An Israeli general linked to a controversy over the use of a teenager in an online influence campaign has been appointed as the next director of the Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that Maj. Gen. Roman Gofman, currently serving as his military secretary, will take over as the country’s top spy chief. Netanyahu described Gofman as a “bold and creative” commander capable of unconventional thinking.

Gofman, a career officer in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), is widely seen as a close ally of Netanyahu. However, his nomination drew criticism in Israeli media, with some questioning his qualification for the role. First proposed in December, his candidacy underwent a lengthy review by the Senior Appointments Advisory Committee following concerns about his conduct.

The committee ultimately gave its approval last week, with three junior members outvoting the chairman, former Supreme Court president Asher Gruni, who opposed the decision.

Much of the committee’s review centered on the case of Ori Elmakayes, a Jewish Israeli citizen who at the age of 17 was involved in a 2022 information warfare operation run by an IDF unit under Gofman’s command. Elmakayes was later detained for allegedly leaking classified material, but was released without charges after it emerged that the documents had been provided to him by a separate IDF unit.

Elmakayes criticized the committee’s findings, calling them “ridiculous” and arguing that a key witness was not interviewed. Writing on X, he warned that “whoever abandoned a 17-year-old boy – will abandon Mossad agents too.”

The committee concluded that Gofman was unaware of Elmakayes’ age at the time and did not know about his arrest until it became public. Gruni disputed those conclusions, expressing doubt and arguing that even if true, they pointed to failures in leadership.

The committee also noted that some documents related to the case were heavily redacted. Gruni added that his actual dissenting opinion could not be made public due to security restrictions, with only brief remarks included in the report.

Born in Belarus, Gofman immigrated to Israel with his family at 14 and rose through the ranks of the IDF’s Armored Corps. He is set to replace outgoing Mossad chief David Barnea, whose five-year term ends in late June.

Last month, the New York Times reported that Barnea had presented plans to US and Israeli leadership aimed at inciting a public uprising in Iran to coincide with the two nations’ ongoing bombing campaign, but Mossad did not ultimately succeed.

Judge Juan Carlos Peinado of Madrid’s Investigative Court issued the indictment today. Gómez will now stand trial, marking the latest chapter in a high-profile investigation that began in April 2024 and has repeatedly rocked Spanish politics.

The case centers on allegations that Gómez leveraged her position as the wife of Spain’s leader to benefit private companies and her own professional activities while co-directing master’s programs at Madrid’s Complutense University.

Investigators have examined whether she used her influence to help secure public contracts and funding — most notably through recommendation letters for businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés, whose firm won millions in government tenders.

Iran to charge ships from ‘hostile’ nations to cross Hormuz – security chief

Iran will levy tolls on ships from ‘hostile’ countries crossing the Strait of Hormuz as compensation for damage caused by sanctions and US-Israeli strikes, Ebrahim Azizi, the head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, has said.

Speaking to RT on Sunday following US-Iran talks in Islamabad that ended in an impasse, Azizi said Washington should accept Tehran’s terms because it needs a deal “more than we do,” and that many Iranians are unhappy that Tehran even entered into negotiations.

“When they need it, they should accept both the conditions and the prerequisites. If they don’t, we’ll do our work and go our own way. Nothing will change,” he added.

US President Donald Trump has refused to rule out resuming “limited” strikes against Iran after ordering a naval blockade and threatening to deny safe passage to any ships that have complied with Tehran’s fees and rules for transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Azizi, a draft bill being drawn up in the Iranian parliament would stipulate that “those who have caused us damage, those who are in fact liable to pay compensation, may only cross the Strait of Hormuz if they pay their damages and compensation.”

Referring to countries that have frozen Iranian assets “on the orders of America,” he said: “You made a great mistake by blocking them. Now you also want to cross this waterway? That era is over.”

Once approved, the law will require the government to establish a new “management and control system” for the strait and the Persian Gulf, based on environmental safety, security, and services, Azizi said. Any vessel wishing to enter would then have to pay tolls “based on the national interests of Iran,” with specific fees and procedures to be set later by the cabinet rather than by parliament.

Tehran remains deeply skeptical of Washington’s intentions, even after ceasefire-related preconditions were discussed, Azizi said. “We simply do not trust them,” he stated, questioning how a country that “elevates arrogance and colonialism to a guiding principle” could be expected to honor its agreements.

Compulsory military service could be reinstated in the EU, Andre Denk, the head of the European Defense Agency (EDA), has said, citing a lack of volunteers.

