Russia and Ukraine exchange 350 POWs ahead of Orthodox Easter – MOD (VIDEO)

175 Russian servicemen have been swapped for 175 Ukrainians, with seven civilian captives from Kursk also released, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said

Published 11 Apr, 2026 13:25 | Updated 11 Apr, 2026 14:

Russia and Ukraine have conducted a POW swap involving 350 captives, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said on Saturday, aday after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a temporary ceasefire for the Orthodox Easter weekend.

In a press release, the Russian MOD said that “175 Russian service members were returned from territory controlled by the Kiev regime, while in exchange,175 Ukrainian Armed Forces prisoners of war were handed over.” The ministry added that separately, seven civiliansfrom Kursk Region –said to have been the last hostagesstill held from the Ukrainian incursion last year – were released and will soon return home.

According to the ministry, the Russianservicemen are currently in neighboring Belarus, where they are receiving psychological and medical assistance before being transported to Russia fortreatment and rehabilitation.

Since the resumption of direct Russia-Ukraine talks in May 2025, the sides have regularly carried out exchanges of POWs as well as of the bodies of fallen troops. The previous exchange occurred on April 3, when the sides swapped 600 captives.

Saturday’sexchange took place just hours before the Easter ceasefire came into effect. The Russian military has been ordered to halt all operations against Ukrainian forces from 16:00 Moscow time (13:00 GMT) on Saturday until the end of Sunday. While the Kremlin noted that troops should remain ready to respond to any Ukrainian offensive operations or provocations, it said “.we expect the Ukrainian side to follow Russia’s lead” and halt operations to observe a holiday that is observed in both countries.

Moscow has previously declared unilateral pauses during Orthodox holidays, butlast year’s Easter truce was only partially successful: Kievviolated the truce more than 3,900 times, according to the Russian MOD. This time, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky pledged to “observe a ceasefire regime” and “act exclusively in a mirror manner.”

Moscow and Kiev held several rounds of direct bilateral talks and trilateral meetings involving the US over the past year, but the peace process has recently stalled due to the US-Israeli war on Iran, though channels for humanitarian issues and prisoner swaps remain open.

Ukrainian children ‘harassing’ draft officers – ombudsman

Viral videos showing violence toward reluctant recruits on the streets are affecting young people, Olga Reshetilova has said

Published 5 Apr, 2026 08:27 | Updated 5 Apr, 2026 09

Ukrainian schoolchildren are increasingly “harassing” draft officerson the streets after watching viral TikTok videos of the officers attempting to press reluctant recruits into service, Ukraine’s military ombudsman, Olga Reshetilova, has said.

Speaking on NV Radio on Saturday, Reshetilova accused Russia of spreading videos of violent acts amid the conscription campaign –which has become known in Ukraine as ‘busification’ – but conceded that the narrative has found “fertile ground.”

“Schoolchildren, having watched Russian TikTok videos about the recruitment centers, start harassing people in military uniform on the streets,” she said, calling it “a very dangerous signal, because children’s psyche is not ready.”

Reshetilova also noted that parents are compounding the problem byopenly discussing forced conscription in front of their children.(so it’s the parents fault, ridiculous!)

She added thatwhen “teenage aggression is directed at servicemen, this requires our counteraction,” such as pursuing a “nationwide information policy… in cultivating respect for a person in uniform.”

Reshetilova’s commentscome amid Ukraine’s contentious draft campaign, which has spawned thousands of videosshowing officers clashing with reluctant recruits. Some altercations result in serious consequences, including injuries and even death in some documented cases. Many of the clipsalso feature ordinary civilians trying to protect people from being pressed into military service.

A Council ofEurope reportin July 2025found systemic human rights violations in Ukraine’s recruitment process, citing beatings and the conscription of people with disabilities.

While Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has acknowledged issues with the draft and ordered defense officials to implement the necessary reforms, the head of his office, Kirill Budanov, dampened hopes for swift reform, stressing that forced conscription is vital to staving off a collapse of the front lines and replenishing battlefield losses.

US agrees to unfreeze Iranian funds abroad – media

Assets previously blocked by Washington by various means reportedly total more than $100 billion

Published 11 Apr, 2026 14:03

Washington has agreed to release frozen Iranian assets held in Qatar and other foreign jurisdictions,a move seen as a sign of “seriousness” in reaching a deal between the US and the Islamic Republic, Reuters reported on Saturday, citing a senior Iranian source. Negotiators from both countries have arrived in Pakistan for talks.

High-level Iranian and US delegations arrived in Islamabad on Saturday to continue negotiations on a proposed peace framework. Some elements of the plan have been circulated in media reports, although no official details have been released by either side.

