According to an affidavit, Lashombe “stated she had been friends with the juvenile’s family for years, knowing his age and that he was a student.”

Prosecutors have recommended Lashombe be put on deferred probation and a $1,000 fine after Lashombe pleaded guilty to two counts of improper relationship between educator and student. Both charges are second-degree felonies and carry a potential penalty of up to 20 years in prison.

As part of her guilty plea, two counts of sexual assault against a child were dropped. The judge ordered a presentence investigation by probation officers and said he would consider it before deciding to accept the plea deal.

This publication raised an uncomfortable question in February. It went unanswered. This week, the Australian government made that silence considerably harder to maintain.

On April 7, two Australians were arrested for what they did in foreign conflicts. Same day. Same country. Same federal police force.

Ben Roberts-Smith was taken off a flight at Sydney Airport by AFP officers and charged with five counts of war crime murder over the alleged killing of unarmed Afghan civilians between 2009 and 2012. He is the most decorated soldier this country has produced.

He faces life in prison.

The charges are the product of the Brereton inquiry, a process that ran for years, deployed 54 investigators through the Office of the Special Investigator, and consumed somewhere north of two hundred million dollars of public money.

Two hundred million.

To pursue one man and the broader culture of conduct he allegedly represented.

By nightfall the same day, a 25-year-old army reservist named Vincent Tong-Vuong Tran from Felixstow in Adelaide was in the Adelaide Magistrates Court. His offence was serving as a drone operator for Ukrainian forces from May 2025 until January this year, without federal authorisation.

AFP officers had already raided his home, taken his phone and laptop, and forensically examined the devices. Images on those devices allegedly placed him in a foreign conflict.

He was charged under section 115A of the Defence Act. Twenty years is the maximum sentence. The AFP noted, with some pride, that this was the first time anyone had been charged under this provision.

Where are the IDF charges?

An estimated one thousand former and current soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces are living in Australia. Some of them were in Gaza. The International Court of Justice has found a plausible risk of genocide in that operation.

Not a suspicion. Not an allegation from a protest group.

A formal legal finding from the highest court on earth, accompanied by binding provisional measures. The International Criminal Court is separately pursuing war crimes and crimes against humanity arising from the same conflict.

Vincent Tran had his phone seized within months of returning to Australia. The AFP forensically examined it. They found what they were looking for.

Has a single returned IDF soldier had their phone examined?

Has one been called in for questioning? Has the AFP executed one search warrant? Has the Attorney General issued one referral?

Has anyone in the Albanese government commissioned a legal assessment of whether section 268 of the Criminal Code, the provision that covers genocide and war crimes and applies to Australian citizens regardless of which uniform they wore, has any relevance here?

The answer to every one of those questions is no.

In February, senior human rights lawyer Chris Sidoti stated publicly that Australians who served in Gaza could face criminal liability if genocide or war crimes are established, and that you do not need to have pulled a trigger for liability to attach.

Facilitation is enough. Knowing participation is enough.

The government did not dispute the legal analysis. It simply ignored it and moved on.

The report said Israel was awaiting US President Donald Trump’s decision to renew the conflict, at which point the military will attempt to pressure Iran into giving up its nuclear program by striking its energy infrastructure.

Channel 13 similarly reported that the IDF’s level of alert has been raised “significantly” and that Zamir instructed the military “to prepare for an immediate resumption of fighting and ordered the initiation of combat readiness procedures.”

In a clear sign that diplomatic efforts were at a dead end, the American military said on Sunday it will begin to enforce a naval blockade on Iran starting on Monday, following orders by US President Donald Trump.

UK seeks to jail Palestine Action for ‘terrorism’ amid UK media blackout

Six Palestine Action activists face a retrial after being acquitted in February following over a year in prison. If convicted, the six Palestine Action activists and 18 others will likely be sentenced as terrorists, facing long prison terms.

The jury has not been notified about the ‘terrorist’ designation, and the British media cannot report this information under a court order. Activists will also be prohibited from telling jurors how their efforts sought to impede the Gaza genocide.

The prosecution followed a meeting between government officials and counter-terror officers, where designating Palestine Action as terrorists was discussed. Those officials admitted the group’s activities were “mostly confined to criminal damage,” not terrorism.

By falsely alleging Palestine Action deliberately targeted people with violent acts, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper committed contempt of court – but a court order prohibits British media from reporting this. UK outlets are also barred from telling the public that Palestine Action’s lawyer, Rajiv Menon, faces contempt of court proceedings for reminding jurors of their rights.

Under normal circumstances, the defendants would face a maximum of four years if convicted, and serve less than half their sentences. Under the draconian terror designation — which jurors have not been notified of — the activists could spend as many as eight years in prison. Their release would have to be approved by a dedicated board for terror cases.

A retrial of six Palestine Action (PA) activists acquitted of aggravated burglary in February will begin this April 13. Having failed to secure convictions during the last round, the prosecution is colluding with a biased judge to stack the deck against the defendants before proceedings even begin. Known as the Filton Six, their names are Samuel Corner, Jordan Devlin, Charlotte Head, Leona Kamio, Fatema Zainab Rajwani, and Zoe Rogers.

From 2020 until its 2025 proscription, Palestine Action was a thorn in the side of the British wing of Israel’s global ‘defense’ matrix. The factories and headquarters of the Israeli state weapons company, Elbit Systems, were frequently targeted for destruction by the group. With Elbit incurring millions in damage as it was repeatedly forced to cease production, it appealed to the British state, which began conspiring with the weapons manufacturer to crack down on the activists.