Several EU countries have reintroduced the draft since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, citing the perceived ‘Russian threat’.

President Vladimir Putin has dismissed claims that Russia harbors aggressive intentions against its Western neighbors.

In an interview with Spain’s El Pais published on Monday, Denk said, “we have a human resources problem, and one of the ways to solve it will be through mandatory military service” – adding that his home country of Germany will likely go down this path eventually.

Denk also urged EU nations to invest more in domestic arms production, with a particular focus on drones and anti-drone systems.

Last year, Finland announced plans to raise the upper age limit for rank-and-file military reservists by 15 years, from 50 to 65, starting in 2026.

The country, which shares a 1,340-km (830-mile) land border with Russia, abandoned its long-standing policy of military neutrality and joined NATO in April 2023.

Around the same time, Lithuania unveiled an expanded conscription plan that would run year-round from 2026 on. It reinstated compulsory military service in 2015 after a seven-year suspension.

In neighboring Latvia, Defense Minister Andris Spruds stated last September that his party, the Progressives, would seek mandatory military service not only for men, but also for women, starting from 2028.

Several months earlier, Denmark announced that it would begin drafting women this year.

In Germany, a new law that took effect on January 1 and introduces a voluntary model has sparked protests, with critics warning that it could open the door to reinstating conscription, which was suspended in 2011.

US Allies Loudly Reject Trump's Scheme To Blockade Hormuz: 'Not Getting Dragged In'

The United Kingdom and several other countries rejected Washington's plan to impose a blockade on Iranian ports and target ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which has gone into effect Monday.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer made clear his stance that "we are not supporting the blockade" in a fresh interview with BBC Radio. He emphasized that the UK is not "getting dragged in" to the US-Israeli war against Iran, but still stated that it's "vital that we get the strait open and fully open."

As fully expected Spain's government also condemned the US move, with the country's Defense Minister Margarita Robles having said, "It's just another episode in this downward spiral we've slipped into," adding that Trump and Netanyahu "want to impose rules on the international community, which is illogical."

Earlier we reported that France is working with the UK on a conference to organize a "strictly defensive" and "peaceful" mission to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

President Emmanuel Macron said, "As regards the Strait of Hormuz, in the coming days, together with the UK, we will organize a conference with those countries prepared to contribute alongside us to a peaceful multinational mission aimed at restoring freedom of navigation in the strait." He added, "This strictly defensive mission, separate from the warring parties to the conflict, is intended to be deployed as soon as circumstances permit."

Still, Paris has rejected a US request to join a military coalition to forcibly reopen the strait, essentially paralleling Britain's position.

At the same time Germany has not weighed in strongly one way or the other. A German government statement has said that "The US military's announcement did not mention a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, but rather a blockade of Iranian ports – that is a different approach."

Meanwhile, Turkey has strongly opposed the blockade and called for renewed diplomacy, while China too is warning against escalation and urged stability.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it would begin a blockade "of all maritime traffic entering and exiting" Iranian ports starting at 10:00am Eastern Time on Monday.

Jackson shared during the podcast, “I definitely think that it was involved. I don’t even think saying that is controversial anymore. Even if dad had underlying health issues, I think this brought it straight to the surface.”

“My first impression, as soon as I hung up the phone, I instantly blamed the government. I instantly blamed Covid and the vaccine.’

He continued, “He was forced to get them like everybody else. Dad wasn’t the only person.”

“When dad passed, he was probably the most famous Australian that people could go, ‘yep, that’s Covid,’ but I try not to think about it too much because all that does is fester into anger. That anger is not good for anybody.”

“If something comes out like this again, at least we’re more awake, at least we’re more aware. If dad had underlying health issues, maybe he was going to have a heart attack at 65, 70, but I think this just brought it all to the surface.”

Following Warne’s death, distinguished cardiologists Dr. Aseem Malhotra from the UK and Dr. Chris Neil (President, Australian Medical Professional Society) stepped forward to shed some light on the situation, asserting that his death was likely precipitated due to the Covid mRNA vaccine he had received around nine months prior to his death, Daily Sceptic reported.

Upon examining the post-mortem report of Warne, Dr. Malhotra and Dr. Neil discovered that the cricket legend suffered from coronary atherosclerosis, a form of heart disease. This finding paved the way for the doctors’ further investigation, which revealed a concerning link between the Covid mRNA vaccine and the rapid progression of coronary disease.

