandals this year.

Two babies die at Jerusalem daycare

In an incident at a daycare center in Jerusalem’s Romema neighborhood in January, two babies died, and at least 55 more small children sustained injuries from respiratory distress after the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency services were called to the site.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities noted substandard conditions at the daycare center that may have contributed to the tragedy.

The director of Hadassah-University Medical Center, Prof. Yaniv Sherer, where many of the injured children were taken for treatment and observation, told Maariv that the injuries and deaths probably resulted from “some kind of poisoning, with or without a combination of crowding, fever, or dehydration.”

The Jerusalem daycare was also confirmed to be operating without the proper permits from municipal authorities and the Education Ministry.

The tragedy prompted the Knesset to push for the creation of a national authority under the Education Ministry to centralize the oversight of daycare centers.

UK announces major WW3 preparation as Brits warned 'get ready to fight'

Britain's head of the armed forces issued a dire warning.

The head of Britain's armed forces has revealed plans to prepare the UK for war amid a dire warning that the country is "really quite close to the threat of an armed conflict". Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton told Sky News an updated version of the Government War Book is being prepared.

The broadcaster reported on Friday that the plan would draw on lessons from the Cold War, but "in a modern context, with a modern society, with modern infrastructure". Meanwhile, Dr Rob Johnson, Director of the Changing Character of Conflict Centre at Oxford University, raised the spectre of an approaching armed conflict.

A majority of indicators of conflict preparation and armed attack on the expert's dashboard are now flashing, according to the broadcaster.

Dr Johnson said: "We're about 94%, 95% complete. In other words, we're really quite close to the threat of an armed conflict."

Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton said he thought it was right when asked if the Government War Book was being revised.

The top-secret war book was first developed during World War I. It was maintained throughout the Cold War and detailed how the UK would mobilise society in a crisis, from deploying armed forces to the rationing of supplies.

It was phased out in the early 2000s, following the Soviet Union's collapse in December 1991.

AMD's senior director of AI thinks 'Claude has regressed' and that it 'cannot be trusted to perform complex engineering'

Anthropic's Claude has reportedly gotten much worse at generating code recently. That's according to a head member of the AI Group at AMD.

Last week, user StellarAccident took to the Claude Code GitHub to vent their frustrations at Claude's AI-generated code. This account was soon discovered to be tied to Stellar Laurenzo, the senior director of AI at AMD, who linked to that GitHub account for a post on LinkedIn (via The Register) three weeks prior.

In their GitHub complaint, they state that "Claude has regressed to the point it cannot be trusted to perform complex engineering."

Laurenzo claims Claude performed better in January, and says it now ignores instructions, suggests fixes that are incorrect, directly contradicts requests and claims completion despite, well, not completing the task. Laurenzo is using the Opus model and claims the result they get is replicable with the same prompt.

What follows this is a report on what has changed since January and how to improve it, which is, rather ironically, generated by Claude. It argues that Claude shows its thinking less, and it 'thinks' less deeply now, often editing code before fully 'reading it'.

Users have been complaining about Claude's February update for some time now. Over on the Claude Code Subreddit, one user says, "I can no longer in good conscience recommend Claude Code to clients."

Google's AI search is producing millions of wrong answers every day

Testing suggests AI overviews are 90% accurate, but that remaining 10% adds up over trillions of queries per year

Most search engines now present users with AI-generated overviews by default, sparking controversy over concerns about accuracy and lost click-through traffic. While testing suggests that Google's AI overviews are accurate most of the time, the enormous volume of queries the search engine processes each day likely still results in millions of incorrect responses.

According to The New York Times, testing suggests that approximately one in 10 Google AI search overviews contains false information. Given that the search engine processes roughly 5 trillion queries per year, users could be exposed to more than 57 million inaccurate answers each hour – nearly 1 million per minute.

The figures come from AI startup Oumi, which the Times asked to evaluate Gemini's accuracy using SimpleQA, a widely used generative AI benchmark. After analyzing 4,326 Google searches, Oumi found that Google's AI assistant, Gemini version 2, produced accurate overviews 85 percent of the time in October. By February, Gemini 3 had improved that figure to 91 percent.

However, Oumi can evaluate large volumes of results only by relying on AI tools, which may also introduce errors. In addition, Google sometimes generates different AI overviews for the same query, even when it is repeated seconds apart.

A Google spokesperson called Oumi's testing flawed, arguing that it does not reflect real-world search behavior. The company's internal testing indicates that Gemini 3, when operating independently of Google Search, hallucinates 28 percent of the time.

Sourcing presents another challenge. Google attempts to support its AI overview results with relevant links, but those sources often do not substantiate Gemini's claims – whether accurate or not.

In some cases, an incorrect AI overview is immediately followed by a link containing correct information; in others, an accurate overview cites a source with inaccurate information; and sometimes the linked pages contain no relevant information at all. Notably, discrepancies between AI overviews and their sources increased after the February update, rising from 37 percent of searches with Gemini 2 to 56 percent with Gemini 3

Researchers also found that AI overviews are susceptible to manipulation. In one example, a BBC journalist published a blog post containing false information and later found that Google repeated those claims the following day.

Tellingly, Google and other AI companies acknowledge the technology's tenuous relationship with the truth in the fine print. Microsoft's terms of service describe its Copilot AI tool as intended for entertainment purposes, not for making important decisions. Google's AI overviews advise users to double-check responses, while xAI acknowledges that hallucinations can occur.

Syrian Security Forces Arrested Cell That Fired Missile At Israeli Jet Bombing Lebanon

Syrian security forces conducted on April 10 an operation in the town of Khan Arnabeh in the southern governorate of al-Qunitra, with later reports suggesting that a cell that attempted to shoot down an Israeli fighter jet was arrested.

Horan Free League, a local pro-government news blog, initially reported that the operation targeted “remnants of the former regime,” a term usually used to refer to the officers and soldiers who served in the ranks of the former Syrian military, intelligence and security forces.

Later, Nabd Syria, the Syrian Observers and other outlets revealed that the operation in fact targeted a cell that targeted an Israeli fighter jet with a man-portable air defense system just a few days earlier.

The fighter jet was reportedly targeted by the cell on its way back after carrying out strikes against Hezbollah in neighboring Lebanon.

Khan Arnabeh in the central countryside of al-Qunitra, right outside the buffer zone with the occupied Golan Heights, which was captured by the Israeli military right after the fall of the regime of former president Bashar al-Assad more than a year ago. The town is just 20 kilometers away from the border with Lebanon.

The Israeli military conducts operations near Khan Arnabeh on a regular basis, setting up checkpoints, and carrying out arrests.

Since the fall of the Assad regime, many resistance groups have emerged in southern Syria. While some were linked to Iran, like the Islamic Resistance Front in Syria, others were in fact supportive of the current Islamist-led government in the country, like the Movement to Deter the Occupation.

The attempts to shoot down the Israeli fighter jet came just before the United States and Iran agreed on a two-week ceasefire. The war saw both allies of the Islamic Republic and the Israeli military launching strikes against Syria more than once.

Also right before the ceasefire, there was a series of protests against Israel across Syria, including in al-Qunitra. The protests were, however, organized over the recently approved Israeli law allowing the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners, not in support of Iran. Notably, members of the country’s new military took part in the protests, and even went as far as threatening Israel.

The operation in Khan Arnabeh shows that despite failing to get an agreement with Israel, the Syrian government remains committed to preventing any threat towards the country from its territories. This situation will not likely change any time soon. However, it could eventually lead to a backlash in the south against the government, as Israel does not intend to withdraw and is in fact expanding operations little by little.