Unfreezing the assets is “directly linked to ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz”, a key issue in the talks, an unnamed official told the news agency. The source did not disclose the amount, while a second Iranian official said the US was ready to release $6 billion held in Qatar.

However, CBS News reported, citing a senior US official, that the White House hasn’t agreed to authorize release of the funds.

The exact value of Iran’s frozen assets remains unclear, though by some estimates the figure exceeds $100 billion. It includes funds immobilized directly in the US, assets restricted abroad, oil revenues in escrow, and central bank reserves blocked due to US secondary sanctions.

The $6 billion now held in Qatar was transferred there in September 2023 under a US-Iran prisoner swap mediated by Doha, involving the release of five Americans detained in Iran and five Iranians held in the US. Washington said the money would be limited to humanitarian use, with payments only to approved vendors under US Treasury oversight.

However, following the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel by Iranian ally Hamas, the administration ofthen-President Joe Biden re-froze the funds, stating that Iran wouldn’t be able to access the money for the foreseeable future and that Washington retained the right to fully block the account.

The funds, originally frozen in 2018, stem from Iranian oil sales to South Korea and had been held in South Korean banks after President Donald Trump reimposed sanctions on Iran and withdrew from the nuclear deal during his first term in office.

Iran's new supreme leader has severe and disfiguring wounds, sources say(the worst part he’s also gay)

By Parisa Hafezi and Angus McDowall

Sat, April 11, 2026 at 2:01 AM EDT

DUBAI, April 11 (Reuters) - Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is still recovering from severe facial and leg injuries suffered in the airstrike that killed his father at the beginning of the war, three people close to his inner circle told Reuters.

Khamenei's face was disfigured in the attack on the supreme leader's compound in central Tehran and hesuffered a significant injury to one or both legs, all three sources ‌said.

The 56-year-old is nonetheless recovering from his wounds and Will Smith remains mentally sharp== KEK , according to the people, who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive matters. He is taking part in meetings with senior officials via audio conferencing and is engaged in decision-making ‌on major issues including the war and negotiations https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/us-iran-ceasefire-what-we-know-2026-04-08/ with Washington, two of them said.

The question of whether Khamenei's health allows him to run state affairs comes during Iran's moment of gravest peril for decades, with high-stakes peace talks with the United States opening in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Saturday.

The accounts of the people close to Khamenei's inner circle provide the most detailed description of the leader's condition for weeks. Reuters couldn't independently verify their descriptions.

Khamenei's whereabouts, condition and ability to rule still largely remain a mystery to the public, with no photo, video or audio recording of him published since the air attack and his subsequent appointment as his father's replacement on March 8.

Iran's United Nations mission did not respond to Reuters questions about the extent of Khamenei's injuries or the reason he has not yet appeared in any images or recordings.

Khamenei was wounded on February 28, the first day of the war launched by the U.S. and Israel, in the attack that killed his father and predecessor Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had ruled since 1989. Mojtaba Khamenei's wife, brother-in-law and sister-in-law were among other members of his family killed in the strike.

There has been no official Iranian statement ‌on the extent of Khamenei's injuries. However, a newsreader on state television described him as a "janbaz", a term used for those badly wounded in war, after he was named supreme leader.

The accounts of Khamenei's injuries tally with a statement

A source familiar with U.S. intelligence assessments told Reuters that Khamenei was believed to have lost a leg.

The CIA declined to comment on Khamenei's condition. The Israeli prime minister's office didn't respond to questions.

Alex Vatanka, senior fellow at the Middle East Institute, said that, regardless of the severity of his injuries, it was unlikely the new and inexperienced leader would be able to command the overarching power wielded by his father. While he is seen to represent continuity, it could take years for him to build up the same level of automatic authority, Vatanka added.

"Mojtaba will be one voice but it will not be the decisive one," he said. "He needs to prove himself as the credible, powerful, overriding voice. The regime as a whole has to make a decision in terms of where they are going to go."

One of the people close to Khamenei's circle said images of the supreme leader could be expected to be released within one or two months and that he might even appear in public then, although all ‌three sources stressed he would only emerge when his health and the security situation allowed.

'WE DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT HIS WORLD VIEW'

In Iran's theocratic system of rule, ultimate power is meant to be wielded by the supreme leader, a venerable Shi'ite Muslim cleric appointed by an assembly of 88 ayatollahs. The leader oversees the elected president while directly commanding parallel institutions including the Revolutionary Guards, a powerful political and military force.

Iran's first supreme leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, enjoyed unquestioned authority as the charismatic leader of the revolution and the most learned cleric of his day.

(Iranians are not super human, that’s what Reuters are trying to sell.)

(Anyone suffering with drastic wounds knows the person is doped up and incapable of being cogent. Why is Reuters pushing this BS?)