The evidence for common and serious adverse cardiac effects from these jabs is overwhelming and I have no doubt that a major contributor to the excess deaths we are seeing around the world including in Australia is because of the Covid mRNA vaccines.

There needs to be an immediate suspension of their use worldwide pending an investigation to stop further people being harmed and dying unnecessarily.

The US is losing the information war against Iran, as social media platforms allow the “raw, unfiltered truth” about the conflict to instantly reach millions, undermining Washington’s narrative, an Iranian-American Lego cartoonist has told RT.

Mahdi Hemmat, whose Lego rap videos have gone viral during the US‑Israeli war on Iran, said that Washington’s “old ‘believe what we say’ approach no longer works,” because “reality is streaming live, and whether anyone likes it or not, the president can’t control it anymore.”

Hemmat is one of several artists that have been creating Lego‑style videos following the outbreak of the US‑Israeli war on Iran. The clips, generated with the help of AI and part of Iran’s information warfare campaign, have garnered millions of views on social media, depicting various incidents and details of the war, often set to rap music. Some have described the phenomenon as “defensive memetic warfare” and “internet diplomacy.”

Hemmat’s animations have covered several incidents, including the Minab school strike, which killed at least 175 people, mostly children, the Iranian strikes on US bases in the Gulf, as well as the $100 million dollar operation to rescue an American F-15 pilot. He said his videos are based on “verifiable events anyone can deep dive into” and learn the truth.

“Iran’s strategy is brilliant,” Hemmat said, describing the country’s overall approach to countering US-Israeli aggression. He explained that Tehran uses the same asymmetric principle online as on the battlefield, noting that “low cost, high impact content forces billion‑dollar media empires to play defense. Iran controls the terms of engagement online, just like it does on the ground.”

OpenAI Boss Sam Altman’s San Francisco Home Targeted in Second Attack in 3 Days

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s San Francisco residence was struck by a second apparent attack early Sunday morning, just two days after a man allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at the property, according to San Francisco police.

The San Francisco Standard reports that the San Francisco Police Department announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with the Sunday incident. Amanda Tom, 25, and Muhamad Tarik Hussein, 23, were booked on charges of negligent discharge. The arrests came after a Honda sedan with two occupants stopped in front of Altman’s home at approximately 1:40 a.m.

The property, which spans from Chestnut Street to Lombard Street, was first passed by the vehicle a few minutes before it returned and stopped, according to an initial police report. Surveillance footage and the compound’s security personnel indicated that the passenger extended their hand out the window and appeared to fire a gun towards the residence. Security staff also reported hearing a gunshot.

The vehicle fled the scene, but a camera captured its license plate, which enabled police to later seize the car. Officers responded and detained Tom and Hussein without incident. A subsequent search of their residence uncovered three firearms, police said.

Neither OpenAI nor the SFPD provided additional comment when reached by The Standard.

The Sunday incident followed an earlier attack on Friday morning, when 20-year-old Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama of Texas allegedly targeted the property from the north on Chestnut Street. At approximately 3:40 a.m., Moreno-Gama reportedly threw a molotov cocktail at the metal gate of the Chestnut Street entrance, according to a police report. Security guards extinguished the fire, and the act was recorded on surveillance cameras.

Shortly after the Molotov cocktail incident, security personnel at OpenAI’s headquarters in Mission Bay encountered an individual matching the suspect’s description. The person made threatening statements about the building and was taken into custody by police, the company stated.

Moreno-Gama was booked into San Francisco County Jail Friday afternoon on suspicion of attempted murder, arson, possession or manufacture of an incendiary device, and additional charges. No injuries were reported in either the Friday or Sunday incidents.

The San Francisco Police Department continues to investigate both incidents. This story remains developing as authorities work to determine whether the two attacks are connected and what motivated the suspects.

US & Israel Bomb 307+ Medical Facilities In Iran Carrying On Long Tradition Of Targeting Medical Workers

The United States and Israel have a long sordid history of attacking hospitals.

The United States and Israel are systematically targeting hospitals in Iran. In one month of bombing, the two countries have hit at least 307 health centers across the country, according to reports from the Iranian Red Crescent. The carefully planned destruction of the Islamic Republic’s medical infrastructure fits into a long history of deliberate U.S. attacks on hospitals. Since the end of World War Two, Washington has targeted medical centers in at least 16 countries, and the 307 Iranian sites hit does not even come close to the record for the number of hospitals in any country destroyed by American bombs and missiles.

