Fyi.

Put a skirt tilting at angle around the pole, made of rabbit fencing and the cats won’t be able to get past up to the. batcave.

We all should have bat cave to kill all the mosquitos..

Installing bat houses is an effective, natural way to control mosquito populations, as a single bat can consume up to 1,000 mosquito-sized insects in an hour. These structures are best placed 12–20 feet high on poles or buildings in sunny locations. Because cats are major predators of bats, it is crucial to keep cats indoors, especially around sunset, when bats emerge from their houses to hunt.

Bat House Setup for Mosquito Control

Location: Place houses in sunny areas, preferably receiving 6-12 hours of direct sunlight, to keep them warm.

Height: Install 12 to 20 feet above the ground, away from trees to prevent predators like owls and raccoons.

Proximity to Water: Houses located within 1/4 mile of water sources (ponds, lakes, streams) have the highest success rates.

Structure: Multi-chamber houses (three or more) are more attractive to nursery colonies.

Avoid: Do not hang boxes near bright, all-night lights or directly above doors and windows where guano (droppings) may be undesirable.

Cats and Bat Safety

Keep Cats Indoors: Cat attacks are a leading cause of bat fatalities.

Sunset Protocol: Keep cats inside at least 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after sunset, as this is when bats are most active.

Predator Protection: If a cat has found a bat roost, they may return and endanger the entire colony; you may need to move the house.

Mosquito Management

Natural Control: A small colony of 100 bats can eat 250,000 insects nightly.

Best Time to View: Bats typically leave their houses at sunset.

No Lures Needed: Do not use fake scents or try to catch bats for the house; they will find it on their own.

Simply use this idea, but instead of a straight fence, cut your wire fencing, rabbit fencing, into a round skirt shape, install a few feet below the bat pole, cat will not continue up,pole , when cat sees the angle of the wire fencing it cannot jump or crawl past it. We have this on our entire block wall backyard, we put it up with metal wahers and block wall anchor screws, we didnt use the brackets. We cut the rolls of wire down the length of the roll, in half, so it became two smaller rolls, full length, then bent at edge about inch and a half, then just put below fence line, easy and it works. I have many cats and they all stay in yard, zero escapes. So the idea works for a bat pole. We did same for two trees in yard since cats got ideas to use the tree…we just did same idea as fence, but made skirt for the trees….it works.

here are the photos of keeping cats in yard and it works, nothing fancy. Works great and inexpensive.

Just rolls of fencing with samll holes, rabbit fencing, concrete anchor screws and washers for support. Cut the fencing length wise to create two lengths from one roll as you only need it to be a a fot and ahalf or so wide, bend or crimp to attatch to the wall, or even a wood fence. We simply laid the length of the fence on concrete, used a piece of wood, like a 1x2, to lay acrcoss the fencing, and then used a rubber mallet to quickly just hammer a bend in the wire fence, then used a drill to wuickly attach to the wall (our fence). we used wire snips to cut to fit the areas where the fence is not flat. super easy, works well for years.

so the picture with the tree is the idea to do the same on bat pole, cat will not be able to get up the pole if you put the same idea, but as a round skirt, just angle it a bit and the cat will not try to cimb as it confuses them to even try to climb.

So, if you do a bat cave you have the idea, to make the pole unaccesible to cats, by incoroating this idea, but use the tree skirt as the example.

Putting a bat cave in a tree is a bad way to do it as predatory animals can get to the bats too easily, a lone pole is better. Cats and other animals will climb the tree and kill the bats.

This rabbit fencing, bent at angle works anywhere you need cats kept in or out.

No cats other than my own are ever in my yard…cats will raom the fence and look in, but they never come into my yard as this fence confuses the ones that want to come in yard also.

works perfect.

Got the fencing at Home Depot or Lowes

we wrapped the tree truck so cats could not jump into the tree also, we used a different scrap fence. the hole size is different, it was just to keep them form even jusmping into the tree, the skirt above keeps them from leaving the yard via the tree, we just cut a few pieces and used bendable wire to connect them all into the circle shape, took a little longer to do this, but has been up for years and works great.