The six Palestine Action defendants in the upcoming trial are not yet being publicly accused of terrorist crimes, and will be tried collectively for criminal damage, with one facing separate charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. But if they are found guilty, Judge Jeremy Johnson has been granted the authority to decide unilaterally whether they should be sentenced as terrorists. Having previously represented MI6 and the British police, Johnson has charged Palestine Action’s lawyer with contempt of court for successfully defending his clients.

Johnson was appointed to preside over the case after the previous justice was dropped for granting a Filton defendant bail in March 2025. Intensive restrictions imposed on the media by the British state have prevented the public from learning about the shocking dismissal of the first judge in the case.

British media has also been blocked from reporting that the new judge, Johnson, refused to dismiss the prosecution despite prejudicial statements made about the case by government officials. The most notable intervention came from Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, who made numerous statements falsely linking the group to terrorism even after she was reportedly warned by British state lawyers not to comment on the Filton trial.

Furthermore, court-imposed restrictions will prohibit what the six defendants can say about the crimes of which they are accused. Expressly forbidden from informing jurors about their motivations for crippling a core component of Israel’s international killing machine, defendants will be deprived of a major prong of their legal strategy. In past trials, activists have successfully argued their alleged offenses were necessary to prevent far more serious crimes being perpetrated by Israel.

Ukraine tried to attack Russian space base during Starlink rival launch – Roscosmos chief

Kiev orchestrated a drone raid on Plesetsk as Moscow was deploying 16 state-of-the-art satellites two weeks ago, Dmitry Bakanov has said

Ukraine attempted to strike a Russian cosmodrome the same day as a rocket carrying satellites into orbit was taking off, Russia's space agency Roscosmos has confirmed. Speaking to Russian President Vladimir Putin, agency head General Dmitry Bakanov said that an attempted drone strike on the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the northern part of the country was foiled.

Bakanov, who has led Roscosmos since February 2025, made the comments on Saturday prior to Cosmonautics Day, which marks the first human journey into outer space, undertaken by Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in 1961.

Putin praised the March 23 launch as a key milestone for Russia’s space program, while Bakanov said that Ukraine had attempted to disrupt it. Plesetsk Cosmodrome lies about 800km north of Moscow and roughly 1,300km from the Ukrainian border.

”When they say space is beyond politics, our 'friends' did everything to prevent this launch,” he said. “That day, there were serious strike attempts on the cosmodrome, but the joint combat crews of Roscosmos enterprises and the Space Forces completed the mission.”

Bakanov did not provide details on the attack. The Russian Defense Ministry did not explicitly comment on the space base assault, but reported the downing of dozens of drones across the country around that date.

The Roscosmos chief was referring to the launch of a Soyuz-2.1b rocket, a medium-lift launch vehicle used as the workhorse in the Russian space industry. The rocket was carrying 16 satellites belonging to the Rassvet constellation, developed by Russian private aerospace firm Bureau 1440 – widely described as Moscow’s answer to Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite system.

Russian officials have been suspicious of Starlink, which is not operating in the country, but is actively used by Ukrainian forces.

The Russian satellites operate as 5G base stations, interconnected via laser communication links and capable of transmitting data at speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s. Their target orbital altitude is 800 km. Bureau 1440 is planning to deploy more than 900 low-orbit relays by 2035.

Mass resignations in Victorian government, as three Ministers quit

Three Victorian Ministers have quit government ahead of November’s election, with Premier Jacinta Allan expected to announce a reshuffle imminently.

Three Victorian government Ministers have quit in one fell swoop on Monday - seven months out from the state election.

Finance Minister Danny Pearson, Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas, and Skills and TAFE Minister Gayle Tierney tendered their resignations to Premier Jacinta Allan just seven months out from the next state election.

They will resign their ministries immediately and finish out their elected terms on the backbench before voters return to the polls in November.

Ms Thomas said she wanted to spend time with her family and her 91-year-old mother, and going to St Kilda matches rather than working seven days a week.

Mr Pearson said he did not know what he wanted to do next, but said he entered parliament in 2014 knowing he would not be in politics for the remainder of his working life.

Ms Tierney has spent nearly two decades in parliament, 35 years in elected office, and said “for me it is simply time to pass the baton”.

Mr Pearson teared up speaking to media on Monday, saying he was proud to serve his electorate and of his work banning engineered stone amid overhauls to WorkSafe.

Ms Thomas became Health Minister during the pandemic. Both she and Mr Pearson were elected in 2014.

“It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve in the Allan and Andrews Labor governments,” Ms Thomas said.

Ms Thomas said she was particularly proud of reforms to women’s health that she had helped usher in, and said abortion rights would always be cemented with Labor governments.

“Women’s rights are under attack from conservative political forces around the world,” she said.

The parliamentary Labor caucus will meet on Tuesday to decide the reshuffle.

“All three have worked tirelessly, and I thank them for the service,” Premier Jacinta Allan told reporters.

“These are friends and colleagues who have served the parliament and the Victorian community for a period of time, and it is now their time to say farewell to their life of public service,” Ms Allan said.

Mr Pearson turned some colourful phrases during the emotional press conference, joking he and Ms Thomas would be the “Hilltop Hoods in the Nosebleed Section” of the parliamentary backbenches as they finished out their terms.

“We might be volunteers. I can tell you now our families are conscripts,” he said in another quip.