Iranian Destruction

There was no warning. U.S. and Israeli airstrikes hit Gandhi Hotel Hospital in northern Tehran on March 1, and again on March 2. Locals were fasting for Ramadan as missiles tore into the building, shattering glass and wrecking its neo-natal unit and ICU. Completed in 2009 and described as “beacon” of Iranian medicine and one of the most advanced medical centers in West Asia, the 17-storey building was among the country’s most important hospitals. Images of the aftermath show a once proud building in ruins, with floor after floor devastated. Gandhi Hotel Hospital is one of more than 300 medical centers that have been hit by U.S. and Israeli strikes. Nine days afterward, on March 11, the Persian Gulf Martyrs Educational and Medical Center in Bushehr on Iran’s southern coast was targeted and severely damaged.

Missile explosions destroyed much of the hospital’s medical equipment. Even as the glass was still falling, authorities made the decision to rush patients to the nearby Nuclear Scientists Martyrs Hospital, despite the fear of a double-tap strike, like the ones often seen in Israeli attacks on Palestine. On March 21, the Imam Ali Hospital in Andimeshk, Khuzestan Province, was targeted. Video footage from the aftermath of the attack shows wards, waiting rooms, and corridors completely devastated, with both walls and roofs collapsing under the strain of U.S./Israeli bombardment.

The Imam Ali is Andimeshk’s only hospital, and patients were forced to be bussed to healthcare facilities in other cities, according to Hossein Kermanpour, head of public relations for the Iranian Ministry of Health. I wish [Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu] understood that this is a crime against humanity,” he said.

Other medical infrastructure, including a first responders’ center, an Iranian Red Crescent office, and the Pasteur Institute, a medical research laboratory, have also been hit. “What message does attacking hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and the Pasteur Institute as a medical research center in Iran convey?” asked Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian; “As a specialist physician, I urge WHO, the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders and physicians worldwide to respond to this crime against humanity.”

The attacks have been largely ignored by Western media. Few newspapers or TV news reports have even mentioned the damage to the country’s healthcare system, let alone centered it as a major news story.

The U.S.’ Long History of Bombing Hospitals

Last year, U.S. forces carried out 14 separate airstrikes on the Al Rasool Al-Azam Oncology Hospital in Saada, Yemen, the centerpiece of the country’s healthcare network. Israeli settlers have increasingly tried to smuggle animals to sacrifice at the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in recent days, around the Jewish holiday of Passover, triggering widespread fears of an attempt to take over one of the holiest sites in Islam.

According to the Palestinian Authority’s Jerusalem governorate, there were at least seven attempts to smuggle animals on Sunday. Israeli authorities have closed the compound for 40 days, including during Ramadan and Eid, using the war on Iran as justification.

Various reports said that settlers were caught in the Old City, leading to Al Aqsa, with goats and sheep.

Despite Israeli authorities reopening the holy site to Muslims early on Thursday morning, there have been repeated Israeli incursions.

Ismail Patel, the UK-based author chair of Friends of al-Aqsa, told The New Arab that the animal sacrifice attempts are not just a religious provocation, but a political one.

"It signals that they are no longer petitioning for access, they are asserting ownership…the sacrifice does not merely accompany their ambition to demolish al-Aqsa and establish a Third Temple - it enacts ambition. It is worship as conquest, and that is why it must be named for what it is - terrorism".

‘Third Temple’

The bid to smuggle and sacrifice animals at Al-Aqsa is based on the belief of Jewish extremists that al-Aqsa must be destroyed to be replaced by a "Third Temple".

The "Third Temple", according to some interpretations of Judaism, must replace al-Aqsa after the site is purified through a series of rituals.

The sacrifices violate a long-standing status quo that forbids Jewish worship at Al-Aqsa, which is the third most holy site in Islam.

Palestinians have long warned that there have been concerted efforts to ‘Judaise’ al-Aqsa, with far-right Israeli extremist figures frequently storming the site, which is the first direction Muslims around the world prayed towards before the Kaa’ba in Makkah.

The Jerusalem governorate added that "Third Temple" organisations had exploited the unprecedented closure of al-Aqsa in order to attempt to carry out sacrifices.

The governorate called for international support to put a stop to the ritual attempts and ensure the protection of the holy site and its Islamic identity and status.

Exploiting wartime

According to Patel, the joint US-Israel war on Iran, coupled with the Israeli wars on Lebanon and Gaza, have been major factors contributing to the gradual attempts to by Jewish extremists to take over al-Aqsa, as the diverted attention has allowed settlers to exploit the closure of the site.
